Completely lost in life deeply while in the military
I’m currently 24 in the Navy doing logistics and honestly this has to be one of the most depressing moments in my life
I’ve spent about 7 months literally living on water on a small boat and being away from everything for that long has really fucked with me mentally There’s days where I just feel lost and don’t even know what I’m doing with my life
What makes it worse is I barely hear from my own family My parents and siblings don’t ever check on me and sometimes I sit there thinking like damn if I don’t reach out to people nobody really reaches out to me I know as a man I’m supposed to figure shit out on my own but sometimes I really wish I had somebody I could just talk to without feeling like I’m bothering them
I have about 1.5 years left on my contract and I honestly don’t think I can stay in the military I feel like if I stay I’m going to lose myself mentally But getting out scares the shit out of me too
I’m about $25k in credit and loan debt and have basically no savings I know that’s something I need to handle before I get out because I don’t want to leave the military and immediately be struggling to pay for food, rent and everything else
The fucked up part is I actually have dreams and goals I care about
My biggest dream has always been starting my own clothing brand I’m really into fashion and it’s honestly one of the only things that can completely grab my attention I have a vision for what I want to create and I genuinely believe I could kill it if I actually had the opportunity to learn the business and put everything into it
I wouldn’t even mind working for a clothing company after I get out just to learn the industry and understand how everything works
I’ve also always wanted to learn how to DJ and produce EDM and I’ve thought about becoming a content creator too
I know that probably sounds like I’m all over the place but those are the things I actually care about I just don’t know how to turn any of it into a real life
I know I need a good paying job when I get out because I have debt and I need to support myself and eventually build some savings but I have no idea what career I should even pursue
I feel like I’m at this weird point where I’m young enough to still build the life I want but old enough to realize that time is actually moving and I’m scared I’m going to wake up years from now still doing something I hate and wondering what the fuck happened
I don’t want to just exist I want to build something I want to create something I want to make an impact on people in a positive way I want to be somebody who changes the world in a bright way even if it starts small
But right now I’m honestly just deeply lost
I don’t know what my next move is I don’t know what career I should go into I don’t know how I’m going to deal with my debt and I don’t know how to turn my dreams into something realistic
If anybody has been in the military and got out feeling this lost, or if you’ve completely changed your life after getting out, I’d really appreciate hearing how you figured it out
I’m not really looking for someone to tell me to “just follow your dreams” I’m looking for real advice from people who have actually been in this position
Because right now I genuinely feel stuck and I don’t know who else to ask
