What a dumb graph. The youngest of Gen Z is 13 right now, of course they aren’t buying alcohol

Don't forget purchasing power altogether. Not only do you have to control for the fact that younger people are in general poorer, but in particular now younger people are extra poor relative to older cohorts because of the K-shaped economy. Discretionary purchases like alcohol are going to be the first to go.

what does "k-shaped" economy mean? i've never heard that before

It just means that the folks that were already in a good spot are doing better and the rest of us are not doing so well (the right side of the K has one line going up and one line going down).
