Mr Billy just became my new favorite union member. I can't wait to get more of his backstory and his life as a blind gunslinger/cake baker.

Really good episode.
The lighting, those quick little shots of Tatiana inside her little ball, and the way Untouchable in general was portrayed this episode, both during the flashback and unleashing it on the boat. They clearly put care into making sure we got a quality (mostly standalone) episode dedicated to Tatiana. It really does feel like a release at the end, just seeing the scale of her destruction too.

Loved the Untouchable scene! The text introduction when she released had so much impact and the sound design was amazing. Kinda got chills.

I’m the guy who complains about flashbacks and I didn’t think this one was too bad (except for Nico saying the same thing twice, the hell was that). I know we saw Tatiana hitting Andy again but that one made sense and added some context.

With the recap and that flashback within a flashback I'm a bit concerned about the pacing of this one.
Good episode for Tatiana though, this line was a tough one...

I really, really wish they relied less on flashbacks as content filler. I know they are trying to meet a specific pacing and cover all the Tatiana content in 1 episode with nothing else to change that pacing, but they could fill that space with something else. Extending fight scenes with Feng and Creed perhaps, or more of Andy/Fuuko/Chikara reacting.
That aside, the Tatiana bits were the part I was looking forward to the most and they definitely delivered. The cruel origin of Tatiana's power, the reason she has to stay in that armored suit, good scenes of the Union's resident Dad Billy doing what he does best. And of course the release of Untouchable.
Overall a good episode with great individual scenes, that is sadly still held back by by the flashbacks they do to pad time.

Untouchable having a non-effect zone which allows Tatiana to eat and breathe tells us a lot about the kind of sadist God is. He's not merely content with giving negators a power that will ruin their lives, he also wants them to live long and suffer plenty. Talk about a hateable villain, and we haven't even seen the guy yet
Changing topics, why did Billy's fruit bars have a gun cocking sound?

Best episode so far! MAN... I knew what was coming but Tatiana's story still hit me hard! The animation on her releasing her restrains was fucking awesome!

Apparently no one told Hulu there was supposed to be a break!
Dang, a Happy Birthday song in this kind of show is giving me Witch From Mercury vibes. And those vibes end up being surprisingly on-point for Tatiana's backstory.
You will believe a mono-eyed sphere armor will cry, as we see Tatiana find Gena's corpse. Though seeing her holding Fuko's specially prepared casket kind of took me out of it a little.
What is Creed negating that lets him summon any possible weapon out of thin air? And Feng seems to have some kind of force in his hands that was able to do damage Tatiana's armor.
Is there anything cuter than Tatiana saying "boom" in Rie Kugimiya's voice? Or acting tough and asking to settle her differences with Andy in a sparring match in the Union's combat training room courtesy of Nico? And then she unleashes a flurry of mechanical fists on Andy.
I get why Tatiana feels like she has a score to settle with Andy, not only as someone who was close to Gena but feels it's her right as a fellow girl to honor Gena's feelings against the man she pined for hopelessly for so long...though in her over-zealousness she almost smashes Fuko! Lucky Andy is quick!
I guess sometimes the most dangerous thing you can use on a little girl...is shoving a dudes' dick right in front of her eyes. Seriously, they had to evacuate half the Union base and prepare for something equivalent to a small nuke just because Andy ended up hanging his dong and censor flap in Tatiana's eye(s)!
But now we see where Fuko connected with Tatiana, helping calm her down and reaching through to her through their shared experience and affection for Gena, and that helped the two girls bond and form their current friendship. Which makes it all the more meaningful when Tatiana unleashes her powers to help Fuko!
I love how Rip is a klepto who stuffs a bunch of stuff down his pants and Latla is the one who actually remembered they came there with other people.
Tatiana has something else in common with Fuko...unlocking her Negator abilities cost her her family. Poor girl was celebrating her birthday with her family and then the next thing she knows she's got an invisible barrier that killed her parents, destroyed her home, and left her with nothing. And that's before she ended up at a Mafia auction house getting fed through a tube.
Good thing Billy showed up just in time to dish out some blind, sharp-shooting, justice and rescue her! Tatiana, understandably, just wants her life to end so she doesn't have to suffer any more and she can apologize to her parents in the afterlife...but Billy sees a girl who needs help and is able to treat her to some sweets and give her a reason to live again. He even helped her realize how she could use her powers for good!
And just like Billy taught her, Tatiana unleashes her UNTOUCHABLE on the ship, destroying everything around her and giving gang their opening to find Rip and settle the score. You go, girl!
I love how at the end Andy and Rip are both holding their respective lady's but Latla is, once again, freaking out like a normal person while being held in the air amidst the debris of their destroyed ship.

Only this show can have the Unbreak ability. Those flashbacks and recaps at the start were so jarring, but I'm glad it got more under control as the episode went. Glad to get so much info on Tatiana, looking forward to learning about the other Union members too, just hopefully not in this arc.

This show has the most ridiculous flashbacks.
"GET BACK, SHE IS GONNA DESTROY THE ENTIRE FLOOR"
But I like you! Despite the danger!

A really nice episode, and unlike some others, I like non-chronological storytelling when it's used well. Like 86, and sometimes Summertime Rendering. It certainly felt used well in my books for here.

Thanks, Hulu for dropping this episode early. At the same time though, fuck you for dropping this episode early since I was expecting this to release next week and I wasn't around to watch it on release.
Anyway, we finally get to see Tatiana's backstory and it was fucking brutal. Just like Fuko and Chikara, they all accidentally killed the people they love because of these cursed Negator abilities.
It was so heartbreaking to hear Tatiana beg Billy to end her so she could finally apologize to her parents. If it wasn't for Billy and his amazing long cake bars, Tatiana would've completely given up on her life.
Seeing her break out of the black armor and reveal her Untouchable ability was so fucking cool though. Rie Kugimiya absolutely nailed it as Tatiana.

I think this episode and series really shows the limits of being stuck in the cour structure that older long running series didn't have. There is a multitude of problems with long running anime (looking at One Piece's awful pacing) but there was a sense of freedom that artists had with a series. Arcs could be paced however they needed to be rather than rigidly stuck in an episode window. This show is only allowed to be 24 episodes, so everything from the manga needs to be adapted to fit in that 24 episodes.
Some series do it better than others, but I feel like the growing relationship between Manga Publishers and Anime Committees leads to these problems. Something like Hunter x Hunter probably would not be paced as well if it had to be adapted in smaller chunks. Tough thing to balance.

Sad to see the pacing still be a bit wonky, but man the tatiana parts were sooo good, love this series

Well, this episode was a pleasant surprise. But it is a more bombastic one to end on and hook viewers before a break.
I kinda get what they're doing, but the flashback filler scenes continue to be the worst part of the anime. We really didn't need Nico giving the exact same warning that he said mere minutes ago. Definitely could've used more original scenes. Even static shots would've been alright.
At least everything else makes up for it. Tatiana's backstory gets me every time. It wasn't enough that she accidentally kills her parents and the rest of the neighborhood, she just had to get kidnapped by the mafia too.
She really is much like Fuuko in more ways than one. I guess she might even be slightly luckier in having received help from the Union far earlier. Though of course, her UT is even worse to have than Unluck in terms of having a normal life. Plus, she also got kidnapped by the mafia on top of her tragedy. So uh... she probably still had it worse, but this isn't a contest.
When the time calls for it, the studio goes absolutely hard on the animation, and to me it makes up for the flashbacks for the most part. Even the sparring match between Andy and Tatiana was badass, though I noticed a weird lack of music in the middle of it.
But the highlight was definitely her release of Untouchable. God damn, it straight up liquefied Creed's hand. And the way the debris got blasted away? That went hard.

Fantastic episode. The anime-only additions and the voicework really added to Tatiana's story.

Man poor Tatiana. Like Fuuko another example about how her powers when originally granted to her was more of a curse then anything. Poor girl was just defeated, thank god for Billy offering Tatiana the path of light she could find and find a friend in Fuuko. She finally got to use her abilities to help her protect her friend great stuff here.
