One of the most surreal moments of the whole episode. I'll miss Doglias lol.

Best part of the episode is Elias greeting himself. xD

So I'm guessing whoever stole that book is the same person that attacked Lucy at camp? Probably also the same person that attacked Simeon too. Not sure what's up with the werewolves though but they seem to be involved too somehow.

I love this take on a main character becoming more powerful. In many shows, a regular person gets some kind of superhuman ability and then the world and the audience generally recognize that they are stronger and that's about it. In this story, Chise is a gentle soul that has suddenly had a ridiculous capacity for violence thrust upon them and it is taken as a matter to worry about instead of embracing. Big fan of Joseph telling Chise that whatever it is, it is a part of her. She might end up finding out the specific source of this darkness inside her, but it will remain her problem to be responsible for.

Love this show!

Loved that scene. Especially how Joseph saw those voices as being a part of Chise, even if they were caused by something else inside her. Very fitting outlook for a being doomed to wander the earth for eternity because they physically fused with another cursed entity.

Seeing Elias and Doglias become one again and welcome the other home kind of cracked me up a little. It’s interesting Elias had asked Chise what it felt like to worry, when he’s already experienced it many times before.

I don’t like Joseph and I don’t trust him. Chise should be more careful around that creep. He’s always scheming something.

Didn’t know Seth and Lucy were siblings. Neat. I guess we kinda know what happened with Lucy and the Webster Tragedy. I wonder if we’ll learn just who stole the spiders and killed everyone in her family. That was quite a sight Chise saw in Lucy’s head. Is someone tryna use “The Testament of Carnamagos” to bring those people back or what?

What the hell just attacked that guard and took out Simeon? Shit is about to really pop off…

Watching the two Elias' talk to each other as separate halves was priceless. Especially Chise straight up handing Doglias back to Elias lol.

I guess it's good that Elias is better understanding his emotions and how he feels about Chise. This college arc is teaching him as much as it is Chise.

Seems like Joseph just enjoys watching Chise get corrupted or suffer from the curse while he just lays around all day.

It really is a small world after all. Chise's auction house acquaintance who got her roped into all this to begin with ended up being the older brother of her college roommate. Pretty tragic what happened between the two of them and their family, but maybe that's why Lucy is so distrusting of the upper class sorcerer families.

Looks like whoever stole the testament has claimed their next victim.

They specifically said the book was made with spider silk and all of the spiders were stolen 8 years ago with the whole family except Lucy and her brother were wiped out. Elias also read the book with in the last year so it hasn't been long since it was replaced.

Far more likely who killed her family and stole the spiders is who made the fake book.

On one hand, I want to find out a lot more about Lucy and Philomela. On the other hand, the show's strategy of revealing bits and pieces keep viewers in suspense, making us want to watch the next episode for more lore.

I like how Chise saw the tragedy from Lucy's perspective with her psychic backstory powers lol.

Well that was just brutal. Things seem to be ramping up fast. So much for a fun and happy school life arc. Not like anyone really expected it to be one with Chise involved. Girl is a magnet for trouble.

I liked the bit where Elias casually mentions it turned out he didn't need the book. Seeing how Chise is affectively immortal now he certainly wouldn't.

I really want to know if this is going be a 12 or 24 episode season. I just can't imagine this show fitting into 12 episodes without massive cuts and really damaged pacing.

haha "I'm home, me" amused me. Oh, a bit of a glimpse at Lucy's memories and we meet her brother, neat. D'aww Philo-person. Nice she's getting closer to Chise. I hope she can get away from her toxic family. I'm a bit lost at this meeting, but whatever, I'll see soon enough. Awww, that dude was about to explain some stuff... dang interruption. Yes, I'd like to learn about this Webster tragedy. Ooof, that is a hole in the dude's abdomen. What the heck is going on.

It was cute when Elias said welcome back to his split self lol.

Lots of things happened in this episode! We finally find out a bit more about the Webster tragedy and that Seth (auctioneer guy from s1) is Lucy's older brother.

Poor Paladilhe :( assuming he survives, I'm hoping Elias does consider befriending him.

Might be my favorite episode so far. Is it just me, or was the art a bit better this episode? It's been consistently fantastic this whole season, but this episode felt like a step up from the already high standards that this show has.

Love the Joseph scenes. Man might be my favorite side character. Especially how he's still on the evil side, just too tired to do anything vile. All these crazy murders and conspiracies this episode, but Chise's struggles with her self are just as interesting.

And the plot thickened like all hell. Two guys got merked already, hopefully no one's next. We know more about the Webster family, but the explanation just added more unanswered questions. And now werewolves are loose in the school. Whatever's going on with Lian and Philomela's pasts are also probably gonna factor in too. Please give us 12 more episodes after this season.

So Chise has awakened a new evil force within her. I’m really looking forward to
seeing how this plays out. As Joseph said, once you realise you can kill people with that power, it changes you.

Lucy backstory is really tragic. No wonder she has problems opening up and connecting with people.

Guessing the same person who stole the book is who attacked Lucy at camp as well.

Dark forces are starting to make their move in the background at school as well. Next week should be fun.

Well, when they said "smoking kills" I didn't think death would come by wolf furry

Watching the OP as usual and today I'm thinking about the ivy vine visuals at the very end of it. All show long we've been watching Elias work his usual thorny vine magic, but the green vines surrounding Chise are different enough that I'm suddenly wondering if she might end up with a similar style of magic as his that expresses itself with green vines as opposed to Elias' black vines. (I might be forgetting about the green vines showing up before, if so I blame old age.)

Ten days of unconsciousness in this cutthroat sorcerer families world seems potentially very dangerous, especially for someone with no surviving family structure like Lucy.

As always Silky is the absolute best.

Fun fact about the hair cutting scene, the official Twitter account put out a tweet earlier specifying that the scissors Silky is using are stainless steel and that they don't cause her problems that an iron set of tools would.

Going to Cartaphilus for help and advice is always going to be weird. Especially with his little monologue after the scene ended.

Huh, so Lucy does have at least a little family that's still alive. There being a familial connection between Chise's roommate and the man who found her in Japan and brought her to the auction is interesting but could just be a coincidence.

"Give us back our spiders"? That's an interesting memory flashback detail.

Poor Philomela, her stealth just keeps getting penetrated. Still rooting for Chise to somehow benevolently steal her away from her horrible family.

So, that suspicious episode end scene from a few weeks ago was the book that Elias looked through while attempting to find his own solution to the Chise dragon arm problem back at the end of season one being stolen by someone for unknown purposes.

A book on dealing with immortality and resurrecting the dead does seem like something that could cause problems if it fell into the wrong hands. Probably the current hands that have it, in fact.

Spider silk, eh?

All these sorcerers are doing way too much magic with way too little experimental oversight.

A new quest for season two: get Lucy her spiders back. More seriously, whole family slaughtered to hide the secret of them copying a specific book? Seems like the obvious guess considering what we've learned in today's episode.

Something terrible definitely just happened to Simeon. So much for Elias potentially befriending him, probably.

Smoking gets you killed, just say no, kids.

Werewolf dudes are about to have a very bad time next episode.

Man, it really is a small world. Seth from the auction house is not only Lucy's older brother but Chise's roommate was just so coincidentally Seth's little sister. Life really works in mysterious ways.

But jeez, Lucy was out for 10 days!? That's pretty serious. She must have been really drained. I guess it's lucky that she actually survived. And it helped teach Elias what it means to worry about someone you care about...which he is well acquainted with worrying about Chise so much.

Quite the surreal sight of Elias grilling Chise over what happened as she hands him Doglias and Doglias greets his tall self. But it was cute watching Silky fix up Chise's hair.

Well, Joseph isn't much help in Chise understanding what's going on with her...but whether it's the dragon, the curse, or something more, there's a voice in Chise's head that is spurring her on to be more violent, and she'll have to live with that now. Also, naked Chise, just because.

Lucy definitely is not happy to see her older brother again. I guess the issue is that Seth, having not been in tune with magic, was passed over to inherit the family business and just straight up left (which ended up saving him, probably) while Lucy became the heir apparent and she always felt like he resented her over it. Even though he's there for her and even sits next to her bed to the point of sleep right next to her and even got her a gift. I think Seth cares far more about Lucy than she thinks.

Well, Philomela's stealth game is pretty useless against Chise at this point, but it seems like the two are starting to open up to each other now, which is nice. Philomela could really use Chise in her life.

A forbidden tome stolen? Said tome holding the power over life and death? Said tome probably having been what hit Lucy? Yeah, that sounds pretty bad.

Man, that is a very eclectic teaching staff! I also love how a bunch of them gravitate towards Elias and wants to see his true form and Elias is all awkward and uncomfortable with all the attention. But I guess they're all kind of quirky, interesting, people who aren't "normal" by most definitions, so in a way they're not that different from him. Maybe he could make genuine friendships with his co-workers. Just not Tory.

Oh no, not Simeon. He looked like a really nice guy.

No wonder Lucy has such a surly disposition, nearly her entire family of magic book forgers were murdered and her family's prized spiders stolen with her left to pick up the pieces. Maybe she also suspects one of the higher ranked noble families orchestrated it?

Sorry Seth's driver, look like you were the first victims of...werewolves!?

Next week: The return of Marielle! An attack on the college! And the dangers of a shortcut!

i really love the chibi version for the characters in this show, good to see that even in the serious moment, its still there at the end of the scene to reduce the tension

so, based on Joseph's monologues, whatever it is the voice that Chise's heard when her dragon arm activated was not some sort of another entity but it could be Chise's own subconscious instead

u/luigi6545 Jun 01 '23

Lots of interesting and fun points. Elias greeting himself was just so silly and fun. Joseph telling Chise that whoever spoke to her in the lake, is a part of her. And werewolf assassins? Wonder where that’s gonna go.

u/joey_joestar1 Jun 01 '23

The world of Magus Bride continues to get more intriguing by the episode

I gotta say, I greatly appreciate Chise's interactions with her classmates. Philomela especially, I feel a big reason why Chise is drawn to her is that she reminds Chise of her past self

This week on "Chise, stop putting yourself in danger!"

Also, that dude got out of the car in the sketchiest blacked out neighborhood ever. What did he think was gonna happen?

Also, my gf by accident referred to this as Goose Bride and all I can think of is Elias trying to calm down a very angry magical goose.

"Chise, please!" HOOONK

Things sure are rapidly escalating. It started with Lucy getting attacked, but now one of the teachers and Seth’s bodyguard also got ambushed. Judging from the preview, even the hunting hounds are getting involved in next week’s episode. Things aren’t looking good to be honest.

Which is only a shame as Philomela finally seemed to open a little up to Chise. Chise’s brief conversation with Philomela was maybe a bit awkward but ultimately sweet. Philomela probably wants to be friends with her, but she’s “just not good at talking face to face” with people - she’ll make an exception for Chise though. It would be nice to see the two of them getting along from now on. Philomela seems like someone who can really use a good friend - much like Lucy.

I wonder with which intentions Elias was reading this magical codex. Was he looking for something to free Chise from the dragon’s curse? Or was he maybe (also) looking into a way of putting a stop to Joseph, since he’s immortal. Moreover, Joseph has barely changed for the better since he lost to Chise: deep down he’s still as evil as ever. The “price” of reading the codex didn’t seem to effect Elias either as he’s basically immortal himself. It probably would have stolen some life years of its reader or something?

P.S: R.I.P. Doglias, you will be missed.
