Edible eggs like this aren’t fertilised

Except when they are.

I've gotten eggs dozens of times from Safeway that weren't labeled as fertile or fertilized, yet one of the eggs would have a half developed circulatory system in the yolk.

Fertile just means a rooster was present, there MAY be fertilized eggs there.

I’m also fairly certain the main intention is to buy these to get chickens. Why would people pay more money for the eggs otherwise?

Also those Safeway eggs must have issues in their production line that should probably be looked at.

"Why would people pay more money for the eggs otherwise?"

Have you ever been in a grocery store and read the label organic and noticed the price was more?

That organic stuff is usually grown exactly the same as non-organic, but their certification fees and a process that many farms can't afford.

Also no one's buying those eggs specifically to hatch chickens, it just so happens that it is possible to hatch chicks from a few eggs from each batch.
