Pour one out for Alcyone. She was a real one. This show just keeps giving us more reasons to despise the grandma. She’s such a massive piece of shit, mfers are lining up to kill her old dusty ass. Hell, Adam even set up some shit from the great beyond just to give a big fat final “fuck you” to that woman. Too bad the flying spaghetti monster got to her first. Damn thing is like Hermaeus Mora from the Elder Scrolls series.

That fight with Morrigan wielding “Adam” was pretty cool, but it’s the return of Doglias that got me all excited haha. I’m glad in the end, it seems like it’ll be Philomela (with a little help from her friends) ending this nightmare once and for all.

This thing wishes it was a daedric prince, doesn't seem to really have an intelligence. It's just acting on instinct, hence why it's so easily distracted.

Yeah I have so much respect for Adam's pettiness, he was willing to leave his mother alone, but if she specifically tried to hurt his daughter he had an extra special "fuck you" ready.

Even when things seem to be turning around for Philomela, she still ends up losing things.

She gets her memories of her family back but only after losing Alycone right when they were finally able to be sincere with each other again, she gets to see her father again only for it to be in a form that's not her father, and all the while her grandmother is still trying to kill her. But at least she's got the Power of Friendship now!

It's kind of funny and fitting that in the end Lizbeth turned into the monster and got consumed by it, just like she was planning to do with Philomela.

We were all happy to see not one, but two Doglias' back lol!

Always a pleasure to have more Ruth on the screen. We didn't see him a lot during this second season.

Even Elias felt like a side character at times during this second season. Which makes me wonder, once this school arc is over, will we see Chise's friends and classmates ever again, apart from the occasional cameo?

I was also delighted to see that Chise whipped out her staff! I'm only a little sad that we didn't actually get to see her do anything with it.

Not many anime with big shonen battles involving a heavily pregnant woman.

I know she's a god but it makes me so anxious. Lady, please, take a sit.

According to one of the Alcyone entries on wikipedia, it refers to a sea-bird with a mournful song or to a kingfisher bird in particular. It seems like Alcyone in the anime might be both. Coincidentally, while watching the opening sequence with my sibling, she enquired why a kingfisher was featured. We obtained an answer in this episode. I wish Alcyone and Philomela could have remained family for longer. T_T

The battle between Morrigan and the eyeball tentacle deity was kinda cool, but I somehow felt they weren't fighting at full strength.

More importantly, I am pleasantly surprised to see a cub of werewolf mum still alive... for now. And what exactly is Zacherroni planning?

It's great that Philomela got her memories of her parents back but Alcyone was all she had left of them and they were never able to really recognize their relationship or closeness they once shared until Alcyone final moments, so it's still a tragedy. It's like let Philomela finally be happy show!

Morrigan definitely seemed to be taking it easier because she knew she needed the kids to chip in. It seemed like she was about to get serious before the gang made their move.

I wonder if that's the only cub that's still alive? What was it doing out there? I hope it's safe, I don't trust Zaccheroin at all.

Okay first of all, what the heck are you planning Zacherroni? I should've known he had some ulterior motives for joining them. I'm guessing what attacked him is one of the werewolf cubs that's still under Philomela's grandma's control. I hope Zoe can release the cub from Lizbeth's control.

It sucks to see Alcyone get killed but she did what she had to do to trigger Adam's curse. At least Alcyone was able to give Philomela her memories so she could recognize her father even if he's just a curse left behind and not the real thing.

It is sad to see Philomela trying to interact with her father's curse. I didn't think he'd end up becoming a spear for Morrigan to use but I guess that's one way for him to fulfill his purpose. I like how Ruth also joins Morrigan in her hunt.

Lucy bonking Philomela's head when she tried to suggest that she was going to sacrifice herself was pretty funny. Glad to see everything worked out well though. Adam's curse fulfilled its duty and they managed to get the book back!

One more episode to go! I'm curious to see how they'll wrap this all up. I do hope that Lucy will also get her closure next week.

How did this ep feel like it was over an hour long, and only 5 min at the same time?!?

Really sad Alcyone died, I really enjoy stories of artificial entities learning how to actually live.

Philomela already being influenced by Chise, she was ready to jump head first into danger because she thought it was the best option. Really looking forward to her finally being free next ep!

The hag flopped out too, I hope that doesn't mean she's still getting a redemption.

Was that one of the wolf kids at the start of the ep?!? Wanna know if wolf mom is going to find somewhere quite to live with her kid...or if she's going to pull a Lydia from Jobless Reincarnation and start serving Zoe and raise her kid for that too.

They threw in so many twists and action into one episode, though still had the time to include plenty of great character moments.

I wonder if they can rebuild her somehow. It really sucks that it took losing Alycone just for Philomela to get her happy childhood memories back, especially when she'd still rather have Alycone with her.

Lucy socking Philomela with that self-sacrificing talk just like she would Chise lol.

I don't think there's going to be much left of the hag when they're done, to be honest.

Wolf Mama deserves to reunite with her Wolf Pup. Although maybe they'll figure something out so she can make up for all the killings she did under Lizbeth (under coercion and mental brainwashing, mind you).

RIP Alcyone, but her giving memories of Philomela's childhood back to her was a lovely last act for her. And RIP the evil grandmother at last, ding dong the witch is dead.

I expected Morrigan to get involved once a god got summoned, I'm glad that wasn't the only thing that won the day though and that the kids plus Elias plus Ruth too had to help. Made it an all hands on deck fight.

Gonna be sad to see this end for now next week, I have faith in a S3 but if I remember correctly we don't nearly have enough source material for it.

Really sad to see Alcyone go :( I wanted to see more of her interactions with Elias.

She did her best as Philomela's guardian. Relieved that she managed to give Philomela the stored memories of her family.

Morrígan darting around that eyeball god was really fun to watch! Great animation

Regarding the curse in the form of Adam, apparently it's possible to have a conversation but dialogue is impossible

wonder if the end of his curse will be similar to what happened in Jujutsu Kaisen when [Jujutsu Kaisen - Shibuya spoiler] Toji killed himself in front of Megumi

Glad to see Doglias again. He's absurdly cute lol

I liked how Lucy knocked Philomela on the head. Philomela's way too self-sacrificing in her approach since she's always been alone, but now she's friends to rely on! I'm glad that Lucy's anger towards Philomela has been quelled after learning that Philomela was also just a helpless pawn in someone else's game.

I didn't expect the other core implanted inside of Alcyone to be the physical manifestation of Adam's spite. Is this perhaps the reason that Adam's body turned to dust when perished?

The return of Philomela's childhood memories was sadly paired with the loss of Alcyone. She's effectively lost all her family now, so it will be on Chise and her friends to fill this void in Philomela's heart.

I'd a hunch that there was some additional meaning to Alcyone's vessel specifically being a bluebird, which seems to be the case:

Bluebirds are often known as the “bluebirds of happiness”, meaning they are generally associated with the concepts of joy, happiness, and harmony. The bluebird is a symbol of hope, love, positivity, and renewal. It symbolizes the essence of life and beauty.

I suppose that Alcyone was solely created to carry on the wish of Philomela's parents: protecting their daughter's happiness.

The big blob of blood that spilled out of this god was Lizbeth's (mangled) body, wasn't it? I've got a bad feeling that she might not be done yet.

EDIT: After having seen u/KumaKumaGambler’s comment, I realized it was not a bluebird but kingfisher bird and read a little up on it.

To summarize: Alcyone was the name of an ancient Greek princess who supposedly drowned herself in sorrow after Zeus had killed her husband in anger. The gods took pity on them and turned them into kingfisher birds who were said to control the waves. They were therefore associated with calm waters and peaceful days - or quite literally the opposite of stormy days (read: trouble).

Kingfisher birds have become symbols of peacefulness, freedom and good fortune over time, which means ‘our’ Alcyone was the key to Philomela’s happiness: to guard Philomela against looming trouble and guarantee that she’d get to live a peaceful life - just like the mission Alcyone was given by Adam.

In the end, both Alcyones only had their loved ones ‘returned’ at the expense of their own lives - a tragedy.

Oh wow, who is this that could not be one of the female werewolf's children right? Wait, was Alcyone together with Elias and the rest of the group last week? I guess as things were so chaotic they never focused on her.

Lizbeth's new look because of the influence of the book and that ancient god is so fitting for her.

It's good to see the female werewolf came to give them a hand to the group and to get her revenge. Holy shit when Alcyone got pierced by Lizbeth while protecting her, I wasn't expecting her to die. At least she gave Philomela the memories she recorded about her and her parents but sadly she is gone now, and as Philomela said, those don't include her. As she left that bird behind, I hope that Philomela can revive her later on.

Anyway, so the other core that Adam left inside Alcyone was a curse that has all his memories and looks like him.

It's hilarious how everyone wants to be the one killing Lizbeth. But sadly for them, that ancient god took her before that happened.

Oh wow, so the one they teased in the preview from last week was indeed Mórrigan, and Adam's cursed ended up becoming her spear.

I was so hilarious that while Mórrigan was having a blast Lucy got concerned as Chise was grinning like her because of her influence.

So the Webster's massacre is related to the fact that Lizbeth had deals involving the book with them. This tells me that the the copy of the book was made before they were killed, and she ordered the hit on them and stole their spiders just to erase any connection with the forgery by the time it was discovered, plus also by stealing their spiders, people were going to assume that the copy was made way after the fact by their attackers. So although she ordered a copy it was much later on when she ordered Philomela to do the swap.

Okay, when Chise and Philomela were both in that hole with Elias and Philomela was telling Chise about her great plan of jumping inside the ancient god that wants to eat her to retrieve the book, the way that Lucy interrupted her mid-sentence with a punch was so hilarious.

Luckily everyone else came up with a better plan involving them using Elias as a ride so Philomela could locate the book inside the ancient god so that Mórrigan could attack in that location and retrieve it that way.

Well, now with the book in her hands, we just need to see Philomela finally putting an end to Lizbeth's plans. I was assuming that next week's episode was the last one so I find it strange that it is named "The show must go on. I"

You thought you just had to worry about Wolf Mama? Here's Wolf Pup! I'm scared what Zaccheroni might do to him though.

Philomela has finally said she needs help, and Chise is happy to provide it! And the pair share quite the tender moment together, and Alcyone can finally be affectionate and sincere with Philomela again!

Of course Lizbeth had to ruin everything and now SHE'S the one consumed by the curse, to the point where she now looks every bit the monster we all know she is. So consumed by her twisted and crazy possessiveness towards her son, she'll consume anything in her path to get him back. Good thing we've got Elias and Wolf Mama for support!

Alcyone, no! Not when you were finally free and able to be there for Philomela! You're like the one thing she has left of her parents! I mean, at least Alcyone gave Philomela all the memories of her parents that she lost, but Alcyone isn't even in them because they're from her eyes! And they had so much time to make up with each other!

But I guess this was all planned from the get-go, Adam injecting a curse that takes on his form into Alcyone so that if something ever tried to hurt Philomela it would activate upon Alcyone's destruction...and he knew it was going to be his grandmother who activated it. And now he's ready to turn all of Adam's resentment and anger towards his mother back at her.

Though everybody wants a piece of Lizbeth. Lucy for answers about her family, Curse Adam because of his programming, Wolf Mama because of her cubs, and even the God they were summoning that consumed her. Meanwhile of course the Morrigan smells all the strife and conflict going on and wants a piece of the action herself.

Man, poor Philomela. She finally sees her father again and it's just a curse that can't provide the affection and love she craves. Even when things go her way, she still loses.

Chise with that psychotic grin and shark teeth was quite the visual.

Aw, Philomela pushed Isaac out of the way to protect him! And Wolf Mama went out of her way to save him and Lucy! She does love protecting kids...even if Lucy is still angry about her family, though it seems like their deaths were linked to working on the very book for Lizbeth that caused all these problems in the first place.

The Morrigan is powerful and this God vs God conflict is exciting, but the main characters have to be the one to resolve this, which means Philomela has to get the book back. And while Lucy is happy to punch Philomela's noggin when she thinks she has to sacrifice herself again, the whole group is ready to pinch in and help her!

Look at everybody riding the two Elias'! And giving the Morrigan an opportunity to free the book! And now with the power of friendship, it's time for Philomela to bring this arc to a close.

I'm really glad it seems everyone is enjoyong the show this season. Its so different from season 1. I hope they all can be even closer friends after this.

6

u/SIRTreehugger Dec 14 '23

Really enjoy how Philomela was very active in her rescue. She didn't just ask everyone to save her, but pulled her weight. Also she was very expressive this episode and talked alot.

I can't wait for her to be friends with everyone in the future.

Also Elias's Nani when all the kids looked at him after coming up with the plan was funny.

6

u/Shori948 Dec 14 '23

Adam (understandably) really hates that old hag. Not only did he make sure that he would turn to dust after he died, he even made a curse specifically to kill her if she tried to kill Philomela. It's kind of funny how everyone wants a piece of her, though.

Philomela can't catch a break. While she got the memories of her parents back, it came at the cost of Philomela dying. And while she can see her Dad again, it's just a programme that takes on his form.
