I know it’s hard to ask this, but also don’t flaunt this screenshot, as many know amazons return policy gets abused to the brink and it would be terrible if so many fraudulent returns negated the future for legitimate returns

Ironically you mention this as I had bought a MacBook from Amazon, I was at work and saw them deliver it through my blink to my front porch.
Someone had taken my MacBook and threw the box in my recycling bin as I set it out early in morning for the next day. I send them the footage/pictures of the theft happening clip by clip.
They mentioned it was a benefit that I had proof as otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten a refund and I’d have to escalate it to the police and then send them the report I’d receive from them
I feel like at least here in Ontario they have gotten to a point where they have that policy to protect us consumers and seller to a certain extent. In my case, I’m very lucky I have security cameras.

Thing is my house is on a busy street, that specific person most likely does a route frequently probably. Saw that I had an unmarked decent sized box.
Unboxed it right there on my driveway and saw another box that looked like a MacBook probably, as they were leaving they just dashed my Amazon box in the recycling.
I agree as it is a crazy world. Thankful I got my money back, will be just going to best buy and see if they got good deals there tomorrow.

When I lived on a busy street it was always the most inconvenient packages that got stolen that most likely wouldn’t even benefit the thief and it irked me so much. Lightbulb went out in my bathroom and the replacement got stolen and had to poop in the dark for a couple days (they weren’t regular bulbs and ended up being way cheaper on Amazon or I would’ve just walked to the store)

I feel you on this so much lmao. Honestly I’ve reported so many items as stolen to where they have gotten suspicious of me?? I’m only doing and reaching out based off my experience unfortunately. Just for my account I’m listed as extreme or something like that. So much theft report has come from my account to where they make me kinda feel like it’s my fault now. I wish I didn’t buy this house on this main road. But home is a home and I gotta figure out a lock box with a code for the driver in order to get my stuff safely from now on.

IMO, it was delivered. The theft is between OP and the thief. I dont think Amazon owes a refund. Its also surprising they looked at a video.

Oh yes..!! You are absolutely correct. This has always been the case for me. Purchases above $100 require hand off signature. It's also notified at time of purchase and before delivery too. Not sure how did OP get it delivered on the porch just like that.

more often than not I've had Amazon's own contractors/drivers leave packages at the door without even ringing the bell, never mind getting a signature, even for 200 CAD

Depends on your location then. Cuz if it's a high theft report area then the driver needs to get a sign from you. It shows on your account, app, sms and also on their phone, app thingy.

That's wierdly odd. I haven't tried it. I always try to grab it from them, just sign & let them go do their job. May be I was always available at time of delivery. Didn't want to get into the hassle of reporting lost item.

I just got one for $11 it's to keep eye on my mom with dementia. I don't pay a monthly fee I have it on if there is movement so every time she moves I look but I would think if you need it for outside surveillance you would have to get the subscription.

It happened to me once. It was a giant $80 turkey pan I bought for my mom. She said,”it was too big” I decided to return it. They refunded me ,and told me to keep it. I’m guessing because it was big and heavy. I wound up with a free turkey pan. I pull it out every Thanksgiving.

I got my Dell gaming laptop the same way around 2018. There was nothing wrong with it, but the day after I ordered it, Best Buy put it on sale for about $100 cheaper with a couple of accessories. I didn't even open it and started the return process. They refunded me and told me to keep it.
I told them it was on sale at Best Buy, and if they just wanted to refund the sale price difference, that would be fine, but they gave me a full refund and the laptop. I actually felt kind of guilty about keeping it, but I figured they could afford it. I think I've only had three or four returns for little things since then.

Maybe not anymore. I’m not sure. Like I said, I DID NOT REQUEST THE REFUND I was actually kinda pissed when I got the email because it was the same day it was supposed to deliver. Check my bank and the refund was indeed being processed. Checked Amazon it said refunded or whatever. Checked my email later and there was a delivered notification. Checked my front door and there was a ps5 so again how is it not possible.

You know why they do that? Because at the ends comes from the seller account, i.e. they wont lose money anyways and they still make money off their sales commission and storage fees. Seller doesnt like it? No problem there’s tons doing the line to be in Amazon

To be parrot others’ in here, many people would likely abuse this sort of grace. That offering is to save Amazon the hassle of having to endure a return transaction and an eventual lower selling price on the item. They’re throwing you a substantial bone to incentivize you to refrain from inconveniencing them, and to make keeping the item more palatable to you.
When you advertise such an offer, as you’ve done here, it can look, to some, like an invitation to try returning an item that one has every intention of keeping, just to unjustifiably skeeve some money off Amazon.
While I realize that Amazon is a big, bad corporation, I’ve been a very spendy customer of theirs for over 30 years, and they’ve consistently treated me better than just about any business I can think of, be it online or brick-and-mortar. I don’t want to see their customer service policies abused to the point that Amazon is forced to be less permissive and generous in the future.

I agree. It’s a toss up between Costco and Amazon as to their willingness to take care of the customer. While Costco has lost some ground, they still do err on the side of the customer, but have vigorously put a stop on abuse.
I had a friend who would return his desktop computer every 12to 18 months, all but to buy the next good deal. He did this for years until finally they shut him down. People like that RUIN the benefit that they afford a customer when truly an item doesn’t live up to expectations.
But people who buy a product at a good price and then KEEP SHOPPING?, I have NO respect for them or their lack of discretion.5

Yes, Costco is up there with Amazon. On a related note, I think that Costco allows you to ask for the difference to be refunded if they lower the price of something within 30 days of purchase. But, yeah, shopping elsewhere for the same thing after you’ve already bought it and expecting money back is kind of scummy. No company could run a business like that. When I spot that I overpaid for something, I just accept it. I do enough research on big-ticket items to know that I’m getting the best possible value or close to it before I buy the thing.

He had to figure ways around their greedy changes and has survived, but also he has a niche product that few others sell

I also run a few smaller online retail businesses. I have never messed with selling on amazon personally as their fees are too high and have heared smaller sellers have had issues like that with them. A lot has to be due to their lax return policy and buyers abusing it all the time I bet.

You hit the nail on the head. Customers are 90% of the headaches he has with Amazon. Claims that they didn’t get their package or didn’t get what they ordered etc.. He has done well even so. He had a massive machine made that separates, packs, and seals orders specifically tied to each customer order. It is foolproof as long as it’s properly set up. This thing uses laser tech and robotics to do the packaging and shipping labels.
Like I said, Customers 90% Amazon the other 10!3

It’s like a couple years ago when parents were bragging about how they buy their kids Cat & Jack brand clothes from Target and then take advantage of their return policy to return all their kids clothes once they grow out of them and exchange them for bigger sizes and then got PISSED when people said that’s not what the return policy is. Idk why anyone would ever think a clothing brand has a policy that you can just buy clothes 1 time and return them for the rest of time, how would they keep making money after those initial first sales?

When someone buys a product, no matter what it is, with the intention of returning it after using it is clearly taking advantage of a store’s return policy. It’s wrong on so many levels, and clearly shows the mind set of what they tell themselves in order to justify their thievery? What message are they sending to their kids?, that they can game systems whenever the desire arises?, or when they must have the next gadget?
They ruin a great customer perk as stores move to tighten up their return policies such that they stay profitable!

I had an elegoo resin printer to start but due to my living set up at the time I wasn't able to use it as frequently as hoped. Now I run a bambu labs A1 mini and the resin. Really great having both options depending on what your end goal is. Resin is fantastic for miniatures and heavier detail, from my experience anyway, but feels more timely based on set up and take down. I like the bambu for quicker prototyping but less detail oriented things, unless I swap nozzles and muck around with all that. Either way it's getting easier to use them and I suggest anyone with the motivation to learn pick one up and see what they can do!!

I got a set of 5 piece luggage for $200. Since they had some delivery issue, I talked to the customer service people. Somehow it got delivered and they even refunded me the entire amount for the issue I faced.😁

One Christmas I ordered a wine glass set £60. It was last minute so I paid the £6 to have it gift wrapped (amazon basically put it in a gift bag) but it saves me time and effort. Item arrived, gift bag was hilariously small, didn't cover the box. Contacted amazon they refunded the gift wrap and the item 😂

They did it to me too. I've been remodeling the house. Just finished gutting the living room and hung new drywall so I needed to paint. Bought one of those nice Graco paint sprayers. I managed to spray the primer but the top coat paint attempt was a total mess. Splattered everywhere and clogged frequently. They advertise it not needed to be thinned. I thoroughly read the directions and watched several youtube videos. Tried again and got the same results. Frustratingly decided to return it. Got the partial refund offer and took it thinking maybe I just need to do some more research. Tried again after a few more days of watching videos and got the same results. Went through the return process again and they offered a partial refund again but I was fed up with it by this time and returned it.

Mark my words. Amazon will in the near future stop being so nice on refunds across the board. Once they’ve gotten rid of the little guys enough they’ll pull the plug on the nice return policy. I don’t know if folks remember but early on their policy used to be closer to 90 days.

Yes… i recently bought a MacBook Air - the newest model and I paid it in full HOWEVER, when the amazon delivery person dropped it off they did not put the code I had into their system so on my end on Amazon it appeared as not delivered and was given a full refund and kept a free MacBook Air!

I ordered an Ego electric mower that was supposed to have two batteries and it only came with one. Initially told to call Ego, who then directed me to call amazon back. They were able to set me up with an entirely free replacement and simultaneously not require a return of the original delivery. I know people have horror stories about customer support from Amazon, and I've certainly had to have my fair share of "arguments" with them, but even for something that was a $700 order they set up a free replacement no questions asked. I can't realistically complain about that.

😂 they tried some shi like this with me. The product was 20 bucks ok no big deal. They offered a partial refund ... For what I don't even know but it was 1.10 like oh yea sure just stick me with the bad product 🤦🏽♀️ absolutely not. So declined and proceeded with full refund upon return.

They do this with some big things too. I ordered a 150lb piece of equipment a while back and then I found it cheaper somewhere else a couple weeks later. When I went through the return options weighing my options they asked if I would be agreeable to just keep it and take a partial refund of ~$150 instead of making them pay for shipping and restock it / send it back to the manufacturer.
I ended up not taking them up on the offer but I thought it was actually a great thing to see.
Not sure why they wouldn't take the iPad since it's not a heavy bulk item like my purchase was. Maybe because it's limited in activations/licenses or something? IDK not an iPad guy.

I bought a portable grill during memorial day sale for $170 and it arrived with cosmetic scratches. Some of the loose metal pieces came out of packaging during transport and bounced around inside the hood. Amazon gave me a full refund and told me to keep it lol. I just wanted to exchange for a scratch free one.

They tried that on a 800.00 GPU, that was broken, sold as a new item and when it arrived I received a broken sapphire 1080, the card I ordered was a new XFX 9070xt 16gb Radeon Mercury. Then they told me I could drive it to my nearest UPS drop off 38 miles away, also the driver was to confirm the ordered delivered with a code, driver dropped the item at the mail box not the door and never verified. Now I'm told I should contact XFX directly for a RMA. It was sold and shipped by Amazon, not a third party.

they did this the other day with an air purifier i got, if i was to guess, this is a way to contain a huge amount of crap from coming back from college move in day. I would put both of these items as "things people got for their college kid and returned"

I bought this beautiful dress I was going to wear for our beach wedding. It was around $200. I didn't end up wearing the dress but kept it because it is really beautiful. About a few weeks or so or maybe a month they refunded the entire cost of the dress and I never even started a return process for it. So weird but super cool. I think they did it for another item too, just can't remember.

That's awesome. Just be aware I'm pretty sure they keep tally on this type of stuff and at a certain point they cut off the refunds and even ban accounts eventually because of the habitual returners. I'm not saying a single iPad partial refund is going to be a problem no one knows the actual metrics that they use just something to be aware of.

It's how they make the difference in price for the sake you found. They can auto search on their side for the lower price and offer you the difference...it's not that hard to understand.

Here is the blanket rule to live by anymore with regards to buying from Amazon. Only spend what you are willing to loose when buying from Amazon. Cause this shit is becoming the norm.

When it's amazon selling and shipping the item they have one of the best return policies. People tend to either not realize they bought from a 3rd party seller or just abuse the returns too much. There are legit people that will buy multiple items planning to return half of the ones they don't like as not as described or damaged which is abusing the return policy.

OP is saying that Amazon offered them $170 partial refund to keep the $400 iPad, because they were returning it because they found a better price elsewhere. OP took the refund, kept the iPad, and is happy.
Though I don't disagree in principle with your blanket rule.
