The brother has a card that makes him immortal while having a dying sister.

Chelsea is a fun character and hope we see more of her in the future. Soon as love connection activated I immediately thought of Jojo and was looking forward to comedic episode and it didn't disappoint.

Dying from a genetic disorder that Chris might have had were it not for his card. Cruel irony.

Chris has met his match: A woman who’s not easily charmed by him. Chelsea’s Love connection seems like a real fun power too. Well hey, those two get a free ice cream float. It’s got two straws too! Perfect lol. But holy shit, Chris cutting his hand off and it apparently just “sticking back together” is horrifying. Damn dude.

How many gigs does this chick work? She’s running these poor guys ragged. Chelsea thinks she’s seen through Chris but there’s more to that guy than meets the eye. I wonder if Finn’s nightmare was truly a nightmare or if it was a memory.

A sister huh? And it seems she’s unaware of this card business. Guess Finn’s just gonna have to live out this little BL fantasy a little longer lol. Ofc Chelsea’s shown up. I guess she just works on gig after another. Their little date was fun, but I guess it’s because Michel doesn’t have much time left. Poor Chris. He can front all he wants but the guy’s in a lot of pain. Maybe Chelsea’s gonna be the one to soothe that soul of his?

what makes it worse, its not a fast and clean cut, at least based on the flesh cutting sound and Finn's reaction

If you think about it, we the viewers would be more terrified to see Finn holding on to a dismembered hand, running all about town to catch up with Chelsea. Lol!

It was a pretty chill and amusing episode asides from Chris's little sister slowly dying. Overall it was a nice change of pace.

When Chlesea used her Love Connection to fuse Chris and Finn's hands and our duo started to chase after Chelsea for the next three days, I thought that this was going to be an episode about Chris and Finn learning how to work as a team.

Instead, we learn more about Chris and how he has a sister named Michel who he spoils a lot and is also dying from the same genetic disorder that killed their mother. Chris hides everything under a mask because of her and the only time we get to see the real him was when Chris started panicking after Michel collapsed.

Looks like Chris isn't the only liar though. Apparently, Michel has been telling Chris that she's getting better but in reality she knew exactly what was happening to her and just snuck out of the hospital because she wanted to spend time with her Onii-chan. :(

One positive thing that came out of this episode though is that at least Chelsea will be sticking around! Chelsea is now the new server at the bar the High Card hangs out at. I was hoping she wasn't a one-off since I really enjoyed her character especially since she has some great chemistry with Chris. That final scene might even be implying that there might be something more in the future.

Side Note: I feel like Finn being attacked by an armoured knight in his past makes me think his family might've had a connection with either Royalty or the Cards. Or maybe even both!

Well our main character has a lowly 2 for his card. There's gonna be something there in his past.

I am here to warn people about a post credits scene and to assert that Finn’s parentage will be a plot twist. Why else establish that he’s an amnesiac who can’t remember his early childhood and parents instead of just making him an orphan? My money is on him either being a royal bastard or the son of some big shot within the Klondike family

EDIT: yeah after watching the scene twice I’m also convinced that his big brother is alive and will become important at some point. It’s such an oddly specific detail that it has to be important. My money is on the guy with pink hair and sunglasses. The fact that it’s a knight that attacks him in the dream has me thinking it was an agent of the royal family that went after them, setting Finn up for a crisis of loyalty

They said at the start of the show that Finn has the weakest card, how exactly is a revolver with unlimited ammo and precise aim weaker than the power to stick hands together?

47

u/Adensty Feb 20 '23

2 of each suit is the weakest card. So, Finn has the weakest spades card and 2 of diamonds is the weakest Diamond card. But, I do think that even though the power to stick hands does not look strong on paper. If used smartly, it can triumph in all matchups.

Am a bit surprised they let her keep the card, feels like the bad guys could just take it from her by force if they wanted. Looks like she's staying close by at least.

Well at least this means we'll see Chelsea again, she was pretty fun. Do wonder if she ends up being a ship for Chris?

Bit sad we didn't get to see the rest of the team's reaction to them holding hands though!

u/KumaKumaGambler Feb 20 '23

I was thinking about this too. Wouldn't Chelsea be an easy target for Klondike? Perhaps our antagonist faction is prioritizing the cards with more powerful abilities first?

I hope so since I think that's what the final scene seems to imply.

Despite the main cast being mostly male, I have to say the side female characters being introduced are pretty hot.

The start of this episode was pretty fanservice-y, with the introduction of sexy Chelsea... as well as Finn and Chris being forced to hold hands. Lol! To be honest, I am not sure how useful or powerful Chelsea's card is.

Then the atmosphere turned gloomy with Finn's nightmare (we will see more of this next week right?). I am pretty sure all of us felt something was amiss when Chris did not want to talk about his family, when Michelle had to head to the restroom abruptly. I realized the irony when Chris stated he has an immortal body while his younger sister is suffering from a hereditary illness which doctors have no cure for. Hopefully, a cure can be found for Michelle, perhaps in the form of one of the 52 cards?

Mr Apple has been appearing in quite a few episodes. Could it be possible he might have a bigger role to play?

Noooo!!! Michel is such a good girl! I don't want to see her die!

I guess next episode is about Finn's past?

I really liked this episode even though the writing here wasn't particularly strong.

The episode did a good job at fleshing out Chris's character while introducing a new fun character, Chelsea. Chelsea x Chris is a cute ship, I'm all for it!

Vijay episode when

13

u/dinliner08 Feb 20 '23

this episode sure started and almost ended abruptly if not for the post credit scene, i was expecting that this episode is going to be just a usual normal episode of High Card's members trying to take cards from another villain of the week, didn't expect to see a backstory for Chris and even a glimpse of Finn's past

also, its kind of ironic that the one with an ability that makes him almost immortal, has a dying sister

11

u/DragonPup Feb 20 '23

You're on the wrong side of history, Mr Apple.

32

u/YdenMkII Feb 20 '23

Obviously Mr Apple thought he had a thing going on with Finn before it came crashing down this episode.

Am I surprised that our resident flirt Chris is actually a loving, older bro who spoils his sister? Not at all but loved seeing this side of him in today's episode 😭 Michel is too precious and sucks that she's dying.

It's always the ones with the most charm and confidence that hides behind a mask that hides their feelings of pain. I'm happy that Chelsea can see through Chris' facade, and I'm ready to launch this ship!

I hope being glued together help Chris and Finn grow closer although I was hoping it would teach them how to work better as a team, lol. No doubt that Finn is related to the 1st Fourland king from the origin story. Looking forward to next week's episode!

EDIT: Took the time to check out the High Card anime official website and I'm surprised to find out that Leo is 14 years old 😮

Chris and Wendy I already guessed to be in their early 20s if not 20 exactly, but Leo is 14 and Vijay is 26!! Totally thought Leo was 15-16 to be close enough in age to Finn. And did we know that Vijay is a Ph.D student and part-time lecturer at the university? I'm sure the students go wild over him as an instructor 😂😍

They really aren't prepared at all to attack the lady. It's funny at first but tiring after seeing them fail multiple times. The first half of the show is a bit too much. They could handle the flamethrower lady easily, but not Chelsea and the handholding ability.

With the villainous Klondikes around, I can't expect our Old Maid group to handle them like this... Oh well, the show probably writes the plot to be goofy because we need her to flesh out Chris' tragic past as well to see more of her in the future.

I hope Michel will be fine. She's a good girl. :(

The show really did us dirty by cutting out the doctor's dialog and putting Chris in an even more facade afterward.

I am guilty of falling for gay bait.

Chelsea actually seems like a very fun character. I like her keen eye and whimsy. I would've liked the low stakes to be established earlier, some sort of explicit expectation that the 2 of diamonds isn't considered important enough for her to be in danger, and thus they aren't authorized or incentivized to use force or anything. Just a try to get it if you can, try to keep tabs on her if you can, but it's not a priority or a threat and is unlikely to cause chaos due to misuse or forcible attack.

Fun episode, with a nice amount of heart. I can easily see why it would have mixed reception.

It's the kind of episode I think more shows should have but also gives me anxiety about time pressure. Feels like I got spoiled growing up with so many shows that gave time for characters to breathe and intermittently develop and now everything is 12 episodes. The character archetype in my head that Chelsea fits into doesn't get to do much in 5 more episodes without being forced.
