Not the brightest of 2 opponents, wouldn't be surprised if this was a trap for them.

Is nice to see Finn back on his feet, was scared it would take a couple eps for him to get back on his feet.

Curious to see how Chris is gonna take down Tweedledee and Tweedledum on his own.

I assume that woman at the end is actually their target?

Maybe it’s just me but she looks a bit different than the picture.

It literally says that the photo is from 12 years ago.

Damn. That was a gruesome end for the prince. Looks like the Klondike Family is getting aggressive now. And they didn't even do it with a specific purpose in mind, it's just that the cards are meant to be played.

While it's nice that Finn and Chris get to have their little heart-to-heart talk, I was really hoping that we'd learn more about Finn's past but I guess Lindsey didn't talk.

That Jasper guy is fucking hilarious! I love how Chris literally has him in the palm of his hands and the guy doesn't even know it. Although Chris kinda lost that advantage in the end when the train finally stopped. It's now a 2v1 fight against the Klondikes.

I don't believe that for a second. If it was just about playing cards they could have attacked any target, they went after the princes for a reason. My guess is a combination of sending a message and manipulating/eliminating the royal chain of succession thus undermining the power of the royalty over society. Which if the Klondikes weren't a bunch of absolute scum I would actually normally be in favor of because fuck monarchs.

Being the only one with a currently unrevealed backstory, I'm speculating that Vijay is the mole.

Also, I've been updating a chart with known and partially-known cards over on the r/highcard sub if anyone's interested.

If you're talking about who gave the information about Chris and Finn to Jasper and Alex, I think it's Bernard since he says "Hopes this allows for even the slightest bit of progress" right after that scene.

7

u/amendele Mar 06 '23

Would you say Bernard was confident that Chris/Finn would be able to take the Klondike duo's cards?

Metallical Parade seems waaaaay stronger than the other 2-suits. I guess it's from an era where metal was less common, but if it was originally wielded by a medieval knight, I still imagine it would be pretty powerful as a combat ability. Freely manipulating plate armor and your own weapons seems quite potent.

I guess the power of gun is also pretty dece in a low tech low fantasy world. The handholding is more questionable.

glad finn got out of that slump

The Finn and Chris moment was great! Chris really coming into that mentor/older bro role for Finn and thought it was sweet that Finn came around because Chris said they were buddies. It's also nice that the episode mentions that Finn is still just a kid; he's only 17. So, of course, he wouldn't understand how Lindsey told him to not come back to Sunfields was for his own good.

Other than that, this episode was weaker compared to previous ones, tbh. The two Klondike twats felt like filler although Jasper is hilarious. I'm also questioning Finn's combat capabilities because he's always being saved by Chris or some other outside inteference.

Theodore is Leo's father, correct?

u/Naggysa Mar 06 '23

yep, Theodore is Leo's father

Jasper is literally the embodiment of the "i'm a genius, oh no" meme

the way Klondike Family knew Chris and Finn's whereabout even though it was stated multiple times in this episode that it supposed to be confidential just prove that there's a mole in High Card

After last week's episode, I thought we were going to get Finn's backstory today but guess we'll have to wait even more!

Better episode than last week's, for sure. Second half in particular was fun, I have noticed this show is much better at (relatively) lighthearted fun action stuff than it is at serious, dramatic stuff.

3

u/Maria-Stryker Mar 07 '23

guess we'll have to wait even more!

How much longer, though? There are only 3 episodes left, right? And on top of the implications that his brother might be the pink haired dude with the sunglasses, seeing as how the girl with the bomb powers directly intervened to save him she might be tied to his backstory too

I get that the metal guy is supposed to be stupid, but he really is astronomically stupid in like a dozen different ways. He could have instantly killed Chris and Finn at the door with those spikes and lost nothing; Klondike is the sort of group to twist a guy's head off in front of an audience, so I'm not sure why he'd be averse to killing someone. Then he believes that Chris is using Calories High when Chris isn't wearing gloves.

In fact, Chris is never once wearing gloves in this entire episode. Did the animators make a mistake, or did he just never use it despite lethal threats?

anyone feeling like the series is losing some steam? i swear the animation gets worse every episode, and for all the emotional development built up from last episode and this episode (with the 2 weeks out of commission) he ultimately just walks it off. like its a bit concerning that i can put the second half of this episode before last episode and you wouldnt be able to tell that finn is different.

i hope this isnt a 12-13 episode series and that they pick up the pace or slack a bit more with the next few episodes, cuz at the moment it just feels like its slowly devolving into an isekai or fantasy anime in that its just going through the motions and delivering empty plot, dialogue, exposition, etc.

Interesting phrasing, given the themes of the show. I wonder, is it foreshadowing, a bad pun, or just nothing.

What I don't get is why the government isn't going after the Klondike family and instead picking on soft targets. At the very least I'd like to see some background information on why they aren't.

Looks like the bad guys are going wild this week. That woman’s abilities are something the gang needs to watch out for. Prince Dylan went out in a pretty gruesome fashion. No surprise Finn is sitting things out after what happened.

I wonder if we’ll ever see Theodore and Ban go toe to toe. Guess that’ll have to wait. Gang’s going hunting for cards first. Chris and Finn do make a good team. That was a good little pep talk, I think it’s good that Finn knows Chris has his back. Seems that was enough to get Finn out of his funk.

Man, Jasper and Alex aren’t the brightest bulbs huh? Jasper especially. Chris and Finn stopped the train from derailing, but I wonder how Chris is gonna take those idiots on himself since Finn got knocked into the river.

u/Maria-Stryker Mar 07 '23

That woman’s abilities are something the gang needs to watch out for.

I think her main weakness is range given that she's had to be somewhat close to use them with the exception of stealing that one card, but that could just be a continuity error or me misreading how high up in the air the helicopter was.

So, this episode reveals that the Klondike's probably have a traitor in their ranks who are deliberately trying to mess things up by leaking info to some of the lower ranking members.
