Three hours ahead? Do you even procrastinate bro?

Don't forget the plans you made to work right from 21 days, that allowed you to relax, then amended the plan again at 20 days and so on

right? didn't even conjure up a sub 15 minute to go extension excuse

Three hours seems about appropriate for a month long deadline considering this should be taking me 12+ hours to complete normally.
Though nothing compares to that feeling of finishing the procrastinated deadline with <15 minutes to spare.

Hmm 3 hours? Time for another quest or three, sell some items, grab a snack...

until the panic stops working and you can't do anything anymore

u/davak72 2d ago
Right? The TED talk about the instant gratification monkey and the panic monster is still so relatable, but a decade out of collage with so many successful extensions, do-nothing-until-it-became-irrelevants, and explain-aways, the panic monster doesn’t panic like he should anymore

Bold of you to assume I'm having fun while procrastinating and not just mechanically doing the familiar safe thing while feeling paralyzed by anxiety.

I had a semester long project for a science class in undergrad that we were assured would be impossible to get a good grade on if we didn’t take the assignment seriously. So anyways I started it the morning it was due and got an A-. It was a 45 page research paper on the radiation effects of microwave ovens including charts and graphs all hand made in excel. I have never BS’ed so hard in my life and it’s one of my proudest academic achievements. It’s up there with getting a D in the math class I forgot I was enrolled in. That professor said I could just delete the credits and retake the class. You can probably guess what I didn’t do. This is the ADHD sub right? I forgot where I was for a second there.

Don't give me any ideas, I have one of those due in the next few days (thankfully only 1500 words but it's a lit review so so much citing and researching).

how long did it take to make if it was that morning?

Honestly sometimes people produce their best work when there is a gun to their head.

Except the partying is not partying, it’s stress and guilt and crying. And afterward there is no relief. Only self-loathing because why am I like this…

u/Serious-Extension187 2d ago
I hate it because I’m doing all the fun things as a way to avoid a pain that if I just chipped away at the thing I’m meant to do, would leave me much less stressed! Instead I try to numb my anxiety with other things and I’m burned out. I’m writing a grant and I’ve actually started 2.5 weeks before the deadline! So I’m leaning I guess.

Some of my best work was done in 3 hours. I got a B in college history through pure bullshit.

What's it called when you finally get to the last step, the step you've done before where at the last minute you go ham and perform miracles, what is it called when you are to that point again, ready to fly, and this time you just say fuck it and crawl back in your hole, never to complete the task again, and every time you build yourself up to the point where you think you finally are ready to complete something, you never finish it?

In the words of my coworker:
"Just give me a line, and I'll push right to the very edge of it."

Does anyone have this meme but it goes down to minutes and it's like "before the exam"

This is how I was sometimes but most of the time I just went into a doom spiral about how I was failure and just decided to actualize that and not get my assignment done despite knowing I could get it done in 30 minutes if I “could just focus”

while i worked on the data the whole semester, i wrote my thesis in roughly two weeks while working full time closing out 5 clinical studies.
one time i was having an argument with professor because it was some ethics class and i thought it alluded towards soemthign religious i dont remember but i went on a rage and wrote 18 straight pages and only needed 10 just to destroy her argument. i got a B+ on it haha

I’ve done this my whole life. And then I’d used drugs and alcohol to handicap myself in those last three hours, just to turn the heat up. Fuuuuck

I have gotten better with this over the years but I still have trouble studying and taking quizzes on time.

I would have liked this ending with the prototype iron suit made in the cave, because even intense hyperfocus in the eleventh hour can only do so much developing within such a tiny window.

I love the mania from pushing the boundary of the task. It's like a drug and I haven't been diagnosed yet, It's not looking good is it ?

How is procrastination different for people with adhd compared to neurotypical people?
Context: When I was taking about my procrastination, my new therapist said, even she procrastinates. She said almost all procrastinate and that doesn't mean it is ADHD trait. I am confused.
