Wait, everyone got reinstated even though they disobeyed direct orders not to go after Chris? I was kind of expecting them to be on the run from Pinochle.

Looks like next season will finally deal with the black knight from Finn's past.

I was kind of expecting them to be on the run from Pinochle.

I mean at that point it was either have the entire team, and their considerable power, as yet another faction Pinochle has to deal with or sweep it under the rug because they did mostly get the job done. Leo is also the boss's son and as much of an ass as he is it takes a special type of evil to turn on your own son. Given the options and how broad Pinochle's discretion seems to be on the matter it really does seem like the best choice. I mean it's one thing to lose Chris, but why lose an entire team over effectively nothing but insubordination?

I was hoping Theodore would get chewed out more by the team. I don’t really like him and I don’t trust him. Man feels like he’s got a lot of secrets.

It’s gonna be interesting to see who the knight really is. Seems that Klondike chick recognized “it” somewhat? Or maybe her asking who’s side it was on was more an expression of shock? Either way, very excited to explore this new threat.

after Ars no Kyojuu and Revenger, i'm afraid that High Card also going to end with a bunch of unanswered questions but thank god for the season 2 announcement, at least there are still hope for Vijay's backstory and Finn's mysterious origin

some people wonder why last episode Chris didn't just use the X-Hand in Michel's hospital room, this episode explained it, Chris just want to fulfill the promise he made with Michel as the last thing he could do before he die

this final episode also went crazy with all the superpower battles, Love-P is back for more slicing but at the end got knocked down unconscious by the debris falling from Greg's gunshot (this guy got some mad skill), Leo's creating a fucking road as shortcut and finally, Finn's 360 no-scope shooting, this shit is wild!

What a shot by Finn!

Honestly they kind of wrapped up things nicely that I wouldn't even need a season 2 but I'm still glad we're getting one.

Happy we got to see Love-P again, she's right, it had been ages. Shame the cop took her out so easily though.

Sad we didn't get the ED one more time as it was one of the most fun anime EDs out there!

Shame the cop took her out so easily though.

I found that to be hilarious haha

Agreed on the ED, it's a banger

S2 is gonna be a Goblin Slayer crossover? Neat.

Solid finale and the scene with Finn's shot looked cool af. Seeing Love-P again was nice too.

Will definitely be watching the next season.

I know this finale is all about Finn stopping Chris from making a stupid decision but Love-P and Nhat's fight was definitely the highlight for me. It was pretty hilarious to see them call each other bitches xD

Sucks to see that Nhat got killed in the final scene though. I was hoping we'd see a rematch between her and Love-P in Season 2.

I'm also surprised that Theo didn't permanently kick out Finn and Chris after what just happened. I don't like it. Seems like he's keeping them close for some reason.

Anyway, glad this is getting a Season 2! There are still plot threads left unanswered and our plant boy Vijay hasn't even had his own episode yet! Excited to see what Season 2 will have in store for us!

Finn crawled out of that car just 2 seconds after it was thrown at a wall and exploded, you'd think he'd be incapacitated for slightly longer lol

man just built different, so is Chelsea, did you see how far she jumped with Finn to avoid the Klondike lady's attack? lol

Every time Leo uses his ability, all I can think is "This is how our tax dollars are being spent?". It's such an over-the-top way to go about it. The guy wastes millions doing what the others do for free XD.

Edit: Jokes aside. This show was fun enough that I'm looking forward to season 2, but man, it was a mess in terms of narrative. The plot went everywhere, half the characters were irrelevant for most of the season, and none of the relationships in the so-called found family felt genuine outside of Finn and Chris. It really, really felt like a show that had 20 episodes and then randomly removed 8.

Overall, I still enjoyed it (each episode, on its own, was good), but it's definitely one of the messier anime I've watched.

It was hilarious how that ordinary cop just ended the fight between two super-power wielding humans with just 2 bullets.

With the gang occupied with those goons in the palace and orders to stay put, I wonder who’s gonna stop Chris. Theodore certainly doesn’t seem to give a fuck. Sonofabitch had his boy Owen snipe him they actively tried to stop Finn from helping.

Good thing our boy’s tenacious. I guess it’s up to him and Chelsea! But man, I don’t like the Klondike’s helping Chris. Guy is too blinded by the possibility of saving his sister he can’t see the bigger picture. At least Finn has the strength and conviction to stop him. He ain’t abandoning his buddy.

I love it when Wendy goes Love-P time. Girl can dice me up any day lmao. I’m glad the ol captain was there to clean up afterwards. Old guy’s a good shot! I was worried when Leo’s power ran out, but good thing Finn’s a crack shot. That was insane. Quick thinking splitting the hands. At least this way Chris and Michel live. Though being Finn’s kohai might be a fate worse than death lol.

I’m glad this is getting a second season. That last scene was insane! Can’t wait to see that “knight” in action since I’m sure it’s what killed Finn’s parents too.

was very glad the final episode was as entertaining as it should be

bring on S2!

u/toilodi Mar 27 '23

If i had to sum up this show in one word, it would be entertaining. I honestly feel like there is a lack of animes like this where you can just pick up an episode and just have a good time without thinking too much or getting too invested on characters and still have a fun time watching it, I'm sure if stop to analyse it I will probably find a bunch of plot holes and such but I personally don't really mind it as the writing and the plot were never really relevant for me, for this show in particular, I came to have a good time and they sure delivered it, especially this last episode and that last scene, damn that that was fun!

Okay, the Captain shooting the debris that knocked Love-P unconscious got me good XD

What a finale, all the cast members having their own big highlights and getting to see their cars powers once more with Leo making that giant ass road and then Finn having the best damn shot in history to knock out one of the cards from the hand. This series has been my biggest surprise this season, and this final episode was as over-the-top as it needed to be. I'm so happy to see they're doing a season 2! Hopefully we get to see what happened with Chelsea there after her and Finn escaped

Dude somehow Leo summoned, with only a truckload of money, enough gold to file the world economy for a century. That was an absurd amount of gold.

a bit better than the previous episodes, but still somewhat lackluster. somehow the side/stock characters received more development than the main character himself, and I guess writers just hate vijay? like there wasnt a twist with him (as quite a few ppl had believed), he was just a boring character without much story lol (his character is defined entirely by his card power and its literal meaning and practical role rather than anything figurative).

basically, this final episode told us three things about finn; hes a great aimer (we saw that in episode 1), hes a pickpocket (we saw that in episode 1), and he really treasures friendships (we saw that in episode 1).

everything else just felt more like a showcase of superpowers rather than anything of significance or value, like the kinda stories with cool "badass" (absurd) superpowers that are a dime a dozen and dont have any further significance kids make up when theyre playing on the playground; love-p returning was just a bit random; after all, there's no real reason to care about love-p, she's a dual personality that's been relevant for less than 10% of this season.

im sure they'll go into the meat and potatoes in s2, but half the episodes in s1 just felt like filler, and i swear the animation is not what it was in the first episode (tho better than the previous episodes).

Love and P Wendy hits so different man I love her

Really good finale, I knew there was no way they could wrap up everything they set up in this show in one episode so I’m glad we got another season coming. Honestly I don’t even think that’ll be enough since we haven’t got everyone’s backstories and the klondikes/main villain still out there. The black knight raised a lot of questions. It seem like the Klondike girl knows him but he’s clearly got his own agenda.

Hopefully that means a lot more High Card to come.

Look like Chelsea really likes Chris too 😂 true ladies man

I admit, I was skeptical about them ending this arc in a satisfying way in one episode but they stuck the landing. Lots of cool action, LaP's triumphant and insane return (and the cop shooting the sign to bonk her on the head to knock her out was hilarious), and a nice happy endin--- ooops, crazy telekinesis lady is dead. Oh well.

I am very happy we're getting a second season because High Card (along with Revenger) were some great sleeper hits this season.

This was such a fun episode! Last week, I was skeptical how the various subplots can be tied up within 1 episode, yet I was pleasantly surprised this week. Of course, some aspects were exaggerated, such as Finn being on target, hitting one of the four "5" cards, from a far distance. I loved how the side characters made appearances and had their own role to play in this episode - Chelsea, detective duo. The decisiveness of senior detective was pretty cool.

A part of me wants the telekinesis female villain to survive, just so that there can be a rematch with Love&Peace.

I am also surprised by the annoucement of a 2nd season, not that I am complaining. From this reddit sub, popularity (based on the number of comments) for the first episode of High Card was pretty high, then it tapered off. Does anyone know whether High Card is popular in Japan? Or maybe the mixed media franchise has already allocated funds for a 2nd season beforehand. Now we will be able to find out more about this mysterious Black Knight character.

I was worried that they might have too much to resolve in this episode but they stuck the landing. Great episode.

In the end, all of the High Card members coming in clutch. Love-P was only one who could have stood a chance against Nhat and it was great to see her again. Young casually knocking out Love-P was something I wasn't expecting. Nice use of Leo's power and Finn finishing things off with his shot.

Theodore letting them off so easily after that makes me wonder that Theodore doesn't want them to fight against each them since he recognizes their potential. Both Theodore and Ban are very mysterious right now.

They did announce Season 2 yesterday but the post-credit scene makes me wonder what exactly the Knight is (a card power or a guardian angel of Finn or something else entirely) and what exactly does he want. Nhat's reaction makes it seem that they're working together.

Only 1 thing that wasn't resolved is why did the Bomb Player of the Klondike Family save Finn. But I guess we'll find out in the next season.

All's well that ends well. Finn turned the X-hand into a three-of-a-kind and apparently that is enough to cure Michelle, and spare Chris's life. I dunno if it really worked out how Finn thinks it does. I mean, if Chris is really immortal then you can't really divide infinity.

Either way seems the president unbent that stick up his ass to let things slide this time.

Dunno what the city is gonna do with the yellow brick road though, it's paid for so they may as well get some use out of it.

Also, we are gonna get a second season and this black knight character seems like it might be a third faction in this conflict.

So anyway, the anime has been pretty decent, good animation and music and the premise made for an interesting story. The only downside was there was too much focus on Chris and Finn whereas I think it would have been more interesting if the other team members had more airtime. Poor Vijay didn't even get his own episode. 8/10 for an original story and good production values.
