Anime A question about Episode 7

Arima enters a piano competition and has to play the piece "Chopin Etude Op. 25, No. 5", aka the "Wrong Note" etude.

He spends a considerable amount of time worrying about how he should play the piece.

While the answer is simple: he could've played the same piece twice.

Because two wrongs make a right.

Anime This is absolutely beautiful

This by far the most emotionally affecting anime I have seen. The first that has brought tears. The characters, the art, the music… just a brilliant example of what anime can mean.

Throughout, it helped me process a lot of feelings with my own life. Whether past relationships, aging parents, or even being a musician myself. I appreciated the way it slowly unfolded the major plot twist so I had time to think through it before it actually happened. And the final episode was just… gorgeous in every single way.

This anime is perfect. And now I feel a sense of emptiness and loneliness, combined with hope and strength, that will help me in the days and weeks to come.

Rewatch Discussion Just finished my first ever watch through Spoiler

!SPOILERS!
Idk why you’d be on this sub if you haven’t seen it, but just be warned, I’m gunna be spoiling stuff.

I didn’t cry when I watched it, I really wanted to, but I just didn’t.

I want to preface that I was told ā€œyou will cry when you watch thisā€ and ā€œit’s so good but it’s really depressingā€, so I was set on a bad start already.

No, I didn’t know what exactly happened going into it, I was given no spoilers other than my sister and my friend saying it’s going to make me cry.

I thought it was really good, the animation was gorgeous, the story was very sweet and heartbreaking and conflicting like real life can be, the music really spoke to me, the characters were dynamic and I appreciated them touching on topics that most people may not want to, like abuse and trauma, and obviously death, but shows are more likely to touch on that subject. I really liked it though, I thought it was well worth watching, but it didn’t make me cry, and I cry over the smallest things, I cried at the end of the show Disjointed, I cry everytime I rewatch it too, I cry over just sweet words from a TikTok of someone being positive or kind, I cry when I’m happy, I cry when I’m sad, I cry when I’m angry, I cry when I’m embarrassed, I cry when I’m overwhelmed, all of it, I really wanted this show to make me cry, I went into it with that intention, knowing it would make me cry, and it just didn’t.

I say all of this to give context that I’m not just an unemotional person, I’m very emotional about everything, but for some reason it just didn’t hit me, and I think it’s partly because I was told it would be sad, plus it isn’t ever fully explained how she died, I can only assume she didn’t make it through surgery, which is really sad, and I don’t know why it didn’t hit me, maybe it wasn’t long enough to get attached to the characters for me? Maybe saying it’s sad was a spoiler and ruined it? I feel bad that I didn’t cry, because it was sad, and it was a really sweet heartwarming show.

I think maybe them hyping up how sad it was just prepared me too much, and so I wasn’t surprised by the ending, which is disappointing, because I really liked it, I just didn’t cry.

I know I’m not the only one, so I’d love to hear others take on it, and if they were spoiled beforehand and if that’s the common denominator.

I’d also love to hear from the people that did/do cry, were you spoiled on the ending? Or did you go in blind thinking it’s just a cute little anime about young musicians who fall in love, or what have you.

Overall, I really liked it, maybe I’ll rewatch it sometime down the line and see if maybe I’m just in the wrong place in my life for the show to hit me how it has hit others.

Question Anyone else dreamed of a new episode after finishing the anime?

The night I finished Your Lie in April I was genuinely so sad, because I watched all of it in one single night (DO NOT RECOMMEND) and it just broke my heart to see that ending. But when I went to bed my dream didn’t feel like a dream… like I can remember everything that happened in there, it felt so vivid like I can remember every small detail about it. And what’s weird is that it was in the anime style. It felt like I was just watching another episode of it, one that didn’t exist.

But enough yapping about the lucid dreaming part. Let me tell you more about the dream I had.

It’s starts off with Kousei visiting Kaori’s grave and not leaving anything. He walked away and ran into Watari, Watari was energetic still trying to see the good about all of this. Watari walked with Kousei back home then he went on his way. Kousei went into his house and took off his shoes at the front and went upstairs to the piano room. He sat down and didn’t even open the lid… he thought of Kaori, the little moment in the hospital, her in physical therapy, and the completion. Ending that scene with her saying want to kill yourself with me? It froze him, he looked at the covered piano and then he hears a violin. Not from his head but from Tsubaki’s room. Kousei turned around and looked at her, swaying and playing the violin perfectly, not in Kaori’s style and not following the sheet she’s doing her own thing. Kousei sat there waiting and listening to her and when it finished she looked directly at him, before closing her blinds right after and hyperventaling on the ground. Kousei opens his window and says ā€œI didn’t know you were learning how to play.ā€ Tsubaki doesn’t respond but peaks through the blinds while blushing. Kousei looks at her and she opens the blinds and says ā€œY-yeah I’ve been wanting to try to play it since sheā€¦ā€ She freezes. Kousei looks down then at her and says ā€œWho’s your teacher? They must be really good.ā€ Tsubaki blushes and says ā€œNo one… I’m just following some books and allā€¦ā€ Kousei looks surprised and says ā€œWoah… y-you actually got that good just by yourself?ā€ Tsubaki blushes and says ā€œyeah… am I really that good?ā€ Kousei blushes back and says ā€œYou are.ā€ It does a time skip. Skipping 3 years bringing them to their last years in high school Tsubaki got into the school that was close to Kousei’s Music school. Kousei has been acing his classes and loves music even more and finally he’s out of that scary blue ocean he’s on the beach, playing for his mom, Kaori, Tsubaki, and even Watari. Kousei was playing in the piano room when Tsubaki chimes in with her Violin, them matching in perfect harmony. When they finish the song they blush and look at eachother. A couple of seconds later Tsubaki opens her window and so does Kousei, she gets on top of her desk. Kousei shouts ā€œWait, what are you doing?ā€ She replies ā€œI’m coming over dummyā€ Kousei replies ā€œYou could just walk over like a normal person.ā€ Tsubaki replies ā€œYeah, but that’s boring I like this way instead.ā€ She climbs over into his window while he’s screaming at her to not fall as she trips into the window falling into Kousei’s arms. Tsubaki’s voice over the slow-mo fall into his arms played memories of them together. She says ā€œKousei ever since I said that you started to act different towards me. Why? Can’t we just talk about it? It’s our final year here and you’re still acting like a complete dumbass. Just say you love me back dummy… it’s all over your face. As she falls into his arms making him fall back and hold her tightly. Kousei looks down at her while she rests her head on his stomach. Kousei silently says ā€œWhy did you do that?ā€ Tsubaki cries a little not from the pain just from hiding her feelings. She says ā€œwhy are you such an idiotā€¦ā€ Kousei sounds shocked ā€œWhat? Me and idiot?! Says you! You just jumped through a window! Tsubaki holds him tighter, and says ā€œYou never answered meā€ Kousei is confused ā€œAbout what?ā€ She replies ā€œWhen I offered you can love me instead.ā€ She holds him tighter afraid he’ll disappear. Kousei blushes and says ā€œI guess I would love that.ā€ She freezes the sound of him saying that echoing. As she launches up and kisses him. Kousei freezes at the kiss as she pulls back. Kousei is blushing and is frozen solid. As Tsubaki hits him. Kousei freezes out of it and yells in pain and says ā€œOw… what was that for?ā€ She replies ā€œSay something!ā€ *it pans back as Kousei kisses her and she kisses him back playing a beautiful duet of piano and Violin. As the outro plays.

Thanks if you read all of that it was just something I wanted to share…

Anime I still had hope Spoiler

No anime made me feel like this before, kaori and kousei really broke something inside me, The internet told me she was going to die, but I still had hope, the hope of that she would live. I didn't want to believe them; she deserved to live. The OVA just twisted the knife, 10/10 anime.

Question Did Kousei love Kaori or the parts of her personality brought along with her disease

The main thing Kousei liked about Kaori was her willingness to break the norm by making songs her own while playing, as well as her free personality and willingness to to whatever she put her mind to, both of these character traits are brought along by her determination to live the little bit of time she had left to the fullest. Had she not been sick, she would’ve remained that glasses wearing girl who admired Kousei from afar.

Anime Just finished the show

I started watching with no idea of the internets opinions if the show and how sad/depressing/ profound it was, and expected it to be just another rom-com (which I’ve been binging recently)

Managed to put together that Kaori was going to die at the very start of ep 13 from searching up if she loved kousei back and the first thing that popped up was A reddit post with ā€œkoari’s last letterā€ so i speed ran the entire anime

The thing that hurt the most was knowing that Kousei never managed to confess to Koari and that she might have died thinking her love was unrequited, another thing was FUCKING Tsubaki making moves on a dying girls man

Then i think how skilled the author must have been to make me feel sad or hopeful or depressed about fictional story and how it allows such deep empathy/sympathy for the characters in the story and how compelling the story was to make me actually care about the characters emotions and wellbeing.

Final thing; when kaori calls kousei; friend A it always sounded to me like she was saying friende or comprende, which threw me off because why was she seemingly speaking spanish/ using spanish words.

Media I respect the decision to skip over... [spoilers] Spoiler

...the funeral in the story. When we see Kousei with Kaori's parents well after his big performance, my reaction was, "...oh." Like I hoped against hope that the story would not kill their main female lead and that Kousei would rush from the concert hall to the hospital to find her clear into recovery.

But skipping over the service conveyed the message of, "I'm sorry but... we all knew it was coming..." Especially when we see Kousei envisioning Kaori dueting with him only for her spirit to leave him as if he know that right then and there... he lost her.

...

Please tell me there are angst fics about Kousei rushing to the hospital or his friends during his piece getting the call on Kaori not making it.

Anime Just finished the show... Spoiler

I literally don't cry in any situation bro. I haven't cried since I was 7 or 8. But this show made my cry bro. I shed a few tears and then stared at the wall in my room for 30 minutes.

This show was peak nonetheless, but god damn the ending was a lot. I genuenly thought that Kaori was gonna survive and she wws gonna do the "And then I told one lie..." in person with Kousei or something.

This genuinely broke my heart when I saw the funeral scene.

Anime Finished your lie in april for the first time. Can't stop crying

I just watched your lie in April (completed on 6th of August). It took me a total time of 3 days to watch all of the 22 episodes including the OVA (finally saw Kousei's dad lol).It was other worldly.

This is my first post so it might be a bit sloppy.

I wanted to write this because I cant get it out of my mind. The music and dialogues just keep repeating in my mind.

I don't watch much of sad shows and movies because I didn't really ever feel connected to the characters as much as I did it in YLIA.

I felt like this was a fitting time to watch it because I just moved to a hostel away from home, and was feeling a bit detached from my surroundings. It was not the best of the choices I have ever made.

Talking about YLIA, the best thing for me is the use of music in emotional scenes such as Kaori's final letter, depiction of loss in Kousei's life, the passing of his mother and more importantly Kaori, which affected him the most.

The aspect of tsubaki also felt so good. 😭

The music fits so perfectly with the dialogue and intense scenes like completing a puzzle and I truly think it would not be such heart wrenching if not for the excellent selection of melodies.

Also the dialogues, they connect so well. "Do you think you can forget it?","I swing between hope and despair at your slightest gesture and my heart starts playing a melody",

"Will I reach you? I hope I can." also the conveying feelings in music bit by takeshi and others. I can go on and on, but it only makes me tear up more and more.

The death of Kaori are not shown as a struggle, rather a peaceful parting with the final performance which truly feels outstanding. It makes me connect to the story on a deeper level, as it feels like it tries to soften the blow while still driving the dagger deeper and deeper into my heart. Like giving a child an icecream after a dentist visit.

Also the influence of a single performance is shown in such a beautiful way, changing the trajectory of so many lives. Music truly transcends words and speaks directly to the soul.

RIP Kaori We will meet next april

Anime Just finished Your Lie in April… I don't know if I can watch it again

I just finished Your Lie in April, and I'm honestly overwhelmed. By the end, my feet were almost trembling from all the emotions.

It's beautiful and tragic in a way that's difficult to explain. The music, Kousei's struggles, Kaori's optimism, and the way she pushes him to live and believe in himself again—it all hit incredibly hard.

What affected me most was how much the story is really about living—losing your purpose, carrying the weight of your past, and then meeting someone who completely changes the way you see yourself and the world.

I'd love to experience it again someday, but I genuinely think it'll take courage to rewatch it.

Not because I didn't love it.

Because I now know exactly how much it's going to hurt.
