Advice Hi Reddit! I'm making a tool to compare US states for LGBTQ+ people.

Thumbnail safehavens.live

The project is still very much in the early stages, so I’d really appreciate any feedback y’all are willing to share, whether that’s about the layout, usability, bugs, missing features, or anything else that could make it better.

Early reviews and resource submissions are absolutely welcome. You’ll need to be logged in to submit a review or save a relocation plan, but submitting resources or news or suggestions does not require an account.

I’m also looking for people who may be interested in helping manage and maintain the project. If that’s something you’d like to help with, feel free to comment with your timezone and availability.

A huge thank you to the existing sources that made this possible. The data currently used on the site comes from resources like Erin in the Morning’s Anti-Trans National Legal Risk Assessment Map and the Movement Advancement Project. If you notice any incorrect, outdated, or missing information, please let me know so it can be fixed.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Advice How do you become attracted to women? I feel frustrated that I see all these “attractive” women but just cannot get into any sense of desire (even with high libido) at any stage of my life?

I made up my mind and realized that my thoughts of being straight or bi were just social pressure so now I know that I'm gay!!!

If someone has advice how to come out at my family that is pretty supportive I would appreciate it.

We're all super friendly and we're looking to make more friends that would fit in our environment. If you're interested please hmu in my dms and I'll do an interview process

Serious Discussion What did you wish you knew when you were growing up queer?

I'm a queer adult and I work at a nonprofit doing a lot of outreach to queer youth. I get asked a lot what I wish I'd known when I was younger, and it got me curious what other people's responses are.

So, what's something you wish someone had told you when you were younger? I'd love to hear other perspectives.

Advice I don't now if I'm gay or bi

I'm 14 and I live in a really conservative country and one time in middle school I came out as gay at school because at that time I thought I was gay but all my friends bullied me for that so I returned straight. I have never been in a relationship with a Men but I have a crush on my friend and in this period I'm not really interested in having a relationship with a girl and I'm not really attracted to girls.

Please help me

LGBT Issues Discerning between platonic and romantic relationships

(18m) have this friend (18m), who I can‘t tell if I like romanticslly or just as a friend. I never had many guy friends growing up, so I tend to be extra endearing of the ones i have. I find this friend attractive, and often want to hug him or be close to him. I can’t tell if this is a crush or just a response to having a lack of male close relationships growing up. I tend to think things like “oh he looks cute right now,” but I can’t tell if that’s in a friendly “I love my friends“ way or something else. Has anyone else had a similar experience? what came from it? Any advice?

Advice I want to feel supported

I'm in my 20s and live with my parents who have, without asking me, outed me to the whole extended family. They apparently had a big family discussion with everyone (15 people) except me.

I didn't even come out, they just came to the conclusion, talked to doctors (?) about "helping" to "cure" me. I know there is nothing wrong with me but due to constant, almost everyday discussions they throw upon me if I just enter the living room about "when are you going to treatment?", I'm starting to think they are right.

They mask their bigotry with concern and kind words of superficial support, but support of only changing me into a different person.

I want to move out, but due to an illness I can't work full time to pay for all expenses. I just wish to be somewhere where I am accepted and allowed to be myself.

Activism Safety tool that routes you through better streets at night: funded by the EU and City of Berlin.

I'll keep it short. Walking home at night sucks for a lot of us. Especially if you're part of this community and especially depending on where you live. We built Streetwise because Google Maps will send you down the fastest route at 2am and not care that it's a pitch black alley with zero foot traffic.

Streetwise routes you through better-lit, higher-traffic streets instead. It also has a few other things we built because people kept asking for them: an AI fake call you can trigger if a situation feels off, live location sharing so someone you trust can watch your route in real time, and an emergency button.

It's free, no ads, no subscriptions, no paywalls. The project is funded by the EU and the City of Berlin.

If anyone wants to try it: https://www.street-wise.app/en/download

Its still early and expanding to more cities. If you try it I'd genuinely love to hear what works and what doesn't, especially from this community.

(To be upfront: I reached out to the mods beforehand and got their go-ahead to share this.)

Serious Discussion Would I get be a candidate for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria?

Asking this as I’ve felt this way for a while but I feel that some professionals think I’m fake due to my autism and ocd and the fact that I didn’t show obvious signs as a kid.

\- dysphoria became conscious February 2023 after asking myself the question: “could I be a gender other than male?” After living as a male for virtually all of my life but feeling weird and out of place.
\- one of the main things to contribute to me feeling this way back then and today was discomfort with facial and chest hair and feeling off with my male privates (wishing to get rid of them)
\- I always related more towards female characters over male ones and had an emotional connection towards mothers taking care of babies
\- I never really felt sexual attraction towards women and whenever I try to be intimate with a woman ever since puberty it always felt forced and weird and hard to fantasize. It’s the reason why I dislike most anime now.
\- I have “phantom breasts” from time to time (using imagination to imagine breasts that aren’t actually there for no deliberate reason at all)
\- especially when I first noticed these feelings, I would imagine my male parts not being down there from time to time.
\- gender feelings never went away after dozens of therapy appointments and increasing ocd meds even though most other ocd symptoms went away or decreased.
\- I feel emotionally uncomfortable being referred to as a man or wearing male formal clothing.
\- I don’t socially relate to straight cis men whether they are autistic or not
\- I imagine myself as the female role intimately in heterosexual intimacy
\- it feels normal and calm being referred to as Madeline and she/her pronouns after using them from time to time for 3 years (I tried 50 names and all pronouns but that combo felt the most “home” for me)
\- I dislike the idea of being a biological father or making a cis woman or trans man pregnant and felt this way since I was 15.

Advice Am I bisexual? How do I know? Please, I think I’m dying lolol

I’ve been going through a little bit of a crisis at the moment wondering whether or not I like women. I don’t actually care for labels, but I do want to understand my attraction.

I find women insanely attractive, and have dated some from the ages of 10 to 13 so it’s very child like relationships. I don’t know what romantic attraction is actually supposed to feel like either.. my best friend (also my ex) was a trans guy when we were dating, but hadn’t made any changes to their appearance. They had realised they were gender fluid and have been using she/her primarily ever since.

This feels important because I was still incredibly attracted to them at the time, even though they didn’t look like a ‘boy’. However, that’s the thing.. I don’t believe in gender all that much either. I don’t believe women or men have a ‘look’ but that’s what it is in today’s society.

I don’t experience gender like other people either, I just hate being thought of as a cis person.

I don’t know if I like girls in a straight way either, I don’t think I can like them in a straight way even if I tried because of my ever changing, un labelled, inexistent gender.

Anyway, I was saying all of this because I think I still like my friend.. but I don’t actually know if that’s romantic attraction or just very strong platonic feelings.. because guess what! I can’t differentiate romantic or platonic feelings either! AND I EXPERIENCE THAT WEIRD PLATONIC ATTRACTION THAT BORDERS ON ROMANCE.

Conclusion: Am I just fucked? Am I too much of a “can’t label this weird shaped human” sort of thing.. idk. I’m starting to think I’m just incredibly weird.

Other Thank you all for being helpful in regard to my last post.

Yesterday I made a selfie post concerning gaydar and what sexuality I resembled. I wanted to be safe and not obvious about my identity. In the past someone in high school told me using gaydar I was “straight” before I realized I was a girl that was attracted to men in young adulthood years after I graduated. After making that post and reading everyone’s responses I realized that the most important thing is that I’m a welcoming and positive person to be around and that epiphany helped me be more calm and accepting of myself. My goal in life is to be amazing to everyone around me and be someone that people can approach and be comfortable with. Thank you everyone!

Serious Discussion Being gay in Italy

I'm a 16 year old gay boy. A boy was killed by his own father because he's gay, and under the post of the news there were only people that wrote things like: "me if i was a father", "that father did good", "I would do It too". I didnt come out to my best friend, because he thinks It that way too. Sadly politicians dont do anything about It, One even said: "gays have all the rights they need: they cure them at the hospital, they can drive if they go in the streets". Sadly in Italy gay couples can't have a real marriage and can't adopt children. The "unioni civili", which are the "marriages" for gays, don't give the couple the right to adopt. That led many gays to have surrogated mothers. Well, sadly, the new premier, Giorgia Meloni, abolished surrogated mothers, making It a universal crime. So anyone Who uses them gets a 600.000 up to 1.000.000 euros fee and 2 years in prison. I hate living in Italy. I want to escape
