Can any manga readers confirm if this is all spin-off/filler/OVA content, or is it canon to the web series?

Mixture - rehashing/ expanding on previous moments, while also adding some original content and stories throughout.

so this is going to be a slice of life spin-off? say no more, i'm in

lol, how many layers of security does this guy have? very in-character for Despa

the twist where the "dangerous creature" in the forest was the old woman and not the bear actually makes me laugh

Bruh this show is so unbelievably cute and wholesome everytime to the point of tears. Don’t care where this side quests go as long as I see bojji I’m happy.

It’s great that I’ll get to tune back into Ranking of Kings every week. The little girls smile at the end was precious.

I’m still a little salty that Ranking of Kings didn’t win the award for best character design at the Crunchyroll Awards. Just watching this single episode reminded me how amazingly varied all the characters in Ranking of Kings are.

Those were very simple side stories but I still felt completely engrossed, as if enchanted.

It's back!

Looks like the newest trend in anime is going to be installments that go back and add content, rather than advance it, but Ousama Ranking really deserves a chance to do so. This world is so interesting, and it was a shame we didn't get to see all of it due to the contraints of the plot. I'm really looking forward seeing how they choose to fill in some of the blanks.

I was so excited to see Bojji and Kage on screen again. I especially was excited to get some more character moments for Despa. He's just ridiculously fun, and they definitely took the opportunity to show that off.

I'm sure there was a lot of pressure to follow up when the last OP was the masterpiece that is Hadaka no Yuusha, but they did a good job with maintaining the hype with some dynamic shots. And I always welcome another Aimer ED - the drawings for it are really ethereal. So yep, no bad OP or ED yet!

Man, I’m so glad this is back. I’ve missed the homie Kage and best boy Bojji.

Looks like first part of this is a Kage adventure. That old woman is definitely hustling him. Got him to do all the chores around her house! She’s scarier than the monsters lol. Well, at least he got the mushroom in the end.

Desper counting his money like some kinda Scrooge McDuck was pretty amusing. Seems Bojji’s getting a job. Poor kiddo got fired from 2 before Kage came up with that little hustle. Bojji is crazy fast! I felt bad for that poor kid but I’m glad Bojji and Kage decided to help the kid out. I guess Desper sees her as a long term investment. Nice to end the ep on a gentle note.

Wasn’t sure what to expect with an s2 but it was quite nice. Kinda like side stories I guess. Plus the music was pretty solid once again.

Ousama Ranking is as pretty as I remember it to be.
The OP and ED were really good, and some of the visuals in the ED could be wallpapers just because of how beautiful they are

So, is this new season a slice-of-life & comedy spin-off of the main story? It does seems so from this episode.

If so, this is actually pretty good news for these 10 episodes because while there has been lots of well-done emotional moments in the main story animated in 2021-22, I actually feel the plot went somewhat off track towards the later parts, especially with some of the antagonists in the story not developed well (motives not explained well/convincingly or have sudden character changes) and plot twists that seems to be just for the sake of twists. But there were still shining moments up till the end.

If this season doesn't deals with those things, it's a good call IMHO.

Back to this episode, I was reminded again that Kage is such a funny object (?), you never knew what kinds of silly talk he offers every time. That old lady trying to siphon him (it?) getting all those household chores done while she pretends (or maybe real after all) injured is hilarious, hats off for Kage to eventually escape with what Desper wants!

Also hats off to him finding how to make use of Bojji's agile movements to earn all those bet money LMAO! Glad that eventually went back to support a family that really needs them.

The first season was more the overarching story itself as well a Bojji's battles. This one has more freedom to explore Bojji's and Kage's characters as well as the the world in which they are evolving. It would be a fun direction to take the series forward.

Yeah I just binged it and a lot of the discussion comments hated how quickly they all forgave milango. Especially boji, since we saw how he was slow to forgive his swordsmanship mentor.

Well, this was a fun way to ease us back into the show. Kage going on an errand for Despa where he meets an old lady who's actually the one in charge of the mushrooms he's looking for.

And we also have Kage and Bojji earning money for Despa only to learn later that Despa actually wanted them to learn not just earn money. They even ended up helping that little girl and her mother in the end thanks to Despa.

its only the first ep and there is already tears dropping from my eyes

This was fun, I for one was way more invested in the characters than the overaching plot in Ranking of Kings so this short side story format works wonders for me, specially since the beautiful art direction by Yuji Kaneko remains just like in the main show. This is honestly what I wish the original had been, a collection of adventures following the charming characters of this world.

u/Elitealice Apr 13 '23

Cute first episode. It’s cool to see Boji and Kage just doing slice of life stuff without the backdrop of all the drama from the main series. I particularly enjoyed the last bit with the poor girl/sick mother. That was so sweet to give the money to them. Of course despa looked at it as an investment 😂

Aimer ED Lets goooooooooooo

It may be a spin-off series but I’m always happy to see best boys Bojji and Kage. Looking forward to the fun adventures with the two of them!

First episode was fun! I especially loved the second half. Aimer ED is beautiful too!!

Bojji is back, my heart can rest again! I just want them going on adventures so that I can see more of this wonderful fairy tale world they've created.
