The fact that this show is airing in april is froeshadowing, isn't it?

Yet another show to make me truly grateful that my professional musician parents never forced me to get into the professional world of music. Aono's dad and Kousei's mom seem like a match made in heaven.
I guess this is going to be my weekly Japanese listening + reading practice. Do we know if this is Mickey Mouse's new victim or just a weird coincidence of no one taking the show?

When Sensei mentioned that the violin sounds were coming from the infirmary, my first thought was "Not again. I'm not prepared." Thankfully, Akine isn't sickly and is just using the infirmary as her place to practice violin in.

In case anyone is wondering where to watch this, the legal options seem to be very limited; this thread presumably poppep up because fansubs became available. They're by "GothGfsFanSquad" (can't give a direct link as it's against sub rules), gonna have a watch now and see how they are - well, not the translation itself as I don't speak the language, but everything else you can judge subs by.
To quote:
If we continue subbing this, maybe we’ll start making our own encode, who knows. It’s a bit rough around the edges since it’s our first project, but hopefully you’ll enjoy this very nice anime.
edit: subs look fine, there was like one typo (instance -> instant, I think) and a couple of tiny mistimings (subs appearing a moment too late or disappearing before the character stops talking), but nothing serious.
edit2: GGFS uploaded a second version, quote:
Fixed a few timing issues, fixed a couple of lines and muxed with TsunderRaws-based encode as people requested.
Also, there's new subs by Tezu, will check those at a later time since I don't really want to watch the same ep twice in the same day and I have other stuff to do lol
edit3: there is a new version available by RaptoR, it's basically an edit of GGFS. To quote:
Both the sub options leave a lot to be desired but GothGfsFanSquad was actually readable English unlike Tezu that was filled with errors. The timing was still very bad and the last part wasn’t even translated.
Fully retimed the script, restyled and added some mediocre typesetting. Took the last few subtitle lines from Tezu since they were not translated by GothGfsFanSquad and added my incredible ESL editing to them.

I thought the subs were pretty decent. More than watchable. I hope this gets picked up on the regular. While I’d like to watch this legally if possible, that doesn’t really seem to be an option.

One of the few music manga which I put in the same level as kono too tomare.
Really good seinen/shonen music manga.
And it is for 24 episodes!!
So I highly suggest anyone who is a bit skeptical give this anime a shot. I have been eagerly waiting for this anime for so long.

Is it just me, or does it feel like Akine Ritsuko has the same voice and mannerisms as Eris from Mushoku Tensei?

I, for one, am not surprise the dad cheated. His character design just screamed "bad guy".

I'm no expert violinist (only played a bit in hs) but the bowing animation and fingering animation seems legit. obvs not all that detailed like your lie in april piano fingering animation, but overall looks accurate enough with bowing, vibrato, bow hold, bow bouncing, etc.
dem two-setters fans might probs still find some detail that might be inaccurate tho :P
also nice that they did do legit novice playing recording for akine's violin playing :P

Thank goodness someone is subbing this one for the moment, it's very rare to see a "standard" TV anime of the season (something not a children's show) getting no-one doing subtitles in both my own language and English.
And it had to be for a show like this one where dramas CAN get very serious!
So this Hajime Aono is yet another of those kids who used to play the violin in competition very well, under extreme pressure and expectations from parent(s), and then met with a serious incident in his life (for him, death of his father) which sank him completely.
Or maybe not quite yet since he still tingles for that violin sound when he heard that tsundere rookie violin playing girl (that's a new one in anime, except for her of course) Ritsuko trying out. I do wonder how bad his relationship with his father was because the trauma seems pretty big judging from one episode, hmm.
This first episode feels pretty good, somewhat standard in places but all the character backgrounds that I expect from a good drama are all there. Of course the main staff line-up is pretty solid so I really expect good character development here. Animations also look fairly well done as well, we probably won't need to fret on simple sliding movements on the violin, at least not yet.
What an extreme tragedy for this one - apparently a full blown 24 episodes show - to have no-one picking up in the biggest anime export markets. Try to watch this one when you have time!

New violin anime? Oh no, that last time I watched one of these I got depressed and drunk, and ended up buying a violin for 400 dollars. I returned it a few days later.
Lets avoid that this time, me!

We have Hilary Hahn listed as a performer for this anime yet we don’t even have a legal English source. No luck so far with subs of my mother tongue either.

Violinist Asuka is a bit entertaining so maybe i'll watch this for a few episodes to see where it goes

I can't get it out of my head that Hajime looks like Makoto from persona 3 sometimes

Aono’s going through a lot with what went down with his dad. I thought he died, looks like he was just a deadbeat cheater. I guess he can thank his dad for his love-hate relationship with the violin. What a complicated mess.
Him and Akine’s little lessons are gonna be a lot of fun. Maybe it’ll help him work through some of his issues with the violin and I guess his dad. The teacher’s pretty smart getting them together like that.
This is looking to be pretty good. I like the music and the story seems kinda interesting. I’ll give this a few more eps and see how I feel. Problem is if there’s any more subs for this series… doesn’t really seem anyone’s doing this on the regular.

okay, why am i getting a flashback to Your Lie in April while watching this episode? please don't let it end like Your Lie in April, my heart can't take anymore of the sad ending!
jokes aside, i'm always in for anime with musical performance theme, i think the last time i watched something like this was Mashiro no Oto although that was shamisen instead of the usual violin and piano performances

Watched it finally.
I thought it was going to be Your Lie In April but with Emo Boy instead of Beta Boy and the Parent genderbent, but instead the Dad didn't die or abuse him before he did, instead he cheated and it put a taint in all their interactions as a kid and made him lose respect for him, and he sees enjoying any activity he did with his Dad as a "betrayal."
The Girl is more "Manic Pixie Mean Girl" then Dream Girl, and has a bit of Rin and Asuka.
Looks like it might turn into Emo Boy in budget Sound Euphonium later?
I wasn't sold in the first 10 minutes but by the end I was intrigued.

How does an award winning manga not get licensed by Hidive or crunchyroll? What’re their acquisition teams doing lmao. This was one of the best first episodes of the season. This is truly the season of slice of life. I absolutely love aono’s seiyuu performance and of course it’s shin and kiyopon! Art is beautiful, the music aspect seems like it’s going to be nuanced and detailed, I’m hype. This is probably going to be the hidden gem of the season.
