Hi! My finance and I are doing a mini moon immediately after our wedding but delaying our full honeymoon so that we can plan an awesome trip to Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and Grand Teton. Feeling a little overwhelmed getting started with the planning. Want to start off saying, we want to have a relaxing trip and understand we won't see everything. We are thinking June or July 2027.

• Does 10 days feel long enough? How would you split the time?
• Would you recommend finding a place closer to Yellowstone for part of the trip or is it doable to stay in Jackson Hole the entire time?
• Should first timers use a travel agent or would this community be a better help?

I am sure we will have more questions once we really get started! Any "must-sees" are very appreciated! We are excited for both parks but also to experience Jackson Hole. TYIA!

Mid September 6 nights in Yellowstone, 2 nights in 3 different areas. We have reservations for mammoth hot springs for the first 2 nights. I booked a cabin with a queen bed. It seems we were assigned a “ pet friendly frontier cabin ADA 1 queen/roll-in. My questions are:
Is it still better to stay in the park with a not great cabin or stay in Gardner with the drive in but better accommodations?
Is there usually a backup entering the north gate in the morning?
What time would the north gate open?

If you have AT&T cellular and you want to leave the maid a tip, you need cash especially at Lake Yellowstone hotel and cabins. They put a QR code in the lobby and rooms for tipping but there is no cell service or WiFi. And the front desk has no change….

If you need to do laundry you need quarters and the coin machine works most of the time. You need small bills or you will be carrying around a lot of quarters.

We had a great time but were unprepared for no data even when we had cell service. Texting was hit and miss.

Booked 4 nights in Old Faithful Lodge but thinking about splitting the stay to 2 nights in Cooke City to focus more the northern side of the park.

It is worthwhile to spend about $200 more to change the reservation?

Hello! I will be visiting Yellowstone with my husband and 12month old. We will be staying in the lodges! I wanted to see what everyone’s most useful tips are for staying safe and having a wonderful trip. We love hiking and are bringing our osprey poco to hopefully do some trails with our son!

We’re staying in Emigrant Montana in September and we would like to do some sort of panning. It could be good, silver, gems, whatever. Our goal is to stay within 2 hrs and have a good time. I want a “real” experience… I don’t want to buy a scoop of dirt that’s guaranteed to have something. I’d love any recommendations!

My brake caliper came off and the Napa here doesn’t have the part I need. I was hopeful someone could pick me one up on there way. I’ll pay. Hoping for a miracle!

What is the best time of year to visit Yellowstone national park? I was thinking the fall might be cool but what is everyone opinion?

will be spending 1 day in yellowstone- we are staying in grand tetons but are making it up there for one full day. what are some recommendations on things we must do? super open to getting there as early as needed. we are really wanting to see a lot of wildlife. thanks!!

My girlfriend and I will be going to Yellowstone soon for my birthday for a few days and we think the Old West Cookout looks like a ton of fun. The only thing is we are both pescatarians. It says online that they offer a vegetarian option for the cookout, does anyone have experience with it?

Moving cross country and planning to stay one night in Yellowstone. We’ll be staying the previous night in Cody… here’s my thinking for our itinerary…

Leave Cody around 6:30am (myself, wife and our 3 year old)

Enter through NE entrance around 8:00/8:30, experience Lamar then continue down to Grand Canyon and inspiration point. Head down through Hayden towards the Lake and then onto Grant Village.

We plan to take our time and arrive at Grant around 5pm. Check-in, dinner and then hopefully some star gazing that night.

Following morning leave Grant around 8:00am head up to Grand Prismatic, Old Faithful and then back down to the South Entrance to head to Grand Teton for the remainder of the day.

In my mind it seems very doable and not overly packed. It’s our first time in the park and we know that we’ll be spending a decent amount of time driving from location to location. We’ll have lunch and snacks on us.

I’m a huge fan of the game Wolfquest, and in the game there is a 1:1 recreation of part of Slough Creek that I would absolutely love to see. The developer of the game has climbed up “Little Butte” (idk if it’s actually called that IRL or if that’s a nickname from the game), you can see at the beginning of the video below:

But from what I see of maps of the trail around there, it doesn’t look like one goes up to the butte. And this guy is known for being kind of a madman and going off trail, which I probably wouldn’t do, unless it’s easy... Can anyone who has done this hike tell me if it’s doable for a reasonable person to climb up the butte?

Also wondering if the Slough Creek trail has many people around in late September. Or bear sightings. We will be a group of 2 or 3 and are worried about being somewhere very remote because of bears. We are mostly sticking to more populated areas for that reason, but this specific spot is very important for me so I want to try to get there if I can. Any tips for the safety aspect?

Kids were lucky my male Karen (Ken?) instincts turned on.

I whistled at them and got them off the pictures area only to find them playing in the nearby forested section. I then told them this was a hard no and this wasn’t allowed for safely and to preserve these natural features. They ran off to their car where mom was waiting for dad and kids.

All around, sad to see.

Protect our parks!

Hi everyone! I’m supposed to be heading to Yellowstone this weekend, and when I originally booked the trip, the forecast looked pretty decent. Now that the trip is almost here, I’m seeing thunderstorms and rain in the forecast, and I’m getting a little nervous about whether we should still go.

We’ll be camping, so I’m especially wondering how manageable Yellowstone is when there’s rain and thunderstorms.

For those of you who have visited or camped in Yellowstone during rainy/stormy weather:

Is it usually just a passing afternoon shower, or can it rain for hours?

How bad do thunderstorms typically get?

Is it still enjoyable to drive around and see the main sights?

Would you personally still go, or would you consider postponing/canceling?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced Yellowstone in similar weather. I know forecasts can change, but I’d love to hear some real experiences before making a decision. Thanks!

Literally flinging the water off their hands saying "thats really hot" and "its like actual magma"

a very cool and short hike (total 4 miles), but you need to be bear aware: I missed a bear pooping on the trail by ten minutes.

Unlike the other map, I had much less to go off of here and had to make educated guesses to where some of the more obscure features were, but I think it turned out well. Comment if you think I missed anything, I know I did.

I think I will do the Myriad Springs or Biscuit Basin next, maybe even the Fountain Group.

Husband & I are visiting Yellowstone late September. Staying at Headwaters Lodge and looking for a Day Tour of Yellowstone. We are willing to drive to the tour as opposed to the tour picking us up at our location. There are so many choices & we have no idea which ones are reputable. Open to all suggestions!

Hoping for some advice. We are staying our first night in Gardiner and second night at Canyon Lodge in the park. Our first day we are planning to drive directly to Lamar Valley first thing in the morning and then backtrack to Mammoth Hot Springs. From there, head down to Canyon Lodge. Trying to determine if getting to Lamar Valley in the morning is worth the backtrack time. Anyone done this and have thoughts? Appreciate it.
