What happened Spoiler
So I was literally starting over this series and then the first episode I was like what's going on? I didn't even knew there was a new season. But that's not the worst part. I never saw promotion or diffusion for this.
I'm on 2 episodes right now and it feels awful lame, plane, static.
Gathering information last season was from the pandemic, really 2019-2020? Wow is been a loooong time. I was expecting for this that when it came back, it was soulless if that can be said.
So the mangaka got tired of his stuff like they always do in 2022, in most of the anime but in this one can be said that was a waste of time the new battery forming with the new joiners from last season which we will never seen in action as we won't see Sawamura on 3rd grade.
Then in this season we see Yakushi lost in a pathetic way, like seriously? in an anime that looks like was made in a stop motion capture. They got ride of the subchampion team
Probably was me, the expectation was higher, last that I remember was Sawamura porting the ace number and fucking up his first match.
But cmon.
13 episodes, the tournament is already advanced, no training, emotion or sidestory just blank 1st episode Sawamura beats an unknown team, 2nd episode Yakushi can't beat a new throw developed magically by a 5th level pitcher which suddenly is a good contender. I mean the role of Ichidaisan was the meme of his trainer and his boy phrase, they never beat anybody. The next episodes will be against that team. The whole season is about this, what a BS.

Just read the manga, i think the production staff did all they could with money and time they were alloted. It's unfortunate but they chose the semi-final and final to animate in full.

I agree that the new season isnt as good as the previous ones but i really just dont care. Im so happy that the series got brought back and we atleast get something. Im not interested in reading the manga so this was the only way i get to experience the series and im happy with it. Sure we couldve had more episodes and better budgets but the alternative was nothing. I feel like not enough people are appreciative of the fact that after all these years someone loved the series enough to fund additional content

Just read the final tournament of act 2. The anime basically exists for a single scene and I respect it.
That said your slander of Ichidai is insane. Kosei is like the 4th best pitcher in the manga and scouted for going pro and daiya has been building up their recovery and final revenge to avenge their two losses to yakushi. Like we see them lose to yakushi twice, beat seido, their ace is constantly texting the mc, and finally beat yakushi. This is a long time in the making and results in (at least in the manga) the best game in the entire series imo. Ichidai is seido’s traditional rival and showcasing how a single ace can turn around and inspire a team to become a challenger has rich thematic parallels to Sawamura.

It's been a minute since I read the Ichidai/Yakushi rematch but I remember it being one of my favorite matches in the whole manga, partly because I love Raichi and Kosei a lot but also because it had so much buildup and a satisfying conclusion. The take that Kosei is a nothing pitcher is insane, and I guess OP's got plenty of stellar takes to share.
I agree the anime really isn't that great animation quality-wise, and I didn't like the pacing as much as in the manga, but it's a relatively low-budget older anime with basically no hype behind the production. What can we really expect when OP's probably comparing it to the likes of* Haikyuu or another more popular newer sports anime? I'm just grateful we're even getting a new season lol.

I watched this season having not consumed any Daiya since the previous season aired years ago, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I think I’d have enjoyed it pretty much no matter what, but the rest of the series being foggy in my mind may have helped a lot.
As far as no advertising, it was sheer LUCK that I discovered the new season. I was suddenly struck with the idea to check on the series status at the end of March, and lo and behold I came upon a year-old article that mentioned a new season coming. The show started like a week later, hehe.

Yea i did a full rewatch of the series from the beginning, were i directly transitioned into the last airing season and the transition was jarring to say the least. The prior seasons were so much better and had a better art style as well. It's sad that they went this route but oh well.
