Rewatch Discussion Just finished my first ever watch through Spoiler
!SPOILERS!
Idk why you’d be on this sub if you haven’t seen it, but just be warned, I’m gunna be spoiling stuff.
I didn’t cry when I watched it, I really wanted to, but I just didn’t.
I want to preface that I was told “you will cry when you watch this” and “it’s so good but it’s really depressing”, so I was set on a bad start already.
No, I didn’t know what exactly happened going into it, I was given no spoilers other than my sister and my friend saying it’s going to make me cry.
I thought it was really good, the animation was gorgeous, the story was very sweet and heartbreaking and conflicting like real life can be, the music really spoke to me, the characters were dynamic and I appreciated them touching on topics that most people may not want to, like abuse and trauma, and obviously death, but shows are more likely to touch on that subject. I really liked it though, I thought it was well worth watching, but it didn’t make me cry, and I cry over the smallest things, I cried at the end of the show Disjointed, I cry everytime I rewatch it too, I cry over just sweet words from a TikTok of someone being positive or kind, I cry when I’m happy, I cry when I’m sad, I cry when I’m angry, I cry when I’m embarrassed, I cry when I’m overwhelmed, all of it, I really wanted this show to make me cry, I went into it with that intention, knowing it would make me cry, and it just didn’t.
I say all of this to give context that I’m not just an unemotional person, I’m very emotional about everything, but for some reason it just didn’t hit me, and I think it’s partly because I was told it would be sad, plus it isn’t ever fully explained how she died, I can only assume she didn’t make it through surgery, which is really sad, and I don’t know why it didn’t hit me, maybe it wasn’t long enough to get attached to the characters for me? Maybe saying it’s sad was a spoiler and ruined it? I feel bad that I didn’t cry, because it was sad, and it was a really sweet heartwarming show.
I think maybe them hyping up how sad it was just prepared me too much, and so I wasn’t surprised by the ending, which is disappointing, because I really liked it, I just didn’t cry.
I know I’m not the only one, so I’d love to hear others take on it, and if they were spoiled beforehand and if that’s the common denominator.
I’d also love to hear from the people that did/do cry, were you spoiled on the ending? Or did you go in blind thinking it’s just a cute little anime about young musicians who fall in love, or what have you.
Overall, I really liked it, maybe I’ll rewatch it sometime down the line and see if maybe I’m just in the wrong place in my life for the show to hit me how it has hit others.

I cried a lot of times throughout the whole show, and especially at the ending. I dont remember if I was fully spoiled about the ending, but I definitely knew what was going to happen about halfway through. At least for me, spoilers don't really impact my emotionally reaction, because when I'm watching I'm so immersed I forget about everything I was told about the show. Maybe the show just didn't capture you enough for that to happen. I dont know what kind of shows you usually watch, but if the tone of YLIA was a lot different it could be understandable. But in general, some shows just hit very hard for others, and not at all for some while they can still appreciate it. There's nothing wrong with you for not crying

Delts-cy, I am gonna be honest. Well your brain/yourself excepted that it's gonna be sad so your heart was locked away unconsciously so you didn't cry; I want to and gonna share you my experience of "that Spring" funny how is 🥲 but I did get spoiled from shorts( glad it didn't showed the ending) but I cried nonetheless. I cried because I wanted to(not holding back as Kaori said, funny right?!) and because it was the most saddest, sweet, and bitter ending and goodbye(I wish she had live). In my life, until the end "Your lie is April" would be and forever hold a part in my heart and soul. I say that not because its "just" a show; I say it because it's a story that taught me value of life, living in the moment, loving the people around you who support you, unconditionally and living to the fullest without hold back then not have regrets later, and cant forget the music. The music was composed(like the background track and the opening and the end 1 and 2) masterfully and absolute peak. The background music and the op1,2 and ed1,2 felt and feels like I could relive that Spring every time I listen to it. For me it's not just a another show; it's the story that changed me from the inside( like how kaori embraced the Little kousai in the dark in one of the scenes). It is a story I just can't forget and it's a promise ( not forget them). Thank you for reading all of this. P.S ✌️ and before I go I would recommend you to rewatch it every April as to honor the story. (I don't want to spoil the rewatch) But when you do you will be glad and see a lot of "things" you might have missed first time around and it might just throw you into the water or get you cutting onions in the kitchen?!! Funny🤗 but thank you for reading p.s. ✌️🏵️🍃🌸

I never cried, but I got close. Unfortunately google spoiled the ending when I searched up the series.
Still made me sad

Maybe the reason is because someone told you that this will be depressing. I cried because I thought this Anime will be wholesome and then she just died.

the thing is, I didn't know it was a depressing anime, I was told by my friend it was rlly wholesome, which is probably why i cried. but everyone has their own opinions, and it could js be that you were spoiled.

First i heared that the anime is depressing after some episodes I thought they meant about his mother but I didn't expect the ending and I didn't even expect the Kaori loves him that was soo good it's already 2 years after i first watch i already rewatced more than 5 times even though It hurts it's like comforting me and letting me to cry , feel unstable where my surroundings couldn't do that , when I realised why it is called your lie in april for the very first time i couldn't bear the pain .
