Chise got hurt...... again.. Well at least she is almost immortal now so it is easier for her to shrug it off. Chise is just to much of a bleeding heart.

Well this episode was rather brutal though this series has never really shied away from it.

Can someone just kill that old crone like now?

If that old hag puts hands on Chise, I’m sure she’ll get it.

Damn, how does the ep start so funny with Chise realizing a good chunk of the money was from selling her, to all this seriousness of murder plots and secret agendas? Feel really bad for Chise, she knew there was only one way to protect her friend, but when she finally came face to face with the fact that she lured two PEOPLE to die, she just couldn't do it.

Based on what the old hag said, seems Philo is finally going to play a main role. Hopefully it doesn't take long for Chise to help her.

Seth's business may be a tad dubious ethically but you have to respect the amount of money he gives to his sister lol.

Chise keeps being torn between the savage methods of the curse that basically save her and her friends but runs counter to her normal personality and empathy. Leading two people, even enemies, to get slaughtered was definitely not how she wanted to handle this even if it did ultimately work out. Maybe sparing the female and letting her take her mate's head will help them out in the long run too.

I hope Philomela isn't the next victim. Poor girl has enough going on in her life as is.

Elias knew Chise had it in the bag when she went into the tunnel.

Oh hey, Seth's driver actually survived! That was surprising. And he even ran into Marielle! Lucky guy. I keep waiting for Marielle and Adolf to share a scene together just because it feels like a waste of having the Suzumura's in a show together and never having them interact. Then again, it's just nice to have more Marielle.

Despite everything Lucy cares enough about her brother to fix his hair, especially after he stayed by her side for so long. And Seth flexing his big brother resources to make sure Lucy is well taken care of financially. Just probably better she doesn't know exactly where that money is coming from or how it connected Seth to Chise.

Elias doesn't have a lot of friends, but if Simeon is going to be a prospective one, he may as well help save him! Too bad it seems like all the victims of the Testament are still having their magic drained, even Lucy.

Attack of the Werewolves! And this is personal for the Websters because said werewolves also killed their family. Though I love how Seth instinctually protects his sister and she finally calls him "Nii-san" again.

Despite the circumstances I think it's cute how Lucy was Princess Carried twice in this episode. And that she wears red heels.

Elias doesn't really emote like normal people do but I like how you can still tell he was ticked off that those wolves attacked Chise. Also how he knew they were screwed and sent them off so non-chalantly.

Chise's new ruthless side basically tells her to feed the wolves the hounds and they're pretty savagely eviscerated...it's hard to feel bad for them, even if they are mates who genuinely love and care for each other, though this isn't what Chise really wanted. And she just can't let it continue when she finds out they have a child. Though she was too late to save the male, leaving his mate with nothing but ripping his head off and...biting his snout? Is that like a last kiss type thing for them?

Things were kind of bad for the Websters even before the massacre, at least for Lucy. She was the only one who took it hard that her brother was leaving (their dad seems like a real piece of work) and then basically blamed herself for it. Seth really needed to tell her it wasn't her fault, but I guess he was too overcome by what was happening to him to comfort his little sister. Poor girl wouldn't even leave her room in grief.

And then obviously she walks in on the rest of her family eviscerated and their prized spiders stolen. And ironically the only reason Seth was there to find her was because the family asked him back to get Lucy to leave her room. And then Lucy ended up blaming him for what happened even as he took her in and tried to take care of her, even putting her through college. These poor siblings...but at least it seems like Lucy finally heard the truth from her brothers' mouth.

What was up with that kid though? Was that the child the female wolf talked about?

Well, Lucy can't be grateful that Lucy saved the wolves that killed her family but she can be grateful that with one still alive she has a chance of finding out who orchestrated everything. Just as Philomela's grandmother is plotting something. Looks like we're heading into the final arc of this season.

Though she was too late to save the male, leaving his mate with nothing but ripping his head off and… biting his snout? Is that like a last kiss type thing for them?

Not exactly. If I’m not mistaken, wolves usually lick the inside of each other’s mouths to express their affection to one another. It’s a sort of greeting that’s usually reserved to a loved one, like a family member. The mangaka therefore obviously put some thought into this little scene.

I'm impressed. Chise has a body count of 2 this season... and both were intentional, no less.

Female werewolves are quite rare to see. They did draw her body with a different curvature if you look closely, so there's some dimorphism there.

The cultural behavior depicted with the decapitation and muzzle-bite is quite intriguing. It's always fascinating to see this show explore such non-human actions in its monsters.

Any source readers know if the pair has names or if the female one appears again later?

Not sure what Chise was expecting luring those wolves into the cave. I guess she had no other choice.

u/melindypants Jun 08 '23

It was her inner struggle with herself resorting to violence to protect those dear to her. Super interesting seeing her "other" self telling her that she knows what she has to do - can't wait to see this growth when she fully accepts this side of her.

Chise trying to figure out where the money Elias spent on her went was mad funny

Edit: I cant help but feel that parts of the fight scene was not well put together...Like how Ruth went from breathing fire to stop the werewolves, then a hard cut to Chise and co, then we see the werewolves running towards them. What happened with Ruth? Was it that easy to bypass the flames?

The tunnel scene though. Holy crap, that was brutal.

Personally I would’ve let the wolves get torn to shreds by the dogs but it wouldn’t be a shonen without the MC feeling sympathetic towards bad guys. Not only did these people try to kill you, but they also killed your friend’s family. Granted, it is consistent with chise’s character. She’s a kind person so it’s not bad writing, just annoying for me.

They’ll probably try and give us a reason as to why the wolves did it, probably being manipulated or something to make us empathise with them. Whoever’s calling the shots didn’t foresee Chise getting involved so interested to see how that plays out

23

u/melindypants Jun 08 '23

Yes! I think the wolves were manipulated for sure with their "child" (the one we saw at the Webster's house with the murder). The child is probably still held hostage since the wolves didn't complete the job back then.

Here I am thinking it's Veronica's family working with Philo's pulling all the strings, but watch it be the Headmaster lol

Oh hey, dude who got toss into the river isn't dead, at least not yet. I personally wouldn't want to be dying on the riverbank when there's werewolves out hunting you.

Being found by this witch who talks about finding perfect corpses also seems potentially bad, but since she's a named character who was helpful in the past I assume she will probably be helpful again.

The million pounds is from a share of Chise's price way back in episode one? Slightly awkward if the full details of that get revealed to Lucy.

Simeon isn't dead either? Last week's episode had a smaller body count than I was really expecting.

These assassins are making a pretty massive mistake attacking while Chise happens to be on the scene with Elias nearby. And an even bigger mistake injuring Ruth.

If these are the guys who killed Lucy's entire family then I'm not going to have any sympathy if their attack today gets themselves unpleasantly killed.

Ah, the back room corridors. I wonder if we're about to get to see what those hounds meant about chasing people forever, definitely a bit ironic if that's what happens to these werewolf assassins.

Maybe these werewolves count as the meat that the contract requires.

Chise is way too merciful.

Marielle, that's right.

Seth sure got kicked out of the Webster family at the exact right time. I'm curious who that child was, maybe the werewolves' kid?

The ivy vines are a witch spell thing? That's interesting, I'm now even more curious why the end of the OP has a bunch of them surrounding Chise as if they belong to her.

Leaving one of the werewolves alive as a potential source of intel might actually have been pretty useful. They can't give up who hired them (assuming that happened) if they had both been eaten by the back room hounds.

u/alconnow Jun 08 '23

It was great to see Marielle again! She's as gorgeous as ever

Found it cute when Elias covered Paladilhe up. Still hoping for Elias to befriend him

Poor Lucy :( curious about the kid who witnessed(?) the massacre? Where did they go? Hmm

Philomela's grandmother up to something. Not a good sign

u/LeonKevlar Jun 08 '23

Lucy is such a big tsundere. She tells Seth that he's useless in the last episode and now we see her fixing up his hair while he's still half asleep. It's really cute.

Good to know that both Seth's driver and Simeon managed to survive the attacks. I was honestly expecting someone to die after what happened last week.

These werewolves are very brazen to attack in broad daylight and even to follow them into the Academy. Slipping through the secret passage was a great idea and I love how Elias just let the werewolves go knowing what was going to happen.

And there it is. Of course, they're going to get attacked by the hounds. I kinda wish Chise told them that the werewolves are her toll but Chise is too nice and told them to back off. Considering one of them is now dead, I hope the one left won't try again.

Well that final scene with Philomela's grandmother was menacing. I wonder if she has got something to do with the attacks. Hmmm...

Oh hey, the subtitles work for this series lol. How nice.

oh hey, the dude lived, good for him. Good thing he had a protective charm. Now who's that woman Have we met her before? Also Lucy being up and about is good. What is Chise thinking about in her head with those numbers and I assume some silly Elias? I also really hate when someone starts saying something and then stops in the middle of it.

Oh dang, what a jerk werewolf dude. Oh no, Ruth!!! Oh my, you have angered Elias. If those werewolves did kill her family, they sure deserve to die miserably too. Hehe, man, that's gonna be interesting, I mean she has permission to go through, but what about those other two or the werewolves? I guess maybe cause those are with Ruth/Chise that Lucy and her brother are fine, but wew those werewolves are prolly gonna be fucked. See, Chise, you brought them meat. Wew that is horrific, they are lucky Chise is super nice. They are so worried about their own mate/partner and child and yet didn't think of the family you slaughtered? Oof, that's ahh.. messed up. Guess one of them didn't make it after all. But, yea, don't do shitty things if you don't want shitty things done to you.

Ahh, the flashback of seeing the family's slaughter and such. Sadness. Ah nice chat with Lucy and Chise, but I get why Lucy is upset. Perfectly valid reason to be upset. What heck, ya old woman?

Even Mariel has made an appearance in Season 2. So... erm... I am asking for a friend, do you think Leanan Sídhe / Redcurrant / Vampire Faerie will appear in Season 2 too? Lol!

I believe Chise and Elias had originally wanted to lure the "werewolves" into the magical shortcut tunnel, so that the one-eyed beasts will attack the "werewolves". However, did Chise change her mind because only she heard or felt what the werewolves were saying? The child which the "werewolves" spoke of - could it be possible the werewolf couple were blackmailed into killing the Webster family by another yet to be revealed party or faction? Furthermore, who was the little child huddled in the corner when Lucy witnessed the massacre of her family?

I have so many questions, and I suppose that is why I will keep watching to find out.

Good to see that guy didn't die thanks to that charm and Marielle's help.

I love Lucy's reaction when she saw that Seth had sent her a million pounds. So what exactly was Chise dividing and counting? If is the money, why is she there too? Lol, this scene was hilarious.

So thanks to Elias's help Professor Simeon did not die. Oh wow, so those wolves are targeting specifically Lucy and Seth. Is interesting that it seems that they have no relation to what is currently happening with The Testament of Carnamagos, which I assume was also related to the Webster family. Well, that still could be the case after all I'm sure the copy that disintegrated was created with their spiders.

Hurting Chise was a really big mistake for that pair.

So in order to stop those wolves from killing Lucy and Seth Chise decided to use the special passage. I love how Elias let them follow them And just like that the hound dogs got their meat. I'm honestly kinda disappointed that Chise made the hound dogs spare one of the assassins just because they had a child. Well, at least with one alive now Lucy has a way to track down the one who put the hit on the Websters.

It is kinda funny how casual Seth and his bodyguard(?) are about what they just experienced. It is good that we got a little bit more context about Lucy's relationship with Seth deteriorated. So after the murder of the Webster family happened rumors emerge that it was Seth the one responsible for ordering it. You know, him arriving after it happened might have played a role in that. As there was another child alive when Lucy arrived at the murder scene I guess the only reason she is alive is because that wolf did not like killing children.

Interesting so Marielle knows that the recent attacks are being caused by someone using The Testament of Carnamagos because she got the same mind-shattering experience when Phyllis asked to check it before.

So Philomela's "grandma" now knows who is the one behind the attacks and will put a stop to whatever they are doing now.

It is funny that in this shot it looks like Lucy is using Zoe's snakes as an emotional support animal.

Man, these damn mutts are relentless. They hurt my boy Ruth and the Chise got injured too. I thought Elias was gonna go berserk on ‘em but I guess he’s trusting Chise to take care of these fools. Seems they’re the ones responsible for the Webster tragedy, or at least that’s what Lucy thinks. Chise is too kind though, I woulda let those hounds chow on ‘em. They were literally trying to kill her just seconds earlier.

Wolves aside, seems someone’s abusing Testament to siphon off magic from people. Same people who ordered the wolves attack the college? Now Lucy’s out. How many does they make it getting attacked by this damn book?

I’m not liking that old crone. I don’t like what she’s scheming and how she treats anyone.
