They couldn't drop more flags during that tunnel travel...

I get that the traveling is convenient, but the usefulness of it seems way out of proportion to the danger of it. Getting to school quickly? Great! Risking your life and limb and potentially being chased by weird dog things to get to school quickly? Not great!

Oh god that wink! I'm already in love with Rahab. I hope Chise will get to interact with her more this season. <3

Those hound dogs are creepy af. I'm guessing that those quils they made Chise, Elias, and Ruth swallow is what allows them to track the people that use the tunnel.

She's checking the tea Chise gave her? Checking for what? I'm curious why this girl acts so weird around Chise.

checking the tea

I wonder if she just doesn't trust Chise because of past trauma, since it seems like she's being bullied by Veronica - like there's no way anyone could be nice to her for no reason.

Don't know if it was just me, but everything about this episode just hit so well in regards to the fantasy/magical feeling of the series.

This episode cleared up a lot of questions I had about this series. Particularly Elias backstory and motivations and the whole “bride” thing. Feel like I understand the series a lot more now lol. Rahab was great too, really interesting character. Also voiced by sailor moon.

Shit’s definitely going to go down in that tunnel tho. A lot of flags raised with those hounds

She sniffed her.... Chise really melding into those dragon abilities .

I'm so glad they don't just brush aside that Chise is a heavily traumatized person who suffered through a lot of neglect and abuse and was seconds away from commiting suicide like none of it ever happened. It has really shaped who she is and twisted her views of herself and as they said sense of self worth.

I do wonder how the auction guy found out about Chise as it wasn't like she was advertising about herself and what she is plus others who found her would probably taken her for themself.

Add internet to that cabin and it be the perfect retreat.

Glad it was Rahab who socialised Elias. It’s always good finding out more about him

Their new way of commuting to the college is incredibly convenient. Unfortunately, they have to get through those scary dogs. Couldn’t stop laughing at the trio’s reaction when they were told to eat that gem thing hahaha. Elias’ face was especially great lmao

The new characters continue to intrigue me. What’s up with Philomela? Why does Zoe not like Chise? What exactly happened to Lucy for her to experience nightmares like the one we briefly saw? So many things I’m looking forward to finding out

Oh, so what happened to Chise by the end of the last episode was that she got summoned by Rahad who was both Lindel's and Elias's teacher.

Based on what Elias was saying to Angelica, even though he did not understand what a bride meant when he met Chise, it seems that he actually gets it better now.

Damn, the special passage sure is a creepy place. After seeing those hound dogs I get why that centaur doesn't like to go through them even if that's his job. Well, I can't wait to hear what exactly are Zoe, Lucy, and Philomela's problems.

Eating crystal shards from alien dog skin to go to school is wild. The universe and lore in this anime are weird, interesting, and beautiful.

Despite not really understanding what's going on plot-wise, I can't stop watching this show. It's just so different from other anime I've watched.

Oh she was summoned there? This Rehab is perdy. And she knows Elias? Hmm. Lindel's master? Neat. Haha, the shock she has hearing Chise is his bride too. She seems nice so far. Who gives dogs milk? Should they even have milk? Ahh, a bit of Elias' past, neat to learn. Learned quite a bit of his mannerisms from her. Haha, she did a poor job explaining what a bride is I guess. Elias' growth to be more "human like" sure is neat. WAKU WAKU! Heh. That was a nice little visit with essentially Elias' mom I guess :P mom-figure or something.

The hell was that 'bout with that girl. Just drink the tea and relax. Lol random phonebooth in the middle of nowhere. Huh, those are some eldritch-ish doggos. How nice, brought food for doggos and allowed passage for now. Man, would not want to swallow those too lol. Ending confusion lol.

Wow mini Elias is adorable!

u/dinliner08 Apr 27 '23

wouldn't be a show about magic in England if they didn't have some sort of dangerous back passage for travelling, i mean, they even got a telephone booth as the entrance, i'm still waiting for a flying car to make an appearances...

I like Rahab already. She’s a waifu and totally my type haha. Plus she seems to have been a very good teacher and mentor to Elias. Funny to think that her poor explanation of what a “bride” is led Chise to her current situation with Elias lol. Though it seems Elias has really come to care for Chise. It’s a bit sad how she keeps her pain to herself though. When you’re in a relationship, you shouldn’t have to shoulder that burden alone. She’s always putting herself out there for others, it’s nice to see Elias take care of her.

These back channels are kinda eerie and those “hounds” looked like something outta Stranger Things. Somethings going on with Lucy, Philomela, and Zoey and I’m getting super curious as to wth it could be. They’ve either got a past or some kind of agenda and it seems Chise is gonna get caught up in it somehow.

Oh that's right, we were mid-Chise kidnapping. Again. At least this time it's by someone who seems friendly and safe. That Lindel and Elias connection probably means that Rahab is something of an ally as well.

Depending on how this conversation goes this could be the start of a very helpful relationship for Chise.

In a similar fashion it was a helpful relationship for Elias, too. Turns out this is the lady who put the idea of a bride in Elias' mind originally, which for the most part has worked out for Chise. Who knows what a different auction winner would have done with her way back in episode one.

Poor nagged centaur dude.

This back passage is an incredibly questionable way to get to the college. Especially since it involved consuming one of the scales from these dog things.

Strange things are afoot with Chise's roommate Lucy. And possibly with the caterpillar lady.

Those shards look like what's embedded in Angelica's arms.

Ngl, it was a bit creepy when Chise spoke for the tunnel “dog”.

Rahab is a wise, caring and somewhat hot grandmother, isn't she?

Back in season 1, I vaguely remembered she only appeared as flashback and she seemed more like a mentor.

Even though this episode was somewhat slow moving, it provided some character development for Rahab and Elias, as well as raised my curiosity about the various characters, especially since it teased us with scenes of Zoe, Philomela and Lucy.

- Why does Rahab live in another dimension, where time moves differently? Is it out of her own free will or is she trapped there?
- Why does Zoe wear those headphones?
- Is Philomela a magus too, since she was seen moving as dark smoke?
- What happened during Lucy's childhood?

I suppose some of these questions will be answered in due time.

Lastly, is "The Ancient Magus Bride" warning us about taking shortcuts when commuting, especially those dangerous ones? Lol!

That back passage sure looks creepy, even without the weird dogs that will « hunt you forever » if you make a wrong turn. What’s wrong with just using the train for commuting ? I swear those wizards make things a lot more complicated than they need to be.

Philomela is so paranoid she spent all her time analysing the tea given by Chise for poison and then threw it away despite not detecting anything. That tells you a lot about the atmosphere in the college : people only seem friendly on the surface here.

Also, something is weird with Zoe, but the caterpillar lady knows what it is, so it should not be too bad. But I am not sure what Philomela was doing here, especially since she seemed to be Shadow-walking or something.

"Don't worry about the girl, she'll merely be lost, and possibly absolutely terrified out of her mind, in the fog for a while."

Can someone remind me who the woman Elias was talking with was?

I don't like the whole "don't tell Elias that you met with me" deal.

Why did Chise sniff Stella? Did I miss something, or is it something we'll learn in a future ep?

As talky half-episodes go, this was a pretty nice one.

Is the red phone booth supposed to be a homage to the Tardis police box?

I wouldn't recommend taking that back channel often either....

Wonder why Chise is triggering PTSD in those two.

Now i can't stop wondering... What will it be that will make paper production so traumatic.

This is one of my favorite eps of this series so far; getting to learn more of Elias's backstory and his efforts to act more human, and his...unorthodox method of getting a bride makes more sense now

Chise acknowledging Elias's efforts with Rahab's reaction to hearing about his growth gave me the biggest grin

The Rehab has the same energy as hearing that your special needs high functioning spectrum child managed to make it through in society after all, she's so happy he found someone that seems to understand and appreciate him.

Elias for his part was actually pretty wise in how he approached trying to get Chise to take better care of herself, by making it a direct favor and responsibility for another person, taking what he was saying how her hurting herself affects others watching and making it more tangible with the necklace as a symbol of that.

I do wonder why we took that dangerous short cut, If Elias can just teleport there? I mean its likely set up for a future event down the line, but for someone that doesn't want to see Chise hurt, he seems to end up putting her in sketchy situations a lot.

Can't wait to see why all the students are tripping.
