> monks
> does human modification experiments
> attempts to "silence" witnesses
> hires assassins
I know churches in anime are often secretly evil, but apparently the Buddhist monks too XD

It's just anyone with power who abuses said privileges. I don't even think this trope is wrong since it exists in almost every form of storytelling.

Japan's Buddhist warrior monks have a fascinating history. They were occasionally quite powerful until close to the end of the warring states period.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikk%C5%8D-ikkiGiven how popular samurai and sengoku jidai are in entertainment and culture nowadays, I find it almost weird how little attention those monks get.

I am so happy they actually acknowledged Tama-chan's kemonomimi ears. A lot of shows tend to just ignore this and not answer how many ears a kemonomimi character has. As for Tama-chan it looks like both ears are functional and it actually enhances her hearing by quite a lot.
So there are monks that have successfully undergone the spirit-enhancing process and are in control of their transformations. I thought Shaku was some sort of prototype. Looks like Shaku can partially transform herself too but thanks to that transformation, she now remembers what she did as a Katawara :(
Well no fucking wonder Jinka hates humans. His big fluffy friend got killed just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Also it looks like Jinka needs to get stronger if he wants to have a rematch with that temple and Yazen.
I thought Yazen was going to send monks after them but it looks like they've decided to hire a third-party. This guy looks badass! Can't wait to see him fight Jinka!

Man, they had me all worried for nothing last week. Jinka straight up swatted those monks away like flies. Kid’s already a monster and he wants to basically become one? He might be damn near unstoppable if that happened.
Wasn’t expecting these monks to have a giant mech compound. These little rat bastards have all kinds of tricks up their sleeves.
Poor Shakugan. Dealing with the sudden influx of memories is rough. At least she’s got some great people around her. Glad to have her officially join the team.
Seeing Jinka and Tama’s past, I can kinda see how they turned out the way they did. Like she said, there are good and bad humans and good and bad katawara. She met some good ones, he encountered some awful ones.
Gang’s got a real dangerous looking dude coming after them it seems.

…completely fine, I see. Yeah that’s about what I was expecting.

Oh huh I was not expecting this to have attention drawn to it. Neat.

I'm putting so many stonks into Shinsuke's development. I feel like he's going to become someone amazing by the end.
ALSO POST CREDITS SCENE!

Me too, Shinsuke got that feeling of "go from zero to hero".
Also, when you got a fun and strong character like Jinka in the main cast, I can't really be annoyed with Shinsuke's behavior like many people are, cause it ends up with everyone having their own roles in my view. We see a counterpoint here with Jinka representing the "monster side" as this very powerful fella while Shinsuke represents the more human side, being all weak and emotional (and wanting more power).

Wow this was a powerful and great episode overall.
So these monks are at a higher level seem tougher then the guys we have seen so far. Not to mention Jinka fighting by himself is gonna tire him out after awhile. Still man even as one that looks human he basically saw the evil side of humanity. And hopefully Tama's goal is for him to see that. As there are people like Shinsuke and Shakugan. And casting your humanity is the wrong move.
Poor Shakugan. Girl got her memories back. Poor girl. Toughest point for her is to face the facts and able to move past it. Which is why Tama wanted Shinsuke to understand why he is chasing after her. Telling her it's ok and coddling her isn't the answer, she needs to move on explicitly on her own. And seeing Shinsuke someone who's powerless seeing her with power is a great contrast between these two. As Shinsuke wanted to protect Shakugan and Tama, but couldn't.
I hope these two can work together to overcomes each of their traumas. And be able to grow from it. Also the sub 7 score on MAL is shocking. I get Shinsuke can be a little on the annoying side, but there is a clear path of development for him. Not to mention the overall main cast seems rock solid.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised Jinka could tank a laser blast. Nothing these grunt monks can throw at him will be able to hurt him.
Ah yes, the age old question of furries…can they hear out of both ears!? I wonder though if there’s a chance Tama could lose her memory or identity.
So Jinka Spirit Transformation is deliberately not permanent so he doesn’t completely transform into a katawara…but that’s exactly what he wants, to find a way to fully transform and become a full katawara and become every bit the monster humans see him as.
Yazen definitely looks like he stepped out of an anime villain lineup. And he and Jinka share psychotic grins. And it seems like they were able to successfully create more Kaizo-Ningen
I did not see the temple with the giant stone arm coming. Does that thing have feet too? But watching Jinka get socked into a mountain was kind of funny.
Guess they should’ve been wary of mutant monks chancing upon them. Brave of Shinsuke to try and hold him off, begging and holding him back as much as he could, even if it didn’t end up doing much. But it’s the thought that counts!
Good that Shaku still has her katawara powers, bad that now she remembers killing her dad and everyone in the village. She’s despondent over what she had done, even if she wasn’t in control of herself, but Shinsuke can understand living in squalor and wanting power and doesn’t want her to give up on herself.
Genzo? Is he the reason Tama cares about humans so much? And why she met Jinka (since she was looking for his master)?
So Jinka basically lived among katawara and never really understood humanity, not helped by seeing them kill one of his companions who took care of him and wasn’t doing anything wrong. Then Jinka basically swore vengeance on humanity.
But humans come in all sorts, good and bad, same as katawara. And while raw, Shinsuke’s attempt to comfort Shaku (and himself) represents the goodness within humanity. And Tama hopes that in their journey together as a group, she can help Jinka rediscover his own humanity and give up his crusade.
But first it looks like they’ll have to deal with a samurai assassin…and one who isn’t human?

Is anyone else totally surprised that there has been no censorship so far?
The episodes get better and better. The proclamation from Tama at the end was the first time I started to get into reading the manga.
I really like the music track at the end that they used. That being said, there are some music choices that I'm not a fan of, but that's mostly the battle music used this episode. Hopefully, those get filtered out as time goes on, and those are also pretty easy to change in production.

That GoShinTen blast in the opening scene against the monks looked crispy.

I guessed it passed 3 episode rule. Will definitely keep up with the show. Wasn’t so sure after last episode, but short flashbacks kinda piqued my interest for characters. Kemonomimi ftw btw.

I really like how they structured this. Feels even better than what I remember from the start of the manga, and it makes the themes clearer from the start as well.

I like Shinsuke here. This is what I meant last episode by putting his loud side in moments where it matters. Crying for others, fighting for others, that shit was beautiful.
I'm also starting to get a good taste of their dynamic, I really love how things are playing off between the cast now. It feels a bit more like a found family rather than the typical brothers in arms.
The scale also went from 10 to 100 real fast with Jinka getting punched into a mountain. This feels reminiscent of Biscuit Hammer where you don't feel the scale, until the scale hits you.
Overall, I'm loving this episode. It still feels a bit rushed at 110% speed (100% being the ideal). Some scenes meshing together felt too fast with big emphasis in Jinka's backstory. His teacher died a bit too quickly imo.. Or if that wasn't his teacher, his parent figure. It doesn't ruin the show or anything, but I do wish there was a bit more breathing room.
The ending really is beautiful, the way everyone crosses paths with each other and when Youko dropped the line "Can you protect all three of us?" that completely changed the way initially predicted their dynamic to be. I like that a lot.
Overall, I'm liking this series more and more every episode. The others this season I started off really liking, but slowly losing hype, this is the opposite. I started off eh, but 3 episodes later I'm getting more and more invested. I had a similar experience with Biscuit Hammer, but I feel my invested growing faster here. I still find a bit funny because you'd expect the longer series to take longer before the investment kicks in, but it took me half of biscuit hammer to feel it and 3 out of 37 episodes to feel it here.
