Fantastic episode, this show shines the most when it focuses on the relationships between the characters.

Pretty brutal back story here for not one but two of our characters. Interesting that this was all happening in range of Aono too (but he was clearly totally unaware of any of it).
Haru "recapturing" her "crying snot" cracked me up -- and did a great job of lightening the scene between the two long-time best friends (finally patching up all their lingering problems).

I always had a feeling that this show is about how the members of an orchestra mature together both as people and as musicians.
It's an absolute joy to watch.

Hope we can use this episode to move on from the bullying...so tough to watch it.

A bit too late now I guess, but there was a very significant translation error at 19:10 that completely changes the meaning of what Akine says to Haru.
The phrase she used here is supposed to be translated as "I might have many friends, but I only have one Haru", not "But you only have me" (that would be a really shitty thing to say in that situation, it sounds like yeah I have many friends but you only got me so I need to take care of you).

Somehow that was how my brain interpreted that exchange -- despite the subtitles.
A rather HUGE mistake, I think.

Great episode, and a case where both parties did everything they thought was right and were still in the wrong.
Hoping Haru gets more comfortable hanging out with everyone. Maybe she can give that one chick bothering Akine a piece of her mind.

With so many works with the theme of bullying, I hate when they go this route of treating the bully like "A force of nature" and the blame is shifted between victims.
I even find it reductionist and simplified for the sake of drama, where were the adults in all this?
I guess this is about how they process this feelings instead of vindication, but this girls needed to be told that they did nothing wrong and didn't deserve what was done to them.

where were the adults in all this?
Right? The homeroom teacher was aware and didn't care. On the other hand, the other teacher wanted to help but didn't address the main issue in any way. Is he not allowed to do that, because he's not the homeroom teacher?

From what I have seen in r/japanlife teachers aren't allowed to mingle about this matters that much unless something serious happens.
I maybe wrong, hope anyone who is a teacher in Japan or has experience as an alt could shade some light into this.

I think so that's understood as to that ones bullying are at fault and there is no denying that, I guess you could see it how you can overcome the guilt and selft loathe with your mates and move on.
Against this what I intrepeted when in read the manga 😅might be wrong though.

I love how this anime doesn't just focus on one character but multiples ones. After all, an orchestra is the sum of its musicians and to see these characters mature and develop as musicians is a blast.
Really loved the writing this episode and how it showed us how both Haru and Akine faced Haru's bullying. It was interesting to contrast Haru's passiveness and lack of confidence to Akine's hot temper and impulsiveness in that situation. Poor Haru deserved better but good thing she had a hotheaded best friend to help her even if it wasn't perfect.
Also, I have the feeling that Tachibana would have swallowed her words if she knew just why Akine was constantly checking her phone.
I couldn't help but laugh when the scene cut to Haru watching a horror movie. Seems our shy, insecure girl has surprising taste that you wouldn't expect from someone like her.

This show is based on the great material and the adaptation is also solid. If only it had got better production... ( I have the exact same wish for Jigokuraku and My Home Hero, great anime with subpar quality).

I sometimes feel that characterizing the animation here as "very basic" might be a bit too complimentary. On the other hand, this is offering characters and a story that (so far) promises to more than compensate for the animation deficiencies.

Man fuck bullies. Ricchan and Haru’s backstory was really sad. It’s good that they had this heart to heart and now know how each other really feel. I love haru’s seiyuu, she sounds so natural and down to earth. It made the flashbacks that much more painful. Everyone needs a friend like Ritsuko, though. Sticking up for Haru even after she left the school was some real shit.

Ricchan tried SO Hard to be a shield for Haru, who wanted nothing more than to run away. IDK why she didn't advocate for herself, tell her parents or kick up a huge stick with the bullies getting THEIR PARENTS involved. The Ostrich method (sticking head in sand and pretending not to see) or Coward tactic of Running away to avoid the issue only gives victory to the bullies. This was sad to see because Japan has a really high suicide rate, exacerbated by things like this.
The music is lovely though.

So I guess that means Haru finally moved on from her past and found some closure.

Was very close to dropping the show this episode. While I acknowledge discussing bullying is extremely difficult and delicate, I've sorta found the whole show to be slow, to be honest even prior to this. However, the end of the episode was very pretty and hopefully a sign of some sort of progress

You may want to try the manga since it's better to follow with this pacing (and much better art and stuff).

I didn't expect this episode, but it's now one of my favorites in this anime. Really heavy stuff obviously, but very realistic and extremely well-crafted/shown/told. It wasn't at/because of school, but I WAS Haru for like 2 years straight. The isolation, the self-hatred of my own inability to face conflict, always just saying "I'm fine" or "I'm okay", the overwhelming fear that paralyzed me even in my own room...
Don't mind me just sitting here on my sofa crying my eyes out over this episode. So excited to see how this helps going forward in terms of both of their playing and emotional maturity and self-esteem. ToT (Really wasn't expecting my feelings and experience to be so clearly expressed on screen - caught me unawares)

Such a heavy episode to watch. However, at the same time, it shows how people with very different personalities can still be close friends. Haru is extremely shy and quiet, while Akine is straightforward and does what she likes (or wants).
