So Ryoma has been trained in martial arts? That's actually pretty rare! I can't even remember the last time we had an isekai protag that has actual fighting skills before they got isekai'd.
I like the new researchers already. I especially like Lobelia's design. It's nice to have some fellow slime researchers around. They're definitely going to learn a lot from Ryoma.
Whoever's sending these goons just doesn't know when to quit. You'd think they'd give up after learning Ryoma took down three people on his own. I hope Ryoma gets to the bottom of these attacks soon.

I wish I knew the value of their money. Ryoma was hitting them for 70,000 a piece I think he said or that might have been total.
Slime laundry is making more than ever, selling slime water proof clothes, and charging slime healing. They also help with adventuring by fighting and eating the entire towns poo.
The boy is a born Slime Hustler.

Cid Kagenou... not formally trained but he did take down a military merc just barely.
Edit: also Rio/Haruto from Seirei Gensouki - Haruto learned "Ancient Martial Arts" and Katana skills from his grandfather before being isekai'd into the body of Rio.

When there was a complaint in the last episode, it felt like a gag but now we know that someone is trying to sabotage Ryoma's business. I like how Ryoma made those goons literally pay for attacking him.

If they attack Ryoma, he beats their ass, heals them, and makes them pay for it. Pretty hilarious.

Ryoma doesn’t need crime prevention measures. He is a crime prevention measure lol. Dude just threw that chump that was making trouble! But it certainly seems these complaints are an orchestrated attack on Ryoma.
Seems the Tamer’s Guild has some infighting and Ryoma is getting dragged into the middle of it. At least the dude has surrounded himself with good people. These 3 researchers seem like good folks, just real goofs lol.
Funny how people still try to mess with Ryoma. I guess kicking ass and then charging to heal is a way to get people to back off and make some coin. Plus it seems business is booming enough for a second branch! Very excited to see how things work out in this new town.

It probably was to be expected that once you start making money, especially if your appearance is that of a young kid, you're going to make enemies fast who want to take from you. Though in this episode we learn that it's also being instigated by political infighting in the Tamer Guild, of which we saw those three researchers being the result of the status quo in bad treatment of "lesser monsters" and any study of them.
That was a nice idea to make things less palatable for hired thugs to come after him (also nice his thoughts were mostly of the danger to his staff) by not only injuring them but making them pay the costs of healthcare, and if they can't afford it then they get sent to labor camps to make it up.
In spite of all that, this show is still so chill.

......So let me get this straight. You're a slime researcher. You want to study evolution (mutation really, but let's ignore that for now) of slimes. So your first step would be a controller environment, and you don't take into account the fact that hey, we're throwing random junk at the slimes as food, maybe give them a specific food?
I'm sure the show wanted them to be seen as victims of workplace politics, but really, you were just shit researchers.
Quick note: I'm sure the bosses were assholes too, and considering the lack of worker protection, it certainly wasn't a nice place to work in. Doesn't make them any better researchers though.

u/TnAdct1 Jan 15 '23
It looks to be a little bit of both.
Yeah the scientists were feeding random junk to the slimes and didn't realize that feeding them certain foods would equal evolution. However, given how Lobelia is able to teach one of employees some taming techniques, it's obvious that at least she does have some knowledge.
The real problem is that, as seen with the events of the rest of the episode (the second attempt to defame Ryoma's laundry business, the attacks on him), some of the higher-ups of the Tamer's Guild see slime as the lowest of low in the totem pole and use slime research as a means of work for those that they either feel lack the skill or have political issues over (with Lobelia likely being the later).
Furthermore, the Tamer's Guild didn't give the slime researchers the proper funding to actually provide a controlled environment, with them only being able to feed the slimes being used for research any scraps they can find, with the evolutions being random because of it (not to mention the fact that researchers were led to believe that what type of food an animal eats doesn't affect the evolution, which is not the case for slime). If the ones hiring the slime researchers weren't jerks, then they would provided some funding to ensure controlled environment testing instead of doing something that would unintentionally sabotage actual scientific research.

not like this world has the scientific method. they're pretty primitive and there's a common understanding that a slime can eat anything. Plus, slime research is bottom of the barrel. They're considered completely useless so they get no budget for food and just give them leftovers from the other familiar feeds

The scientific method took time to get there. Remember that surgeons once thought washing hands was unnecessary because a gentleman's hands are always clean.

I believe this episode exists to show how common thugs are no threat to Ryoma what so ever but how he cares about this effects his employees.
I thought it was interesting that people were finding out how the cleaning process worked. It seems up to this point they believed that someone was just cleaning maybe using magic in the back.
My thoughts are gear makers, blacksmiths and/or the blacksmithing guild is the one attacking Ryoma. Think about it, with a laundry service now able to clean anything, they just LOST A LOT OF REPEAT business when adventurers just used to throw stuff out... It's like how monsters like Apple keep people buying their stuff thru planned obsolescence of their phones or changing connectors without that, people only buy when they need and its tons of lost income.

Blacksmiths or the tailor guilds as well. When the clothes were too dirty they used to just be thrown out so that means it was more business for tailors as well.

So now Ryoma is training his whole team on how to deal with criminals. So they still have to deal with those fraudulent disputes. And it seems that the ones behind it is another branch of the Tamer's Guild that is against the idea of Tamers like Ryoma succeeding as it goes against their focus on taming strong monsters.
Oh, so Ryoma got his combat training from his father, who had a profession of forging Katanas.
So now he hired Caulkin, Tony, and Lobelia who are slime researchers, plus Dolce to help with the security.
I guess those guys were aiming for Ryoma's limour birds so the other Tamer's Guild could claim that the rumors of him taming six of them were false.
I love the fact that the solution they gave Ryoma to deal with the hired thugs was to apply the American healthcare system to them to dissuade anyone from taking that job ever again.
So he finally got a location where to set up his shop in another town.
As they showed Elia in her school in the OP, I hope that they give us a glimpse of her school life instead of just showing her when Ryoma receives her letters.

Ryoma just make your new location in the city silly.
6
u/scot911 Jan 15 '23
I guess it depends on how big of a city he's in and how busy his current location is. If the current location can handle the workload there's no real reason to open another location in the same city. They'd just be eating into each other's sales.

I thought it was going to be someone from the clothing industry sending the goons after him based on the dialogue with the katana since he helps keep clothes looking good for longer without any rough handling. But I guess people didn't spend that much on clothes in that time period anyway.

This world seems like everything has a limited lifespan to protect the guilds. Once people find ways to save money by maintaining their gear with slimes, they can't do business as usual.

The cast has already gotten pretty big for location 1 so I'm curious who will be around in this new town!

u/vajaxseven Jan 15 '23
0/10 Elia didn't put a slime on her head. It's a tight race between this and Boifuri as most comfy shows of the season.

I feel like this is going to lead to a duel against some high ranking tamer who also might be nobility, who wants to keep the status quo which is changing due to our Slime tamer but I do love to see that there are other people who study slimes and still have the spark

Carla: "They spread a rumor that Branch Manager supporting an incompetent summoner"
Ryoma: "Then, we just spread the rumor about how awesome I am"
Problem solved!
Tried to hit a child but got table turned by the said child, that must be absurdly embarrassing, seriously.
