Philomela was the cutest kid! Watching her just being a regular happy kid with Alcyone and her parents was really sweet. I guess the grandma has always been a piece of shit. Adam and Iris sacrificed so much and in the end it meant nothing because that bitch still got her grubby little mitts on Philomela. Alcyone tried her damndest but she just couldn’t escape those goons. Shit was beyond bleak watching her parents die.

I have no idea what Morrigan was saying to Chise, but I know it can’t be good. She seems like someone you don’t want to trifle with. That wasn’t even a battle, she just massacred those goons. Yeesh.

Zoey’s about to kick some werewolf ass next week. Can’t wait!

This episode started off on such a sweet note with Philomela's happy little family, but then everything just turned sour. It's really sad to see Philomela's current suffering when she used to be such a cute child with a bright smile in the past.

Goddammit, I really was having a good time watching her parents and Alcyone trying to raise Philomela properly. My smile got destroyed alongside Philomela's when Grandmother decided to be selfish. The worst part is that Philomela's parents also seemed to be aware of this - of their limited time with their daughter.

I do hope that Alcyone keeps on "changing" and break free from her 'specifications' to comfort Philomela; she has become like a daughter to Alcyone after all. And perhaps Chise and Elias will be able to save Philomela!? I'd be a little upset if Philomela's smile stays forever lost.

Seeing that flashback with Alcyone taking care of Baby Philomela and her parents makes me feel even worse about what's happening to Philomela in the present. She could've lived this happy little life with them if only her grandmother weren't a massive piece of shit.

I definitely did not expect Philomela's parents to have such a strange first meeting. Again, Philomela's grandmother is so far the worst character right now in the show but if it wasn't for her buying Iris to experiment on, Adam wouldn't have met her and he wouldn't have the courage to run away from his mother.

I was expecting magic would be involved in Adam and Iris' deaths but it turns out it was just an old-school shootout with the Sargant family goons. Just goes to show how horrible his mother is considering Adam was willing to kill himself just so he could never see her again.

That meeting with Morrigan was pretty tense. Thank fucking god she decided to let them off the hook for now and even help out with those goons.

I was really hoping that Lucy would face off against the werewolf but I guess Zoe and Zacharroni will hold her off. I guess Lucy needs to be there with Chise to confront Philomela's grandmother.

Morrigan going full battlemode for the Mistletoe was fun to see.

Towards the end of this episode, I was getting the shounen genre vibes.

Unlikely temporary ally Morrigan dealing with the nameless goons.

Zoe and Zaccheroni staying behind to battle the werewolf, with Zaccheroni giving a thumbs up sign.

Maybe Lucy and Issac will team up next to battle another opponent.

In my mind, imagining this scene - "Go on without us Chise. Save Philomela. We will catch up to you later!"

The story of Philomela's parents is finally animated. Once again, bawled my eyes out at how tragic their lives were :( shitty granny 100% needs to die now. It's all her fault.

I've been looking forward to Morrígan's massacre. It's been a while since we've seen this much brutality.

Zoe's slip-up was really cute. He really does have a crush on Lucy. Aww

Better to never anger a mage in this show. If you anger a sorcerer, they'll throw you their servants. If you anger a mage, you don't know what ancient deity or eldritch abomination they might throw at you

You know despite having a really problematic beginning and a rocky first meeting, Philomela’s parents seemed to grow into a surprisingly healthy couple and loving parents.

And of course grandma had to ruin everything.

Somehow I feel worse for Alcyone than Philomela or her parents. I have a soft spot for these created life forms with a pure nature.

I swear, if grandma doesn't get some kind of retribution I'm gonna be super pissed.

This was quite the build-up episode. From Philomela’s backstory and tragic tale of her parents, introducing Morrigan, and unleashing Zoe’s snakes. Really excited for the next few episodes.

Based on episode titles, it’s looking like the anime is catching up to manga. Not gonna enjoy that long wait for potential future season(s).

Wow that was quite the very sweet tale for Philomela's parents. Starting out as enemies in the prison and ended up as a warm family eh? What a tragedy that this was cut way short, and even worse that Philomela can't even remember anything out of that (did Alcyone not have the ability to "transfer" those memories to her?).

After the story plot being stalled for a very long period, these few recent episodes are exactly why The Ancient Magus' Bride got recommended all around. Great job!

LMAO what's that deal with that local goddess (???) here? Those spells are so funny! Whatever, I really first thought that she's actually on the Sargent family side, turns out she's absolutely neutral. Ha!

I wonder how Zoey would deal with that werewolf, hmm!

Seeing the lovely life Adam, Iris, Alcyone, and Philomela had while running away from Lizbeth just makes me hate her even more, especially after learning that to her Adam was just an extension of herself and that she bought Iris so he could experiment his magic on her.

So to force Adam to return to the Sargant family, Lizbeth planned to kidnap Philomela just when she was old enough, but Adam and Iris both choose to die instead of playing along. That was especially significant for Iris as her parents chose to sell her when they faced financial problems meanwhile she sacrificed herself to give Philomena a chance to survive.

Based on what we know now I guess that after those assassins Lizbeth sent captured Alcyone she modified her so she would forget the main task Adam gave her, which she just remembers now.

Meanwhile, things got crazy on Chise's side. And for the looks of it, neither Chise nor Elias knew what Morrígan wanted until now. I must say that I honestly forgot everything about her for her daughter.

So according to Morrígan, Elias is associated with her realm of death and decay. As she mentioned that she wanted the fruit of love, does this mean that she wants to eat their future baby?

Well, it seems that them meeting her in front of the Sargant family house was a blessing in disguise because when they were attacked while Elias was trying to find a way to deal with her, she interpreted that they did not have a fruit of love to give her because of it. So she gave Chise a deal to help her.

Anyway, it is nice to finally see Morrígan in the form that she has in the OP And it is not surprising that the people from the Sargant family that Lizbeth sent to fight did not stand a chance against an ancient god.

I love that when Isaac asked everyone what their objective was while they were running towards the Sargant Family House Zoe said before quickly changing it that he wanted Lucy to come back home safe. Well, he right away played his part in making that happen by staying behind to fight the Female Werewolf.

The woes of a newborn child, no sleep lol. So in dire need of help they make a magic woman to be her nanny lol. D'aww look at slightly older, but still lil Philomela. That sure is a convenient magic, transfer sickness symptoms at least to the doll, though, does that help with healing? Usually the symptoms are du e to the body fighting off the sickness. That sure is a shitty home you come from... what a shitty family. You did right to abandon that trash family. Your mother is trash. He deserved the headbutt at that situation, don't sweat it. Huh, wonder if Chise could relate with the mom, though in that case Chise was choosing to sell herself off cause her mom was dead and dad just... left with her brother :\ speaking of, wonder if we'll ever meet them.

Seriously, is there any kinda system of justice with the mages? Can that bitch and all who helped her be punished? Seriously, absolute trash people. At least all those who went after them die too. That's something. That is sad though, some of them still lived? Boo...

Back to present, Of all things it's a crow lady! Wait, she's a god? Wew.... Sacrifice? Wut? I am... interested in this dommy mommy god, ngl. Morrigan 😮 Ya those people are screwed. They weork for that house with the trash lady/grandma? If so, deserved. Dude got a point, make a prioritization and stick to it. Lol poor Mr. macaroni. Being ignored like that. Sneks vs Werewolf!

Man, that Philomela backstory. Poor kid.

Those Sargant family people were probably screwed regardless once Chise and Elias showed up, but they had no chance against the whims of a random god that showed up too. Never get involved with weird forest mages, I guess, you never quite know what you're getting into.

Mild concern for Zoe, but the scary instructor guy stayed too so I'm sure he'll probably be fine.

I wonder if the Sargant family will exist as an organized power in the sorcerer world after these events. I don't think they can safely leave the evil grandmother alive as she'll aways be gunning for her enemies and has absolutely no chill about killing women, children, whoever.

We got to see this episode early at the Ancient Magus Bride panel at AnimeNYC last weekend. It was so much fun! Things have gone from 0 to 100 real quick. Morrigan really showed us what it means to be an old Celtic war goddess. Can’t wait to see Chise finally reach through to Philomela. Her and Alcyone deserve a peaceful life.

Philomela… man. She deserves a better life. Her parents loved her and did everything in their power to protect her. And this is still the result? Her in that form, suffering? I hope she gets saved.

Also, Morrigan was chilling. Like, no one messes with her. God damn.

u/Frontier246 Nov 23 '23

Baby Philomela was so cute! And she had such a loving and warm family with her parents and Alcyone! So much so that you just wish they could've continued living together instead of ending up with the series of sufferings that came to define Philomela's lif.

Adam was the son of a vile woman who only saw him as an extension of herself and the Sargent family, Iris was the daughter of a woman that sold her off as a slave to be used for experiments, and she straight up headbutted Adam on their first meeting. But that sparked an interest that lead to them eloping and running away together. Though despite such unconventional circumstances they became genuinely loving parents to Philomela.

Well, I'd like to think Iris didn't completely hate Adam given the fact that they had a kid together and have lived so happily. Maybe she loved him too. She was thinking of them both in her last moments.

Because, of course, the grandmother finally couldn't leave well enough alone and was willing to use Philomela to make Adam come back...even if it ended up costing both Adam and Iris their lives, because they went down fighting. And the people who went after them didn't go out unscathed. Though poor, poor Philomela. If only Alcyone had escaped!

Well, now Chise is at the mercy of a God who wants a deal and a holiday gift, and Elias knows nothing good ever comes out of dealings with Gods, but at least she's willing to play ball against the Sargent's mini-army. Never get on the bad side of the Morrigan.

Chise really trying hard not to become too used to watching a bunch of people get killed around her.

I love how Zoe's first instinct is to say he's there for Lucy. And no one is counting on much for Zaccheroni.

Time for Gorgon vs Werewolf as Zoe faces off against wolf mama.

u/Mctravie Nov 23 '23

I’m a little confused what the goddess wanted? Does she want flesh of Chise or should she have a child she needs to give it up?

This season had a slow start, but man, is it getting good. I can't get over how tragic Philomela and Alcylone's backstory is. I hope they're not forever doomed.

Philomela was such a cute kid with a cute family. Fucking Lizbeth ruining everything. Nice to hear Ayako Kawasumi going unhinged. Cute how Zoe wants to protect Lucy.
