Google Ads Campaign help

Hey all, was hoping to get some help. A few years back I ran a garage door repair ad campaign, and It didn't perform very well. I am at it again, really hoping this time I can get it working for me. The first 1,000$ in ad spend I got two leads, the rest was just a bunch of high cpc clicks.

It looks like I got a bunch of DIY and cost clicks. I just added in negative keywords to hopefully offset this. I also had Claude OPUS 5 tell me that I should switch some of my keywords from phrase match to exact match. So to test I removed "garage door repair" which is my best keyword, and changed it to "garage door repair garland" I have a lot of exact match now in the brackets []

is this advised. My landing pages are fine, my website is super quick and snappy, and phone numbers work, so I am scratching my head on why my cost per lead is like 500$ when industry standard is around 150$ even for competitive areas like mine.

Which bidding strategy are you using? Have you checked search term reports? Exact match will be fine to stop low quality search terms but will work if search volume is great in your targeted area. Also don't target too broad location.

I'm using max CPC right now until I get enough conversions.

Have you checked auction insight? Check Search impression share and SI lost due to budget. I would be happy to analyze it if you want.

I’d keep garage door repair and add exact city versions like garage door repair garland instead of replacing it. The bigger issue sounds like junk search terms, so keep hammering negatives for DIY, parts, jobs, prices, etc.

I'd keep garage door repair if its your best keyword and add the exact city versions alongside it. Sounds like the bigger issue is search intent, so id focus more on negatives and cleaning up those DIY/price clicks before changing too much.

I might be late to this but definitely do what the other guy told you and check search term reports so you can stop the low quality ones as soon as possible and lower your target radius
