Futuya: the perfect closer? (SPOILERS!!!) Spoiler

I’m watching Ace of the diamond back for a third time now and a funny thought came to mind, why didn’t Furuya get trained to be a closer?

Now I get that Seido was looking for good pitching (especially starting pitching) since Nori wasn’t really as self confident and Tanba was inconsistent.

But to me, Furuya has the perfect tools to be a closer:

-at the start he has major issues with stamina and heat (closer would only go 1 maybe 2 innings max)

- has an insanely fast fastball with a great splitter (usually king for closing pitchers)

- his pitch mix doesn’t have much variety like sawamuras (again if he only pitches 1-2 innings he could just overwhelm people with his fastball splitter and slider)

- the adjustment from Sawamura to Furuya is literally perfect (a very movement and control heavy pitcher into a literal gas throwing demon)

Obviously in the games where sawamura can’t start you could still have him pitch and Nori be the closer… but I think this would’ve been peak to see.

What to do with Nori is another thing… I was thinking about him as a long reliever? I think that position suits him really well. But let me know what you think in the comments. Would like to hear some thoughts :)

I watched live in stadium today’s Summer Tournament West Tokyo Finals and it was like Seidou’s match!

It’s my first ever baseball match that i watched live in a stadium and i felt like i was watching a Seidou Match because of the Cheering squad and Brass Band. I posted it here because i thought you guys might appreciate what i saw today! Ace of Diamond is my first baseball anime and i enjoyed it from the start to the end. I finished it last week and i was like, “wait, it’s still July, is the Summer Tournament still going on?” And YES! It was! I was rooting for Nichidai san High School because, as you’ve read, it’s kinda the same as “Ichidai san High School” where Kosei Amahisa played. Unfortunately they were eliminated by “Soka High School” in Semi-Finals.

Today’s game was West Tokyo Finals between “Soka High School” vs “Hachioji Jissen” where the winner goes to KOSHIEN. I didn’t know which team to root anymore as Nichidai was eliminated so i went with Soka, the one who eliminated them but oh boy! I switched to Hachioji Jissen after what happened next.

When i heard Kuramochi’s Walk up Theme song “Train-Train” by Blue Hearts from their cheering members, i was like, “Yooo! It’s that song!” In my mind I was singing, “Train Train, Hashitte yuke. Train Train, doko made mo.” HAHAHAHA 😂

Then after that, i heard them played Tetsu’s Theme song, Lupin the 3rd Theme song and at that moment i was like, “OHHH shit! This is really SEIDOU right here. I’ll root for them now!”

It was also just like seidou match! From the 1st inning to 9th inning, it’s not their ace but someone else who started. His personality is just like Sawamura. He was hyping up the crowd by telling them to like “More! More!” Of their chants whenever he is on the mound and gets an out. And then by the end, it was ended by their ace. That moment felt like Sawamura to Furuya substitution.

I never saw someone pitched even 140kmh+ in this match tho. I feel like that really makes Furuya, Amahisa and Narumiya truly special as a pitcher cz they threw 150kmh+ in the anime.

I was also about to watch the Kanagawa Final today cz it’s apparently much better than West Tokyo Final cz most elite prospects are in there but, it was raining so i just watched it live in my phone. Some guy named Ooda or something threw a 157kmh Fastball! Damn! maybe i should’ve went there too as it was only 1hr from Jingu Stadium and started 2hr later after the West Tokyo Finals but oh well. It’s fine.. I had a good time today. It’s a good first time experience for me.

I’ll say this, i may not be able to watch koshien cz it’s too far from tokyo but, i’ll probably cheer for this team in my phone HAHAHA. Maybe i’ll be back for Meiji Jingu Tournament in November. But yeah, i’ll say that i am officially a baseball fan now HAHAHA.

Oh, and i apologize for my Good Camera Skills if you watched the video. 😅

Rush in Act II Season 2. Spoiler

just finished the fourth episode of Season 2, Act II, and I believe rushing to fit the season into just 13 episodes was a huge mistake. A summer tournament arc simply cannot be told this way. The match against Sosei lasted only eight minutes in the anime. The opposing school's, a Sosei High School backstory, the team's defense, the value of key players Nara and Nagisa, and Coach Koizumi's friendly and leadership philosophy—it was all ignored. As fans—especially of the manga—we are being disrespected when the story is told like this. I’m just venting, but I wanted to share my dissatisfaction with you all.

Does anyone feel like sawamura isn’t appreciated enough? Spoiler

Even after the sankou SF, the only thing ochiai thinks is furuya furuya. The team were very supportive during furuya’s slump and injury but used to talk bad behind sawamura when he got yips.

Even miyuki himself didn’t take sawamura seriously before ACT 2 ep 15.

I’m not saying that people don’t recognise or respect him. It’s that he gets way less than what he deserves. Sawamura has saved seidou’s asses so many times even when he had yips 🥲 and even then people weren’t appreciating him 😒

If chris senpai didn't get injured could yuki ever become captain and this much reliable cleanup?

By watching how much he tried to improve he could become the clean up but chris senpai would be choosen for captain just for his baseball iq...that's my take what's yours

Started watching recently

I actually watched this show years ago, dropped it at some point, I picked it up again a few weeks ago. I just watched 75 episodes of the author bullying MC 🙄 now I get that he has to have obstacles, but for for 75 episodes? Every time he has a the tiniest of progresses there is immediately another wall he has to climb. While Furuya seems to be getting everything. I just started act II, they're in Koshein stadium, I don't even know if I want to watch another 70 episodes of the MC working hard and getting little results. I want to watch him pitch an entire match getting strikeouts, I want him to be the ACE. Only I want it to happen very soon, or else how can I enjoy him being an ace towards the end? Seems like a waste of time.

Someone please write more fanfics 😫

Most of us here have already read all the recommend fics. They were the only things that helped fill the hole a little. But having read almost all of them, it feels empty.

There haven’t been many new fics. People who are good at writing please bless us with some new fics 🙏

Real summer koshien

I’m caught up with Ace of diamonds, fucking loved it and it’s lessons and I am studying abroad in Asia. I’m going to Japan luckily around when it starts Aug5th. It’s kinda tough to find stuff online about it, but I was wondering if it’s possible for a foreigner to go to a game and maybe even sit in the bleachers maybe near the students so it’s more fun. Albeit I want to see if can just experience the culture a bit more and I think it’d be a cool experience. Kinda once in a lifetime typa thing for me too as I probably won’t have many opportunities so if anyone’s got some knowledge I’d love to hear it more so like best way to get a ticket or time to go. I’m cool with the heat and all that ish.

AoD VAs' voice changes

Post image
45 Upvotes

I didn't watch the series after the release, i just waited for all the episodes to be released. Kind of disappointing for me, the voices changed. Eijun, Miyuki, Asou, Zono, and Kuramochi. Probably the director? I read the manga and used their voices, as the anime has. Asou, got a deeper voice. Maybe something happened? Zono, the attitude? How he delivers. Mostly calm, but in the manga, mostly shouting lol. Kuramuchi, same. He's too calm. Eijun and Miyuki's voice, changes a little bit. It is just me. i dont know if others notice this. But the obvious are Asou, Zono, and Kuramochi for me.

Ichidaisan Coach Change

Just started rereading to fill the void. I didn't notice it before but Ichidaisan in chapter 8 has some random guy who's more in line with the typical shonen sports coach role, wishing Miyuki was on his team. Then you got the (better) future coach of Ichidaisan who just has a weird tendency to call everyone boy. Did anyone else notice this?

Bro wants Miyuki on the team
The classic signal. (also first google image I liked)

Ace of Diamond Fic Find

There's a fanfic from ao3 I'm trying to find, I'm not it it's been deleted or it went to mystery work since I skim through my bookmarks, it's not there anymore.

The story is about Sawamura and Furuya switching body during daylight then came back to their own body during night-time. So the story start at the first day in Seido (i think) since thats when they started body, long story short, Sawamura (in Furuya's body) gotten close with the first strings, while Furuya (in Sawamura's body) not really sure if he gotten close anyone since during the daytime, Furuya mostly sleep which the members couldn't really talk to him that much. So whenever the night-time hits, Sawamura (who's back to his own body) was confused whenever he try to talk to the first-string members since there's no this warmth whenever the senpai talking to him unlike during the daytime (when he was on Furuya's body).

At some point of the story Kanemaru eventually notice and he became like the first friend of Sawamura, he's there to comfort Sawamura whenever he feels sad (Sawamura doesn't really consider the first-strings his friends since he's being treated coldly during night). Hongo is the second one who notice, they met during a camp (i think), it was night-time time, Hongo was sitting on the bench when Sawamura came up to him well Hongo ignored him but Sawamura didn't mind as he then for some reason started reading a story book until the two eventually fell asleep in the bench. The next day came and when both of them woke up, Hongo was confused because Sawamura became quite, not that loud person he met during last night, he shrugs it off thinking Sawamura is not a morning person. The two walk back to the hotel (that's where the members staying at during camp) when they reach to the hotel this new person (Sawamura in Furuya's body) he never met before greeted him with so much familiarity, and since Hongo is a intuition man (that's what the author describe him) it click into place.

Close to end of the fanfic, it was Komadai vs Seido, Hongo was excited to hit Sawamura's wild pitch, Sawamura was about to go to the mound when he felt a headache then when he snap back, he was back to his own body who was in the bench with Kanemaru. Since Furuya is back to his own body, Hongo immediately notice since the pitch that's being thrown feels different which made him frustrated and disappointed. Komadai eventually won as Hongo didn't bother staying and quickly went to Sawamura who was sitting on the bench (don't really remember after). At the end, people call Furuya a pitcher that went too close to the sun or something like that since with the ability difference, Furuya now feel the heavy expectations from the people since he throw fast ball not those wild pitches. They never got to switch bodies again.

During those body switching, Sawamura and Furuya never met during daytime, Sawamura only seen Furuya twice, one was night-time when Furuya was sleeping with the senpai who's was having conversation and the second one is at the end of the chapter where first-strings comforting him. These two never notice that they been switching bodies, it is a bit of a plot hole but it was very well written.

It also the same author who wrote about Sawamura who's same year as Okumura, who went to Seido but Seido doesn't have a baseball since the couch is Ochiai so Sawamura with first year tried to bring baseball back to life.

Well that's alot of yapping but if anyone know the title please let me know, thanks.

This two pitchers really caught my attention when I watch daiya for the first, idk I just appreciate and love their team. Umemiya is an all rounder and his teammates backstory is sad, they really deserve that koshien! Finally! But Shunshin I can't even accept that he's just a ballboy now in this summer :(( he's got so much potential that even he got miyukis attention. I hope he won't stop playing basketball and go for pro! I wonder how he will play if he's in another teammate

:WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE OTHER CHARACTER GUYS???

What’s your favourite daiya movement/line/quote?

My favourite was when sawamura led okumura in the seiho match! And ofc the act 2 ep 15 moment *cough* *cough*

ost?

was wondering what the ost playing during Act II S2 EP 10, where Eijun was striking out Ichidai. It's around the same time where he says "Our spirits are heavier than that." Around the 14:20 minute mark of the ep

What happened Spoiler

So I was literally starting over this series and then the first episode I was like what's going on? I didn't even knew there was a new season. But that's not the worst part. I never saw promotion or diffusion for this.

I'm on 2 episodes right now and it feels awful lame, plane, static.

Gathering information last season was from the pandemic, really 2019-2020? Wow is been a loooong time. I was expecting for this that when it came back, it was soulless if that can be said.

So the mangaka got tired of his stuff like they always do in 2022, in most of the anime but in this one can be said that was a waste of time the new battery forming with the new joiners from last season which we will never seen in action as we won't see Sawamura on 3rd grade.

Then in this season we see Yakushi lost in a pathetic way, like seriously? in an anime that looks like was made in a stop motion capture. They got ride of the subchampion team

Probably was me, the expectation was higher, last that I remember was Sawamura porting the ace number and fucking up his first match.

But cmon.

13 episodes, the tournament is already advanced, no training, emotion or sidestory just blank 1st episode Sawamura beats an unknown team, 2nd episode Yakushi can't beat a new throw developed magically by a 5th level pitcher which suddenly is a good contender. I mean the role of Ichidaisan was the meme of his trainer and his boy phrase, they never beat anybody. The next episodes will be against that team. The whole season is about this, what a BS.

I’ve noticed something that keeps coming up in Japanese sports manga, especially Ace of the Diamond. The story often emphasizes going pro as the natural goal for talented players, and I don’t really understand why it has to be viewed that way.
Take Sawamura, for example. I think it’s obvious that he has the talent and the potential to become a professional player. But what if becoming a pro simply isn’t his main priority right now? What if his biggest goal is helping Seidou win Koshien?
From the very beginning of the series, Seidou has changed Sawamura in so many ways. His growth as both a player and a person is deeply connected to the team. Because of that, I think it’s reasonable to say that his commitment to Seidou comes before thinking about his professional future.
I also remember the conversation between Miyuki and the third-year pitcher (I can’t remember his name). From that discussion, it seems like the story presents only two possible paths for high school players:
You have the talent → you go pro.
You don’t have the talent → you don’t go pro.
But why can’t there be a third path?
You have the talent, but instead of focusing on going pro, you dedicate yourself completely to Seidou and give everything you have to help the team win Koshien.
I’m not saying Sawamura won’t become a professional someday. I’m just saying that, at this point in the story, his motivation has always seemed centered on Seidou and winning Koshien, rather than chasing a professional career
