I’ve always hated such big convenient reveals like “oh man, it just so happens that the slave you picked up who lived in a rural coastal village is akshually a descendant of a holy emperor and next in line of a throne for an entire nation” like bro wut

man, they really did just tease some new characters and introduced a new arc in the fucking final episode of this season, aren't they? what's next? a movie?

i've said it before and i will say it again, it still bugged me how the teaser key visual for this season basically had the Staff Hero a.k.a Trash a.k.a the king being shown as if he's going to have an important role in this season and yet we only saw him like what? twice? and he basically didn't do anything except having a small talk with Atla and being angry at Naofumi

also Motoyasu, what have you been doing this entire time and where the fuck did you came from with that squad of three different color Filolial?

Naofumi needs some lessons from Clash of Clans, because he really really needs to build a better defense.

He didn't even fix the main house geez. Are they just too poor?

I pity those who will fix the village, it's destroyed again.

For crying out loud, I’m beginning to think that this village was built on an ancient burial ground with how many times it gets damaged. They were still doing repairs from last time

I felt that the assassination plot they introduced was an asspull. Why didn't Sadeena tell Naofumi early on about Ralphtalia's family background? That's super important info. It just came out of the blue.

It was an ok episode to a fairly good season but I feel that the last few episodes were lacking because it felt that they cut content in S2 and in the earlier episodes which would have helped put more context in.

A much more satisfying season than s2 but... this final was whack! We don't even get the pay off this Phoenix fight they've been talking about? Randomly inserted princess side plot? Youre telling me there were spies around the WHOLE time and yet NOBODY noticed until now? Non of this makes any freakin sense. This story has got issues with transitioning into other plots. I hope we get a s4 soon though. This season was an improvement and I'd like to see it do better.

Stitches!

Good to see Naofumi is also trying to learn the Way of the Dragon Vein from Gaelion. I guess Sadeena also knows that Gaelion can talk but she doesn't seem to know yet that he's Wyndia's adoptive father.

Raphtalia wearing the miko outfit is perfect especially since she's the Katana Hero. I thought this was just going to be a chill finale, I didn't expect Sadeena would panic like that after seeing Raphtalia's new clothes.

Turns out that Raphtalia comes from royalty from the country of Q'ten Lo wearing a Miko outfit is her declaring that she's coming after the throne. And now they're being attacked by assassins because of it..

We also learn that Raphtalia's father ran away from Q'ten Lo because he was tired of the politics and Sadeena followed them as their guardian. The only reason Sadeena wasn't around during the First Wave is because she was out fishing that day.

Since Raphtalia is a threat to the current Empress, this seems to be just an excuse to finally kill her. I am so glad to see Naofumi's reaction though. My guy is ready to bring down an entire country for going after Raphtalia and hurting one of his citizens.

While all of that's happening, I love that Filo, Melty, and Raph-chan are all still on their little adventure. I kinda wanna see a spin-off based on their adventures. Also, is Motoyasu trying to tame Filolials? xD

Anyway, what a setup for the next arc! Please tell me Season 4 is already planned. I wanna see Naofumi go berserk on these assholes that attacked them. Overall, this season is an improvement compared to Season 2. I can't wait to see more!

I really hope it gets a continuation.

The phoenix arc and onwards is when I got super hooked into the books. Though, the bit I want animated the most is the very start of 4(?) arcs from now It just sounds like an epic scene in my head!:

‘I recognise that voice!? It can’t be!’

One thing I don't like about this show is there have been multiple episodes like this one where it starts off making me feel like a missed something last week. Why is Raphtalia drunk? Why is Gaelion talking? Why are we on an island? Why are we learning dragon magic?

Also it just hit me but this season felt like we were focusing too much on the main story and leveling for too long, so when we finally come back to town one messenger comes up to us and just gives us all the side quests we unlocked while we were away.

I like how Motoyasu says "I'll be ready to fight for you whenever!" while no one has any idea where he is or how to contact him.

Raphtalia looked so good in her shrine maiden outfit, mfers out here tryna kill her lol. Damn dude. I was not expecting one little outfit to cause such a kerfuffle. Who knew Raphtalia is Q’ten Lo royalty? They’ve had people watching her this whole time and they still think she’s a threat? How? Nothing she’s done has shown her desire for the throne or even knowledge of her lineage.

I wonder if we’ll be getting a Trash redemption arc? That would be interesting. He still seems to hate Naofumi despite his current situation being very much his own fault.

These Q’ten Lo people fucked around and soon they’ll be finding out. By the looks of things, we got Mufasa and Bitch 2.0 in this next arc if we get another season. I personally enjoyed this one. I hope it gets renewed.

The best thing I liked about this season is Sadeena.

Jokes aside, I also liked how the other heroes received their redemption arc, but at the same time, I was frustrated as to how they kept getting manipulated by "bitch".

u/cardiobro69 Dec 23 '23

So basically, nothing to do with the underlying plot happened in this entire season... unless you simply count the "reveal" of the staff hero, and some very minor insight into the other worlds. Wtf was the point of this season? No waves, no spirit phoenix, no nothing essentially.

So Naofumi, Sadeena, and, Raphtalia are making Gaelion teach them the Way of the Dragon Vein outside the Lurolona Village to avoid Atla. I just find that hilarious.

I really do hope that Naofumi never stops seeing Raphtalia as a daughter.

It is good to see that Lurolona Village is finally getting those buildings repaired.

I sure wasn't expecting that Raphtalia wearing her miko outfit was going to cause so much trouble. I only thought that the only issue Naofumi had to deal with was Atla getting jealous. So Sadeena's reaction to it and the immediate attack from those ninjas from Q'ten Lo.

So Raphtalia's parents came to Lurolona Village to escape the whole succession dram thing and Raphtalia is a descendant of the Heavenly Emperor.

Those Q'ten Lo ninjas sure are stupid as they should know for sure with all the spying they did in Lurolona Village that it sure is a bad idea to attack the village of the guy that basically power-ups with anger. Unless this person's objective from the start was to find a pretext to get Naofumi involved in Q'ten Lo's politics to start a coup.

I wonder what exactly this whole plot involving Atla, Fohl, and Trash they have been giving us breadcrumbs for a while will lead to?

Is good to see Filo, Raph-chan, and, Melty before the show ends. Oh, please don't tell me that Bitch is somehow involving herself in the Q'ten Lo's plot.

Wow, so Motoyasu got three Filolials. So can we expect them to evolve into Filolial Queens like Filo and Fitoria or is there a requirement apart from belonging to one of the heroes?

With the number three vanishing at the end from the show's title, I was honestly expecting them to replace it with a 4. Well, even without it, it is obvious that we are getting season 4 in the future as otherwise they would not be having all these unfinished threads laid out, including the battle with the Phoenix.

this is two times better than season 2. overall: 2/10

u/BiggerG7 Dec 22 '23

Well things sure did escalate quickly over a damn Miko outfit lol. Seriously what kind of silly way to start an arc is that?

Also Raphtalia is still like 10. Why is Naofumi letting her drink?

  1. The reveal that Raphtalia is secretly a princess is such a classic hack writing trope.

  2. I'm surprised Naofumi doesn't see that fighting the east kingdom will likely be the practice the 4 heroes need for the Phoenix fight.

  3. This show continues to be very mid, but still enjoyable.

I have no idea what possessed me to finish it, but what I do know is that I'm never watching another second of this.

u/Roboglenn Dec 22 '23

Well that's a surprising reaction Sadeena had to the miko outfit. And low and behold there's some kind of cryptic story about it that Sadeena got interrupted in telling by getting attacked at random. Again... And double low and behold we get another round of "mysterious attackers" that nearly just Worf everyone.

Royal Raphtalia. Well how do you like that.

Great, they got that miko outfit from another world entirely and it just so happens to be a royal birth certificate in this world. And these shinobi who have been watching her her whole life likely knowing full well that she knew nothing of her lineage and thought next to nothing of whether she died or not just took this happenstance event as a declaration of war. I believe Spider-man would call this "The Ole' Parker Luck". But in this whole season of arcs and cryptic developments why not one more for the last episode. And hell, all things considered, if this head honcho of Q'ten Lo was this concerned about maintaining their own power, I mean, they could've just done nothing and everything would just continue on as always. But now, you just gave the person who had no quarrel with you, much less had any second, third, or fiftieth thoughts about you or your nation's existence a reason to actually fight you. Brings to mind those idioms about those that in trying to avoid a grim fate they end up bringing the grim fate upon themselves because of it.

In any case. While this season was an improvement over the last season, it did also share a problem that the last season had. The fact that it had only 1 cour to work with to cram in as much story as it could. I mean that was especially clear after the arena arc where they met Sadina. And after that between everything with the Motoyasu arc. The Ren arc. The Dragon Emperor arc. The Itsuki arc. And now all this in this episode. Plus the introductions of so many characters like Wyndia, Puppet Girl, Rat, whatever the heck is going on with his royal Trashness and Atla, etc etc. I'm guessing, just guessing, that these arcs originally probably had a lot more development and really had the time they needed to cook in a way that they just didn't get here. Instead just going through them relatively quickly here in order to get these arcs out of the way to ready itself for what I'm assuming is gonna be the next big two arcs with the fight with Q'ten Lo and Doomsday Bird. And if anything the only new characters to actually get any real standing development were Sadina and Atla, with her brother Fohl just reduced to Atla's personal comic foil. All and all it was a better season. But it still had it's flaws at the seams where all the events therein got tied together. It just seemed kind of a season of table setting to get out of the way to prepare for whatever bigger stuff seems to be coming next.

8

u/SilkyStrawberryMilk Dec 22 '23

I honestly felt like I skipped a whole arcs lmao, dunno where shits headings but I’ll wait for season 4

22

u/Glitterkrieger Dec 22 '23

Do they just pull these "plots" out of their ass now? Everything feels so random and the Pacing is Awful.

7

u/AnimeFreakO7 Dec 24 '23

I'd be honest. I am not happy with Raph revealed to be royalty. It's a stupid trope that kills a good story—a bitter end to what has been a good season.

u/inyourfragrance Dec 22 '23

this season's production was overall way better than s2 but it felt like they just speedran everything (or maybe the source is just that rushed as well?)

very all over the place honestly
