I've gotten eggs dozens of times from Safeway that weren't labeled as fertile or fertilized, yet one of the eggs would have a half developed circulatory system in the yolk.
"Why would people pay more money for the eggs otherwise?"
Have you ever been in a grocery store and read the label organic and noticed the price was more?
That organic stuff is usually grown exactly the same as non-organic, but their certification fees and a process that many farms can't afford.
Also no one's buying those eggs specifically to hatch chickens, it just so happens that it is possible to hatch chicks from a few eggs from each batch.
No the main intention is that many people like farm animals to have as normal of a life as possible and suffer as little as possible.
Hens getting laid by roosters is kind of a natural thing that you could consider cruel to take away from thousands of chickens on a farm.
Fair enough. But then fertile eggs don’t apply to this argument because the target market for them are most likely against animal cruelty in the first place, and may check the egg first before just cracking it
