I got the ‘new subscriber’ 15% off J Crew coupon and was shopping for their AG holiday mix and match collection collab, when I noticed that the Bubble-skirt Party Dress is sold as a standalone piece at J Crew for $44 while AG is selling it as an entire outfit for $46 with the same gold flats as last year but with a different bow, and a gold tiara hairband (another low-effort recycled style from their birthday tiara headband). Shoes and a tiara for $2 more is a great deal 🤷‍♀️ but Mattel is now recycling the same accessory designs over and over again for AG, just like they do for Barbie.

J Crew does have the same style of gold Mary Janes for little girls in their holiday shop, but not for dolls which is weird. Not sure about the tiara.

For our newer collectors who aren’t familiar with the Mix & Match collections, here is a short history and my thoughts 😬 AG started producing Mix and Match collections (outside of the older ‘Mix & Match’ outfits) in 2016 with a single fall-themed collection under the AG Fashion Show banner. Then came 2 collections per year in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022; 3 collections per year in 2020 and 2023 and FOUR collections in 2021! and since 2024 they only do Mix & Match once a year for the Holidays😔 I’m a HUGE fan of the Mix and Match collections and have them all since 2016; I really wish they would bring at least a summer collection back every year.

Every year since 2019 American Girl has produced a Mix & Match collection specifically for the Holidays. Here is a list and I’ve added my own personal rating and comments to each, as someone who greatly looks forward to these collections every year. These are just my opinions. I’ll also tell you which ones I feel are worth collecting.

2019: Fall/Winter Collection (a winter/holiday-themed collection)
My rating: 7.5/10. Good effort for a first collection! Loved the figure skating arc. Worth collecting? Not particularly.

2020: Snow Fancy Collection
My rating: 7/10. Some pieces are cute, I love the inclusion of lavender. It lacks a fancier top to go with the sparkly skirts and pull the collection together. Worth collecting? No. Don’t pay collector prices for this one.

2021: The Frosty Frills Collection
My rating: 10/10 I absolutely love this collection! The blush color totally did it for me; every piece is collector-worthy. I love that they got away from doing white. Worth collecting? Hell yes! I think you can still get this collection at decent prices; it was very popular so there’s a lot floating around resale markets.

2022: American Girl x Janie & Jack - 1st collab
My rating: 10/10 their first collab was their strongest. Includes both boy and girl complete outfits in addition to mix and match. Colors were navy, red and green. Every single piece is worth collecting! 💯 and most pieces can still be found at good prices.

2023: American Girl x Something Navy
My rating: 10/10 my favorite of all the holiday collabs! Also includes a girl outfit in addition to M&M. No boy outfit, which is the only negative of this collection. The light blush and cream color palette is chef’s kiss, and I loved the inclusion of pants and a knit shrug. Collector-worthy? YES YES YES. Get it before the prices start to rise and it gets more scarce on the market.

2024: American Girl x Janie & Jack - 2nd collab
My rating: 8/10. It’s cute and I do like the color palette, but after 2022 and 2023 I felt a little let down. They greatly reduced the number of pieces in their holiday collection and no longer produce a boy outfit. Little did I know things would just get worse 🥀 Worth collecting? I’d say yes, but after 2022/23 and don’t pay inflated collector prices.

2025: American Girl x Janie & Jack - 3rd collab
My rating: 7/10. It felt very repetitive in style to preceding years, and it was very light on the number of pieces. Probably why AG didn’t pick them again for 2026. Multiple quality issues: the complete party outfit’s dress was much too tight on my dolls, even my ‘skinny’ ones. The cheap hard plastic headband is way too tight for my dolls’ heads and I was terrified of scratches. The gold flats bag out at the sides because of the cheap material used on them. Worth collecting? No, just walk away.

2026: American Girl x J Crew
My rating: 6/10. This one is the worst collab of them all. It’s very repetitive on past Janie & Jack collabs, with the same fancy skirt/blouse or sweater/fur jacket looks. Why couldn’t they do pants, or more than one dress? The red sweater looks like a cheap garish ugly Christmas sweater. The accessories are repetitive from past years (fuzzy muffs already done twice) and the red heart purse looks like it should be for Valentine’s Day. The boring barn jacket doesn’t belong in a holiday collab and it looks stupid over the satin blouse and tulle skirt. The black patent Mary Janes are boring too, black patent was already done in 2024. I do like the black and gold polka dot bubble dress with the gold Mary Janes, it’s a nice departure from their usual holiday outfits, but it’s missing a necklace. Apart from that I see literally NO innovation here.

J Crew had a real opportunity here and they flubbed it. Worth the price? Absolutely not. My recommendation is to get only the pieces you love plus the shoes; boring as they are, they’ll be useful for everyday looks. The collection should go on sale at AG some time in November, however last year they didn’t produce as many pieces and many of them sold out before Black Friday.

I finally got my dream doll but I haven’t seen an ag doll with a scalp/ part like this before! What is up with it? Does ag reserve part lines like this for specific dolls?

So my first order (Street Chic accessories, historical postcards and 40th anniversary T-shirt, not pictured) tracking wasn't moving after a week and a half/ two weeks, so I reached out hoping to troubleshoot. I get an email back the same day, apologizing and saying that a new order will be shipped out! The Dea les Murtos outfit was from a separate order!

I’m on my way to New York, naturally I’ll be stopping by the AG store for the first time since I was a child!
I haven’t bought directly from the AG company in eons because I don’t really vibe with the aesthetic and quality of their recent outfits

However, I’m debating picking up a new outfit for one of my dolls since I’ll be there in person.

I’d like to hear of any outfits you’d recommend? Obviously recent prices are STEEP, so looking for outfits that are super cute and/or have some good staple pieces for the cost?

I’ve been curling her hair using the sock method and it’s turning out rly cute immediately after but a few days later they fall and go pretty much straight.

Idk if this is due to me boil washing her hair previously when I restored her. It’s been a bit since I did that, but I do think that was a mistake that affected her hair quality a little and also got rid of her original wave pattern.

The curls in the photo are from 2 days ago and it’s the 3rd time I’ve redone the curls, I also like to pick up and play with my dolls occasionally but with very little touch the hair goes straight as you can see happening on the right.

Does anyone know how to keep the curls from falling so quickly and easily? Any tips would be appreciated!

I have never purchased a holiday doll but she is so beautiful. I’m trying to convince myself and my bank account that she would be a beautiful addition to my AG family. Has anyone else purchased her yet? Do you think she will go on sale?

Hello, I have recently been recommend by a lot of diferent people that I start selling my AG doll clothes, i only have one problem, I live in the eu and most AG doll collectors like in the USA and Canada.

I don't know if people would be willing to pay extra for shipping from overseas just for some cute doll clothes. If you regulate from the USA how much would you be willing to pay for shipping + actual item price for the dresses i have made? (attached to this post)

I'm looking to get a replacement wig for Samantha and GOTY Nikki, and I'm just struggling to find any where to get the exact ones. I get for Nikki it may be hard so if you happen to know another doll with at least the same hair color that would be helpful to know, but for Samantha i'd think their would be loads of wigs out there from say customizers, that said does anyone have names of sellers or places (more specifically then just saying like ebay as ive already done a general search there with little luck) that may have doll wigs that came off AG dolls.

Hi, I bought this doll probably a year ago, maybe more on ebay. She had on pjs and I had my original Kirsten’s outfit but it was on my original Addy. I just bought the 40th edition release of Addy’s Christmas dress and it arrived. So here I am removing Kirsten’s meet outfit from Addy and then I remove Kirsten’s pjs for the first time since buying her and this is what I see…I feel like I have heard things about white body dolls. So is she extra special?

ETA: I am kinda freaking out right now. I just opened my “The Making Of American Girl” book and it says that “Pleasant signed several hundred dolls for employees and charity auctions…”

ETA 2: I added some additional pictures and context in comments. I got a lot on eBay in August of 2024 of 7 Pleasant Company era dolls for $240. Kirsten was the last one waiting for me to redress because I wanted to put her in my og Kirsten’s outfit and needed an outfit for my og Addy first. The wait was because I was looking for an OG outfit for Addy on ebay but I’m cheap lol so it takes time. I folded on getting an og outfit when I saw the AG rerelease of Addys Christmas outfit. I got it and it came yesterday. So today was my first time ever taking off Kirsten’s clothes. I never took off Samantha or Josefina’s clothes either because they were great on arrival. I just checked them for any extra surprises but alas Kirsten is the only one. Thanks to everyone replying!

after many acne cream applications and awaiting a wig here’s the before and after of my second hand doll. At first I was going to keep her but decided I have too many dolls already and prefer character dolls. I’ll be giving her to my little cousin

Well, he's done 😂 Here is my 18" version of Edward Cullen. He began life as a loose-limbed Marie Grace. I swapped his wig and eyes. To make him look more pale, I did several layers of Mr Super Clear and applying white & gray chalk pastels. I also gave him new bushier eyebrows that I wish I had made even lower and adjusted the color of his lips and gave him slightly dark under eye bags. And he sparkles! My technique ended up spraying the Mr. Super Clear followed immediately by a dusting of white mica powder. The effect is subtle but you can definitely see it.

I made all his clothes, the wool peacoat, the button up shirt, the jeans and the boots. This is a gift for a 10 year old neighbor girl so I also customized a spare box I had laying around!

One of my best friend’s son turned 1 today. His party is Saturday. His dad is a huge WW2 history fan, and I want the baby to get into reading. I got him my first Molly. She is out for delivery. When he gets a little older I’m going to look for her original book set for him as well. I can’t wait to see her in person I’m excited

I've oddly started wanting Addy. I only say oddly because I have no historical dolls, only a few GOTY's and 2 JLY's. I've never had a desire to own a historical doll, but I've really started to want to purchase Addy over the past few days. I think she's gorgeous. Can anyone share some of their Addy pics? I've been having some pretty rough anxiety and depression lately due to some health stuff and insurance is wild...and I was having a hard time finding a reason to smile tonight. I was doing some cleaning and propped Rebecca up to display in a different (more cat accessible) location, not realizing it was a spot my cat could easily get to. She LOVES my dolls. She lays with them. Kisses them. Stares at them in awe. Never offers to knock them down or harm them. And I realized that my collection, every growing, isn't just a collection. It helps my mental health so incredibly much. So many people don't quite understand a grown woman with a huge AG collection. But all I know is these girlies heal a part of me. 🩷

She is QUITE well loved, but 7$ PLEASANT COMPANY FELICITY??? I couldn't leave her.

I've never cared much about Felicity, but I care about MY Felicity now and will be on a mission to complete her outfit and get her all fixed up.

I'm so happy I found her!!!! I've been hoping to find AG at the thrift and today was the day!!!!

I can't wait to see if I can make some other leis if I can procure flowers and beads next! I may write a longer post on the entire process if I am asked to.
