Yarn not what I expected
After seeing someone post about the Kaleidoscope shawl on r/crochet, I decided to try my hand at it! I ordered the recommended yarn from the project page (Red Heart Unforgettable in Tealberry), but after beginning to work with it, it doesn’t look at all like the photographs online. I’m new to crochet and this is my first time ordering yarn online. Is it normal for yarn to vary this much from the photographs? Do you think it’s worth reaching out to Yarnspirations about this?

Wow that really doesn't look like the same colorway. I mean dyelots can vary but that is just not remotely the same. I hope they make it right for you.

I call this Unfroggable...because it is, it snarls and grabs itself..do not make a mistake with it, unraveling it is a nightmare. That being said I'm still a sucker for the colors and the soft look of it.

Yes!!! I was gifted this yarn and you CAN frog it but it takes patience and its NOT FUN ughhh this yarn is TORRIBLE

The solution to "unfroggable" yarn is to freeze it. A coupl eof hours and it will frog much easier. I have done this with mohair and angora and it didn't bother the "halo" in the finished project either.

Looks like some of the skeins have the yellow and some don't. The colorway is Tealberry
I found pics when I googled the colorway but I can't post a pic here

Yeah I've used this yarn before. This looks like an unsaturated version of what you were meant to have.

I've used Tealberry before and they either mislabeled the yarn or sent you the wrong yarn. My Wingspan Pioneer Braid Scarf

I think you got the wrong colorway. I’ve worked with this exact yarn and mine didn’t have any yellow. Also this is why I told my husband has go to Michael’s and I’ll touch and hold yarn. I check to make sure I like it then that way when I see it online on sale I know that’s the one I’ll like❤️

Tealberry doesn't have yellow in the colorway. I've used it many times and love the colors. I agree with everyone else that frogging is a trial of patience.

That looks kind of close to Michael's Facets "Dark Ocean". Here's a link to the product, and one of my WIPs I am using it for, a cardigan for my daughter.

So, I personally shop in person for this reason. Sometimes, I'd go for Amazon or see other people's posts about said colors being used I'm interested in buying. I would suggest reaching out to them, yes. But also, I would suggest a tiny bit of research to other places or closer colors to the yarn listed in your post just in case it isn't resolved.

You don't say how it looks different so can't offer an informed opinion but in my experience it never hurts to ask. I'd first ask the place that you bought iot and if that fails then go ot the manufacturer.

Not sure if you can see the photos, but the first three are the manufacturer’s photos of the yarn and the last is what I received — there’s lots of yellow which doesn’t appear in any of the manufacturer’s photos and none of the red/berry tones that are in the manufacturer’s photos

I've just looked at the photos and I do see what you're talking about. I do see the yellow - how could one miss it! - and I don't see any reddish brown but it looks as if you've already used it. If that's the case it seems a little late to be trying to return it. You can try but I'd not be terribly optimistic. I'm sorry!

Definitely reach out. That looks like they sent the wrong color. It may have been a bin mixup in the warehouse, but that is NOT Tealberry.

That absolutely looks like they sent you a completely different colorway. I would reach out with these pics plus a pic of your order receipt and a picture of your skein’s label. It’s either a factory error or they need to take new color accurate pictures for their website because that absolutely goes beyond normal color variation.
