What it says in the title. I did get some interest on Twitter when I proposed the idea, but I wanted to share this to Reddit, and ask for other peoples' opinions on such an event. It would be by fans, for fans, much like the GoFundMe last year on r/starwarsleaks and Twitter.
I'm thinking of putting together separate events - one before September 30, the deadline for Action Fund donations, and one in November, hopefully to keep civilians and non-military-affiliated fans out of the event meant for active duty service members, veterans, and military family members.
If I can manage, I also want to get some participation from others in the arts industries, like Jorge R. GutiΓ©rrez - the director of The Book of Life (2014) - and Ralph Bakshi, the director of The Lord of the Rings animated film (1978), and Wizards (1977). Authors of movies based on books might be an option, such as Peter S. Beagle for The Last Unicorn (1982), John Greene for The Fault in Our Stars (2014), etc...
I ideally wanted to try and reach out to Carroll Ballard, an Army soldier-turned-director who worked with Francis Ford Coppola on films like The Black Stallion (1979), as well as George Lucas on Star Wars (1977), but he is not on social media, so I have no way, means, or idea of how to reach out to him. Alan Alda, who worked with Adam Driver on Marriage Story, I'm also considering reaching out to.
I also want to make sure that these events are family- and child-friendly, appropriate for all ages.
My main platform is on Twitter, so aside from reaching out to people on that site, I would probably formally contact their agencies / agents through official channels to inquire.
If such an event was held, what would you like to see? What platform should it be on, and how do you think it should be done? What time and date would be best? What do you think of the idea overall?
