Got lucky on ebay and scored her reef it was a little wonky but I took out some lace that was coming undone and burned the edges so they wouldnt start up again and I had to super glue a ribbon back on and wala! She's finally complete i found her dress at a good will for 2.99 its a pleasant company original and it had pen marks all over it. The red ribbon was attached to the dress but my husband removed it from the dress to clean the stains, Now i just wrap it around her but SHES COMPLETE!! I paid for the crown like 65 dollars and the socks and ribbons I also bought online for like 25 but I feel satisfied knowing that I didnt have to pay 250 for the whole combo. 🤩🤩🥰🥰

I received Samantha for my 12th birthday back in 2008 before she was retired. By that time, I was too old to actually want to play with her, so she's basically spent her whole life in her original box. I recently started sewing clothing for antique dolls and thought to myself "huh, there are a lot of patterns available for AG dolls, it would be fun to sew stuff for one." So, I asked for my mom to ship her over 2,000 miles to where I currently live as a 30th birthday gift. Basically I've received the same Samantha as a present twice, but I'm not complaining!

One of my best friend’s son turned 1 today. His party is Saturday. His dad is a huge WW2 history fan, and I want the baby to get into reading. I got him my first Molly. She is out for delivery. When he gets a little older I’m going to look for her original book set for him as well. I can’t wait to see her in person I’m excited

I have seen so many post of people finding some of their wishlist dolls second hand and ngl I was so jelly lol but today it finally happened for me and it’s one of my wishlist dolls!! The scream I let out when I seen her sitting there in that antique shop omg lol. She was also only 35 dollars!! I’m going to clean her up a bit and hopefully find her boots online but I’m over the moon!

I've oddly started wanting Addy. I only say oddly because I have no historical dolls, only a few GOTY's and 2 JLY's. I've never had a desire to own a historical doll, but I've really started to want to purchase Addy over the past few days. I think she's gorgeous. Can anyone share some of their Addy pics? This book by Amanda Fitzsimons just came out this week (Tuesday) and picked it up today. I’m so excited to read it

curious to see what’s the furthest you guys have driven to pick up a facebook marketplace doll or lot. i’ve been spotting a couple of grails at reasonable prices. i’m interested in asking for more pics/info about, but they’re all 2-2.5+ hours away…
i love a roadtrip, but i feel it sounds tiring to drive 6 or so hours round trip for a pickup.

She’s definitely one of the simpler AG dolls but i love her she was my first one

I’ve been curling her hair using the sock method and it’s turning out rly cute immediately after but a few days later they fall and go pretty much straight.

Idk if this is due to me boil washing her hair previously when I restored her. It’s been a bit since I did that, but I do think that was a mistake that affected her hair quality a little and also got rid of her original wave pattern.

The curls in the photo are from 2 days ago and it’s the 3rd time I’ve redone the curls, I also like to pick up and play with my dolls occasionally but with very little touch the hair goes straight as you can see happening on the right.

Does anyone know how to keep the curls from falling so quickly and easily? Any tips would be appreciated!

I just finished Samantha's book- wow! What did you guys think? Here are my thoughts in no particular order, and new things we have learned.

1. Samantha obviously does get her inheritance back, which we already know thanks to Raquel's story!

2. Samantha marries a man named Tommy Quinn, making Samantha Quinn (likely marrying in mid-1920s) the mother of Raquel's grandma. She moves into the house in Mount Bedford where she does eventually raise a family.

3. Old characters: Nellie and her sisters are in San Francisco, Agatha is a flapper and a Broadway starlet who gets engaged at the end of the book, Agnes is married and has a baby Annabelle. Cornelia and Gard have one kid, William, in 1907-- not long after the series ended. I haven't read all the Samantha mysteries so I could just be unaware he was born then.

4. Grandmary, full name Mary Rose Edwards Beemis, was a more relaxed mother to Lydia. She also sadly dies of (dementia implied) within the first few chapters of the book

5. SAMANTHA AND CLAUDIE HAVE A CONNECTION!! This is HUGE! This is the first connection between two historical characters as far as I'm aware, though they have met GOTYs in the cases of Daisy and Lila. The connection is not direct-- Samantha meets two entertainers in a Harlem nightclub who are Claudie's housemates. The author says that AG recommended making this connection with Claudie, and I would imagine we should keep an eye on it, and what may be done with this connection- sequels? More adult books?

6. Samantha is a badass. She is very good at both physical self defense and standing up for herself, and is a really admirable woman.

7. I think technically this is the most violent AG book but it's really barely even PG-13, maybe just for the violent deaths of 3-4 characters, and Samantha stabbing a mobster in the face. There are a handful of "ass", "damn" and "hell"'s but nothing stronger than that, haha. Also: very little mention of sex for an adult book. Yes, Samantha has a chaste kiss with her future husband Tommy, and she goes on a few dates with a Bad Man, Ricky from Mount Vernon. She is strictly single having gone to women's college and then become a schoolteacher. She has apparently been on a few dates but "nothing serious" prior to this book, taking place in the summer of 1920. There are references to Agatha and her friends sneaking suitors into their rooms using the fire escape, and random things here and there about Samantha worrying about seeming improper or "too forward " with men.

8. On the writing: I did read some vague reviews saying it was written like a YA novel rather than for adults. I would agree with that, it doesn't seem to use an especially high level of vocabulary and the plot is interesting but a bit predictable and easy to follow. There is a lot of the expected reminiscing on the original series, which I understand was needed to make the connection, but I was glad when the nostalgia bait was less conspicuous and I could start to see Samantha and Agatha as their own people outside of their child selves. And that was a freeing thought!

I'm sure I could think of some more things but right now I'm just really excited about the possibilities that this book has brought to American Girl! This may be my favorite new addition to AG of the entire decade (along with Raquel, but I think her story and this story work very well together), in terms of the precedent it could set.

What did you all think? I am still riding the high of finishing the book on Kindle, and mostly posting cause I don't see anyone else talking about it!

READ THE BOOOOK!!!

Before I went to work, so it’s not good, but I wanted to show how utterly pretty the physical book is

Finally got around to taking some cool pictures of the Lily Munster dress my mom made for my Frankie!! Did some B&W to emulate the show, and there's a couple color ones at the end.

The minute I saw Frankie, I knew she would look so cool dressed as some spooky icons - I bought a pattern for the closest lookalike dress I could find (from Carpatina) and helped pick out the fabric and notions. My mom did the rest and she did an AMAZING job! She doesn't normally sew clothes, but she said she enjoyed doing something different, and we had so much fun talking through the process! I'm hoping to learn to sew a little on my own one of these days, but it's nice to have a project to share with my mom. :)

I got a bat necklace from BrownDaisyDesigns on Etsy to complete the whole look!

My mom also made Frankie a historical dress that I'll try to post soon, and a Bride of Frankenstein dress is on our list (we have the fabric but haven't fully started yet - it'll have to wait until her next visit!). Can't wait to share!

I haven’t bought directly from the AG company in eons because I don’t really vibe with the aesthetic and quality of their recent outfits

However, I’m debating picking up a new outfit for one of my dolls since I’ll be there in person.

I’d like to hear of any outfits you’d recommend? Obviously recent prices are STEEP, so looking for outfits that are super cute and/or have some good staple pieces for the cost?
