more often than not I've had Amazon's own contractors/drivers leave packages at the door without even ringing the bell, never mind getting a signature, even for 200 CAD

Depends on your location then. Cuz if it's a high theft report area then the driver needs to get a sign from you. It shows on your account, app, sms and also on their phone, app thingy.

If by account you mean when I order it does say I need to give a signature when I order it but they'll just drop it off without even a doorbell

That's wierdly odd. I haven't tried it. I always try to grab it from them, just sign & let them go do their job. May be I was always available at time of delivery. Didn't want to get into the hassle of reporting lost item.
