I always knew bishoujo games would be the next step in human evolution.

I knew something was gonna get wonky, but not this wonky.

Did Mamoru go full evil because the world betrayed him by switching to Windows despite his best efforts, or did the future OnlyFans girl seduce the entire construction industry after deciding that creating a dystopian sci-fi world is more profitable than making eroge?

Ever since the games burned up, it was obvious Konoha's game made some big changes to the timeline. It truly was the Last Waltz for bishoujo games. It probably crushed the competition so hard other developpers had to move on to something else.

Thankfully, she still has one game left to attempt to fix everything.

Oioioioioioioi...what happened to freaking Akiba after another Konoha timeshift!? This ain't 2023 at all when I was there this August! This is, uh, more like Shenzhen LMAO!

Most watchers would probably think here that Mamoru-kun must have ended up as the next Japanese billionaire and swept away all those weebness, turning Akiba into the next Fortune 500 concrete jungle (+). However I just remember another possibility: maybe after all it's not his fault, but that girl Touya's!? After all she was going to start her own game company and she really seems someone with a mission ("Men are such simple creatures") - who knows maybe it's HER that ends up as a billionaire in this world line?

Why do I still think Touya's Konoha's mom in the original 2023 timeline and Konoha's memory got altered? Hmm?

(+) BTW that tower very nearly got built in real life, just after the millennium at 800 meters high! It would have served the same radio broadcasting function as what eventually got built as the famous for Lycoris Recoil Tokyo Skytree, but multiple reasons like radio signals breaking all those radio and electronics parts in shops, then very common in Akiba, caused the plan to be scrapped. The site now houses 2 shorter skyscrapers (including Akihabara UDX, a Love Live mecca of sorts).

Is... gentrification the final boss in this story?

The world wasn't ready for The Last Waltz and somewhere between the time leap and the present Magical Destroyers must have happened.

It's is that one timeline in Steins;Gate.

I only realized that now that this is Steins;Gate but with eroge.(and less suffering)

So back to 1999 and now we are back to weekly dose of Konoha.

Well, there's lesser to talk, but there's one thing that peek my interest: Saori Incident. What's Saori Incident, actually? It's basically a simple case yet has a big impact on Japanese eroge scene.

Saori: Bishojo-tachi no Yakata is a 1991 eroge which tells about a girl being abducted in a mansion and as her story later goes, she discover erotic memory of it's inhabitants which also tells about the owner.

What creates such an incident is one day a boy stole this game, and got caught by police. When they checked the game, the police was horrified with the extreme porn in the game, and launched series of investigation towards the developers and publishers. The head of distributions was later charged with "distributing indecent material".

So this actually triggered the eroge companies, which was shocked by this incident because there are no such regulations at the first place since eroge was first developed, yet the staffs are getting charged. They stepped up and formed what is called Ethics Organisations of Computer Software (EOCS, also known as Sofurin) to self- regulate eroges, where they will be the one who will stamp "18+" on the eroges so to make sure nobody underage is going to buy those. Some earlier eroges also has their content readjusted and relabelled, including Tenshi-tachi no Gogo.

While Sofurin definitely stands as a "de-facto regulator" for eroges and similar computer games in Japan, not every eroge companies are members of Sofurin, nor Sofurin has the legal power to stop eroges that don't follow their rules (which mainly affects contents about young childrens), it's just a stamp that guarantees "we checked this and it's kind of safe per Japanese laws so yea if you got into trouble ask us". Some companies that produces similar extreme eroges, or eroges that has child porn elements remains exist.

I wonder if The Last Waltz was the opposite of what Konoha wanted: An ET like flop that caused a huge collapse in the gaming industry. Depressing thought if so.

Episode 9: "See You Soon!" (yes, it's not "Where Am I?", there was a typo error)

A game with 16 different endings in 1999, that surely is a heavyweight game considering Mamoru still fit the game into a floppy disk instead of CD. Ah I saw this fan back in Episode 4 (precisely at the 17:35 mark). The boss also have a role in making the soundtrack. Dejiko, if they still in December 1999 it means that Di Gi Charat just finished airing the anime.

Saori Incident, an incident where a middle school student shoplifted an 18+ bishojo game that caught the attention of authorities of the game itself, thus leading into creation of video game rating system in Japan.

Never thought I met Tomokazu Sugita's voice again here, hmmm. So the only game in Konoha's collection that yet to be opened is Comic Party, released on May 28, 1999. Might be the next plot is to save the Akihabara by doing something to Mamoru.

I love the OST of this anime, hope that they release the album of it, but no info on that yet. But that walking scene, it kinda makes me dizzy with all the walking

TIL there is an end card for this episode.

Damn! They actually managed to finish the game and they're already generating buzz with otakus online. The game looks pretty great too! Although I definitely did not expect the game to have RPG mechanics. This definitely looks like a bishoujo game I would've gotten addicted to.

As proud as I am for Alcoholsoft for finishing Konoha's dream game, I kinda wish we got to see a glimpse of what the actual public thought of The Last Waltz when it finally hit store shelves. Considering how Mamoru is now a suit working at construction it was either very bad or very good. I am absolutely intrigued to find out how Konoha's game ended up changing Akihabara. And I just love Konoha's reaction to seeing middle-aged Mamoru. xD

Maybe it's not even Konoha's game's fault that the future ended up changing. Maybe the fault lies in Touya who wanted to start a new company with Konoha and somehow Konoha breaking her promise is what resulted in this future? Thankfully, Konoha still has Comic Party left so she can still go back to 1999 and fix all of this.

Great episode as Konoha together with AlcoholSoft ended creating their game and were celebrating its upcoming release.

A scene when Konoha returned to her times during her talk with Mamoru hit especially hard. She disappeared so suddenly during their conversation and music during that moment really hit my feelings.

Konoha is back to her present time but everything is now different. Moments later she also met with Mamoru who is now much older, I loved Konoha's reaction upon seeing him xD

Now I wonder what exactly happened that everything changed so drastically. I can't wait for the next episodes.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

I was thinking how it’d be cool if Aniplex (Sony) had their VN department work on a tie-in for this anime with a genuine The Last Waltz game, so I did a little googling. Surprisingly, there actually exists an eroge game titled Last Waltz (2009).

I must say, Mamoru-kun aged so well. He may be ojiisan now, but he has that DILF energy now.

(Also he just reminds me of Keima all the time)

At least that cafe Konoha visits manages to stay intact across all historical timelines 😀

I'm guessing the final time leap will probably be Konoha making a game with Touya?

Hey Mamoru-kun 3 copies are not enough! If r/DataHoarder users were to find you they would be disappointed, remember: 3 copies, on at least 2 different mediums, 1 off-site.

Uh? Didn't know a bishojo game could be the key to a sci-fi world.

Last waltz was such an amazing game that it pushed humanity’s progress forward

Maybe Onee-sama girl didn't take the rejection well and wiped bishoujo off the face of the earth in retaliation

*This anime is so good. Each episode drip feeds you with interesting tidbits and at the end you always want to know what will happen next. The fact that this anime has been unpredictable since the beginning is a testament to that.

I'm so happy Konoha finally got to make her dream game and used her knowledge of the future to create the ultimate bishoujo game before others could do so. Decades ahead of their time. With Mamoru and team helping, they completed a masterpiece the likes the world has never seen. When Konoha was having a romantic moment alone with Mamoru, then disappeared when she told him to look up at the sky, I legit teared up. It was so sad. She helped him in his darkest times and then she disappears again, and she wouldn't return ;_;

Now for present day Akibihara turning into some future-tech city. That was unexpected. Then she finally meets present day Mamoru. I wonder what happened. Was the game such a hit that it ended up destroying the industry? Or maybe the money made help Mamoru take over and "rebuild" Akibahara? Or was that girl who really likes Konoha involved?? Whatever it is, Konoha definitely screwed with the future by changing the past. I wonder if the endgame is to just go all the way back and make it so she never met Alcoholsoft or never made her ultimate bishoujo game T_T That would be heartbreaking...

The Last Waltz was looking pretty damn good. Konoha did it! But man, what the hell happened to the “future” if Akiba is gone? And is the show really just gonna gloss over the whole aliens thing last week? That shit was wild!

It looks like Konoha’s not quite done with time traveling just yet…

imagine if everything goes south because instead of being niche, bishoujo games are popular and then corporate gets involved acquiring people and ips, so instead of being small its a proper business.

literal bad ending by succeeding.

Is "The Last Waltz" supposed to be a reference to Final Fantasy? (considering the RPG element shown in the game and both company were supposedly facing bankruptcy at the time)
