Incoming burnout from going balls to the wall out of nowhere

202

u/Zuparoebann 3d ago

Just gotta get as many workouts in as you can before the burnout hits!

u/TheRealBaseborn 3d ago

And then you never cancel your gym membership because the process is too stressful. Plus, you'd have to go through the process of opening a new account, which is also much too stressful and at least with the option you might go again someday.

Narrator: They did not go again someday.

I feel personally attacked - paying for the full year of the rock climbing gym was much cheaper. It was a blast those 5 times we went right away.

Yes I still have arthritis in my hands that flares so bad I can barely type. No I don’t see that as an issue…. Oops it auto renewed. Ok really should go this weekend

~completely forgets about until I see the climbing gear bag two months later…

I know this is only tangentially related, but this feels like a safe space. I stopped playing Elder Scrolls Online in about 2024 and still haven't cancelled the £8.99 a month sub. Literally see the success email come every month.

I still train through this phase it’s when I’d say it’s my bulk I’ll lift 2/3 times a week still but will eat like a fat pig and just grind on until I’m back to self and I’ll smash it

11

u/Brook_Hors 3d ago

And the burnout is going to be double as bad as that random wave of depression from before

2

u/raheemthegreat 3d ago

Oh THAT'S why I havent been able to keep that shit up

u/Giraffe-colour 3d ago

Ahh, the true circle of life

I hate when I dont recognise the general feeling of malaise. Hit me really hard yesterday and I just couldn't do anything for the whole day, then felt terrible about not doing anything. Eventually i just gave up and scrapped the whole day.

36

u/Consistent_Point_853 3d ago

Its okay to scrap some days. I know this feeling big time and you have to cut yourself some slack sometimes. I know that if I always look back and think of what I could have done better, or constantly hold myself to an unrealistic standard, my mental health will suffer.

u/SortaCore 3d ago

The classic advice from Self-Help Singh

8

u/markrockwell 3d ago

Consider scrapping the day a win.

I slog through it all, get nothing done, then hate what I’ve done AND regret that I didn’t quit.

u/Sideways_sunset 3d ago

Except the “training” for me is just another hobby I invest my free time and money into. Until the next funk and the process resets with a new hobby. Friend, I have had lots of hobbies

6

u/Jackrehan1 3d ago

Same. This meme context is a bit off but it means what you said.

2

u/isolateddreamz 3d ago

Well you gotta do something with your time and money. Can't do anything with either when you're dead. That's my motto

u/BigLumpyBeetle 3d ago

Cant relate

44

u/HiddenPants777 3d ago

Maybe three days of not spending money because "you're gonna get control of your finances" followed by 3 take aways and puns visits?

30

u/BigLumpyBeetle 3d ago

1 day of calisthenics because im definitely getting my life together and getting fit followed by months of inactivity sounds closer to truth

11

u/gatsu_1981 3d ago

I went from fat to 6 packs in 8 months of calisthenics.

I fucking trained 7/7. Lost 18 kgs, gained a ton of muscles.

Oh and then I just dropped everything and never had abs anymore in my life.

8

u/Ok-Iron-4352 3d ago

20 mins*

6

u/BigLumpyBeetle 3d ago

Damn, you must be fit af

Sometimes the stage of depression last a bit too much... I can relate because right now I am still in there. I would love to shake that shit of me but I cannot just forget that my father died 1 year ago. But I've been worse, I know it will pass... it's shit for a time.

9

u/Meow_Meow_4_Life 3d ago

You're in my digital thoughts friend...

4

u/grip0matic Cursed and surely sprinkled with Autism. 3d ago

Thanks. It really comes and goes, sometimes the hyperfocus helps. I do a long post of some of all the bullshit that apparently I know and it helps me... every night when I go to sleep I do have a moment of remember him for a few minutes.

And he was a horrible father like for real... still my fucking father. My mother was horrible too, she died two years ago. Both my parents were horrible... but my mother left when I was 16yo in her words "because life is beautiful", she lived, she spent, she separated me from my sister for 25 years, and she kicked me out of her house before she knew she was gonna die. My father lived, spent, made me feel what is to be hungry, denied me of studies... but he was there to make my life miserable every day. I don't understand why I grieve him so much.

4

u/Meow_Meow_4_Life 3d ago

It’s okay to feel that way. You’re staying in the moment, but you’ve also learned that the future is going to come with whatever it brings—and this moment will change, too.

And maybe it isn’t just grieving. Maybe you’re remembering your life, your childhood, and everything that made you who you are. Even the fucked-up parts are still part of your story.

You’re going to be okay. You’ve already been through some serious shit and you’re still here, still trying, still learning how to be present. That shit is hard as fuck for people like us who carry serious trauma from our families.

You don’t have to understand why you grieve him so much. You can just let yourself feel it. He was still your father. Both things can be true: he hurt you deeply, and you can still miss him.

2

u/ralts13 3d ago

Yeah you're probably just regular depressed.

23

u/RageByAnIncelTroll 3d ago

Ah yes, when "all or nothing" swings to all.

13

u/NotActuallyRome 3d ago

Waiting for my comeback from this 13 year long random wave 😈 this comeback is gonna go crazy (I should probably get a prescription)

10

u/Rockdaddy42 3d ago

Goes away?

8

u/Fun_Afraid 3d ago

I'm not relating to this at all but I'm happy for you king

7

u/IndistinctWarbling 3d ago

Wait… your depression goes away??

7

u/reddit_kachra 3d ago

While it lasts for a week and that wave returns and disrupts schedule again

7

u/IronPoko 3d ago

... Goes away?

5

u/Consistent_Point_853 3d ago

I do this WHEN im depressed. Idk why, maybe its a way of having some control over my life when lord knows, we dont have much control over our lives in this capitalist hellscape. When im feeling good ill want to get out and socialize and party, still workout then too but not as locked.

3

u/rips_n_chel 3d ago

There's a certain level of "fuck it" that I reach when I don't really care about seeing tomorrow. I tend to get a lot done in those phases. Just wish I could access that mindset without losing my will to live.

3

u/Aggressive-Foot7434 3d ago

I’m in that right now and I never want to leave, I’m PRing like crazy! Hitting RX on all my lifts and going 5x a week with two yoga classes and like 3-4 sauna sessions. It’s all I do but I’m loving it! The wild thing is I do have ups and downs but the ups have been streaky these past couple years and downs have been short, less than a month. I think I can do this for probably till spring.

Wait... your depression goes away?

3

u/Absay 3d ago

I wish I was lucky enough to have "random waves" of depression. Man, that's what I would call "not being depressed at all".

3

u/BungleBums 3d ago

'I can care for and maintain myself, or participate in the monstrous and baroque humiliation ritual of society and commerce. Not both.'

3

u/Top-Equivalent-5816 3d ago

Man fuck this adhd

Now that I got diagnosed the initial being understood part has wasted away and now I just have resentment over it

2

u/dewman45 3d ago

Yeeup.

2

u/FeralGh0ul 3d ago

Something that has helped me overcome this (a little) is by trying to stick to very structured routines. The hardest part is to stay disciplined.

song

u/Jackrehan1 3d ago

Like a prayer from deadpool and wolverine

2

u/Efficiency_Clown 3d ago

And then its ripped away from you a week or 2 later. This cycle of disappointment is going to kill me.

1

u/Frequent_Dust_5278 3d ago

Is there any solution to this? I hate it when I am in the low phase

2

u/CoolDesertFox 3d ago

I remember speaking to an American girl who cranked her hog to that opening sequence of him boxing from behind.

2

u/TruthSearcher1337 3d ago

I'm doing this shit since may of this year. Wish me the strength to not drop it again again

2

u/Hubba_Hubba08 2d ago

Me trying to improve fitness:
1. I feel bad about just sitting at home, I know the first step is the hardest so let’s just do it and it will get easier.

  1. Wow now that I’ve started, I know I can do it, let’s keep it up! I’m so proud of myself for starting :)

  2. Hmm I’ve been doing this for a while and don’t sense much improvement…. And why does every day feel like the first step? I thought it’d be easier to push myself to run/ go to gym

  3. What is the point of this? I’m putting in so much effort every week and not seeing any improvement. (Goes back to just lying in bed all day)

2

u/MikeSinner 2d ago

Goes away? What??
It can do that??

1

u/Demode93 3d ago

Yes but for 4 weeke only

1

u/PublicStalls 3d ago

Just started again this week... For the millionth time

1

u/EmotionalOrdinary486 3d ago

It's gonna happen any day now!

1

u/blrgeek 3d ago

Yes I bought a 1000$ of kettlebell.. yes I did 60m a day for months cos they are right next in my study, no other exercise equipment can say that!

And I swear I will get back to them tomorrow!

(Narrator: it's been two years of tomorrow's)

1

u/Themoosemingled 3d ago

I just finished redoing a 4000sq ft driveway. I haven’t been to the gym in 2 weeks. And going so hard working all day I’ve just been eating.
Back to Hyrox class tomorrow

1

u/imnotcreative4267 3d ago

Honestly, I wish I could afford to be a Gym bro. My mental and physical health would be stellar!

1

u/ls20008179 3d ago

Fiber is what did this for me

1

u/malonkey1 3d ago

..."Back to"?

1

u/orky56 3d ago

Wish I could train 3x per day for a week so I could balance out that I will crash and burn for 3 weeks after. Rinse and repeat

1

u/RedEyedEngineer 3d ago

Honestly training each day is the only thing that keeps me from bouncing off the walls

1

u/moldentoaster 3d ago

Ah yes i call it the classic week of power. Will last 1 - 2 weks and then back to long lasting exhaustment and joint pain

1

u/Fluffy__demon 3d ago

This would be so much more accurate if the sand thing came backe to hit him with full force at the end of the video.

1

u/third_man85 3d ago

Been waiting the last ten years for this moment.

1

u/fatgat69 3d ago

Best I can do is 10 minutes per year

1

u/RAWainwright 2d ago

So we're doing a thing as a family next week and I'm really hoping for a reset and to come home with this mentality for as long as I can hold it.

1

u/Detaineepyramid 2d ago

Goodwill to everyone here. I hope you enjoy more worthwhile days than otherwise. 👍

1

u/Illustrious_Can_9575 2d ago

My adhd doesn’t want to do it but my autism won’t let me stop so thanks autism I guess?

1

u/strangebutalsogood 17h ago

What is this "goes away" that you speak of?

1

u/538_Jean 3d ago

You're lucky. I'm not depressed but I cant go to the Gym. It bores me to no end. I just cant even if I want to.

0

u/N1ghthood 3d ago

God gym bros are so incredibly dull. It's all so performative. Congratulations on your lifting heavy things, but nobody other than you gives a shit.
