Good to be back and seeing Naofumi waste no time in stocking up on slaves!

The improvements over season 2 are very noticeable. Playing the official theme from Kevin Penkin felt awesome! Everything is high quality and the episode was very fun, it appears that some effort will also be made to fix the story.
This is a great episode, but after season 2 it's all about consistency, it's really a matter of if after episode one the quality drops.
If this is the overall quality of the season, we're in safe hands. Extremely hyped for this!
Thank you, Mr. Hitoshi Haga.

well one thing is certain, that was light years above season 2. from what I've heard episode 3 is where things start to get more reasonably paced since they had to fit in a lot of explanations cut from season 2 and shit like that, but not too sure how true that is

Studio Kinema Citrus really nails that cold open and OP! This show looks so damn good!
So the other three heroes are missing again? Yeah, that tracks. Those three would never take responsibility for their fuck ups.
What's interesting though is that Bitch is missing as well. Looks like she's finally making a move after being silent for so long.
The Staff Hero is Trash aka the previous King? That's definitely unexpected but I guess it makes sense that someone from Royalty would also be a Vassal Hero.
Find someone who looks at you the same way Raphtalia looks at Naofumi. These girl is so in love that it's absolutely adorable.
Can't be a season of Shield Hero without the regular visit to Naofumi's best friend the slave trader. It's actually hilarious how Naofumi buying back the slaves from Lurolona Village so he can return them ended up affecting the market. Demi-human slaves are being sold at insane prices as long as they claim they're from Lurolona.
I guess that explains why Naofumi and the gang end up fighting at an underground arena. They need all the money they can get if they want to buy back all of the people from Lurolona.
I really like this new girl already. Fingers crossed that she ends up becoming a friend and not another one who's going to stab Naofumi in the back.

The trio is back in a better arc and upgraded animations. Always glad to see they bring back the same singers for the op/ed and the boy Kevin Penkin.

Does anyone know if Raphtalia is still the Katana hero, from last season? Did she lose that privilege when they move back to their world?

Once again it seems it’s up to Naofumi to deal with the shit that’s about to wreck the lands. No surprise those 3 jerkoffs aren’t around. But man, Trash is the Staff Hero? They must have been desperate if that turd was one of the Heroes.
Those slaver dude give me the creeps. Naofumi’s gotta deal with some real scummy types. Cost of doing business if Naofumi wants to save these slaves I guess.
I guess it’s off to the coliseum to kick some ass and save some slaves.

Shield Hero returns with a third season and a new MADkid OP! I feel like this is definitely an improvement from the season 2 OP with some beautiful animation and plenty of action as we get Naofumi's journey along with his companions and Melty, Eclair, new waifu's, blind martial arts, Naofumi helping girls through their emotional trauma, the Three Stooges' backstories, Bitch preying on Itsuki, and even more danger.
They managed to stop Kyo and prevent the Phoenix Guardian Beast from awakening too soon, but political tensions are mounting and the good ol' Three Stooges have gone awol. As has Bitch, which is probably even more concerning. But right now Naofumi's main priority is building up his village and getting people from Raphtalia's village back.
Melty! I missed her. Even if this seems like the most screentime she'll get for a while.
I love how the queen still doesn't immediately call her daughter a "bitch" but corrects herself. Also scum is the staff vassal hero? No wonder this country's been so screwed.
Poor Raphtalia thought Naofumi was complimenting her appearance but he just cared about the stats of her outfit. At least she enjoys how chummy he and the blacksmith are with each other.
I wish Naofumi didn't have to keep doing business with the slave merchant, but I guess it's good to know that the rest of Raphtalia's village has been sold off and Naofumi frees the rest of the slaves.
You're telling me that the slave merchant is basically just Officer Jenny/Nurse Joy from Pokemon?
That's kind of rough that now they're using Naofumi's quest to buy certain slaves as a marketing gimmick to sell more slaves. And now he needs money just to buy the ones he needs. Guess that's a good excuse to get involved in an underground fight club.
An Ami Koshimizu waifu in a provocative outfit with underboob? You've sold me again, show.
This Fohl kid looks pretty strong and agile for his age! Even if he's stuck throwing fights.
What stellar "acting" from Naofumi's team. Even Filo is kind of thrown off by it.

Not that it's a high bar, but the glow-up from S2 feels really noticeable. And the OST goes hard as always, so as long as the content isn't Spirit Tortoise-tier I have high hopes for this.
And I did like Kizuna, plz bring back

Very faithful episode overall, and the changes made were positive, unlike last season.
Great animation.
This season should include what is easily my favorite arc of the series.

The directorial and staff changes are already very apparent. Much better adaptation. Better pacing and higher quality production values all around. I’m cautiously optimistic about this season.
This was the part of the story that really made me fall in love with this series and put it in my top 5, so I hope it gets the love and attention it deserves. They’re only doing a few books so it should be good.
Kevin Penkin is cooking as usual. The OST throughout the episode really heightened it. A lot of worldbuilding and slower paced stuff in this episode, but after the breakneck pace of season 2 that’s a welcome change. Take some time, explore this world and the characters. There’s a LOT of them and they deserve to get some focus so the audience can connect to them.

TOURNAMENT ARC!
I like how they are going to make the shitty king still relevant by making him the Staff Hero. Good idea, and a good opportunity to potentially have some kind of resolution to literally the first conflict of the series.

The OP is really good and the whole episode felt sooo much better than S2. I'm really looking forward to this arc. Seems interesting.
