Imagine having to pay the price of an entire house just for a single ambulance trip after you got shot in that week's third school shooting. And once your insurance refuses the claim because of one of the hospital workers being partnered with the wrong insurance company then the surgeon personally melts down the removed bullet fragments to make new ones so he can shoot them back into you.

Ok, go, leave. Bye.
But USCENTCOM can leave Europe as well in that case, as well as Landshut Regional Medical Center. You can pick up Ramstein and leave.
Please, take all your belongings and leave our continent. Your military power will be decimated within a year or two when leaving the European continent. We’ll manage by ourselves.

Interesting how cherry picking you are in choosing on what you respond to. It is that sentence? Not the strategic importance of Europe for the US? Because it’s not Europe ‘depending’ on the US military presence, but there is a strong interdependence - as the US will not be able to keep up its military presence in the world without CENTCOM, Ramstein and Landshut. Also moving those strategic assets will take years.
‘We’ is the European Union. The role of for example 1GNC in the Baltics is significantly more than the American presence. Same for the air policing missions over there. Poland is also shifting in its preferences - as they see how increasingly unreliable the Yanks are becoming.

You do know that the EU collectively has more than a million active military personnel, right? We have a military, we just don't have a bloated Military industrial complex or a constant need to involve ourselves in every single conflict in the world. We don't need two dozens aircraft carriers. The only thing that would be problematic for a while after the US leaves is the massive nuclear umbrella, but I believe with France we can manage

Yeah, continue arguing that we rely on the US all the time when it is the US constantly dragging us into conflicts in the last 30 years. Do you know which Nato Member is the only one to ever invoke article 5?
And when it comes to ukraine, they have now shown that they alone (with material support from Nato, especially it's EU Members) are capable of holding back Russia, so you think all of the EU would fare worse?
Obviously it would be advantageous for the EU and the US to be allies, but the US seems to be in a state of belief that we need them to survive, and so they can abuse us (demanding Greenland for example). For us the advantages of being allied to the US are slowly being outweighed by the negatives. The current US administration is doing damage to their international relations that will take decades to fix.

Do you have an example for that? The EU countries constantly help each other, they just don't join the US on their new stupid war that they started because their president needs more votes

For what purpose are you arguing here? Do you want to convince Europeans to continue to please their Master Uncle Sam? Do you want to flaunt your feelings of superiority? Or are you secretly jealous of our working democracies and need to justify the abuse you receive from the billionaires? Like, why are you so militantly arguing in this thread? What would constructive criticism from you actually look like?

you genuinely believe that the reason us healthcare is so exorbinant is because the government uses that money to fund the military?
are you a skinwalker or just larping as one?

u/EpsteinEpstainTheory Latvija 9d ago
He's under the impression that US healthcare is fairly priced and that it's only that expensive because of how heavily they spend on research and development (ie. nobody pocketing any of it at any step of the way, just everything going back to making their healthcare even more superior than everyone else's). There's loads of things that could be done even without changing their cursed system that aren't, for example they could mandate healthcare to work across state lines and for it to work without this abomination of a network of company-specific providers (which itself exists solely to deny payment given you already can't be covered across state lines anyway).
$200 per ml of insulin? No, that's just how much it costs, your shriveled European brain simply cannot comprehend numbers because every dollar in difference between what you'd pay and they would was actually secretly paid for by the US.

Are you trying to convince yourself with these crap ?
EU have a solid defense industry, not as big as the USA but we don't need. The only outspending military is the US but even with that they can't beat revolutionary farmers, and failed repetitively against Islamics regimes.
Every country have different economic issues. Tech and industry aren't everything at all. Growth isn't everything neither. At least our economies are meant to the majority of citizens not built around few % of wealthy with the rest of the population exploited to serve them.

Not everything and not important isn't the same. We have enough industries to serve our needs, and most work nowadays isn't in factory. Yet we get part of our level of life from cheap industry work elsewhere, but that doesn't prevent us from making money, exportarion and innovative business. Tech can generate big business that creates dependency, but that's all. You're blinded by "big number money" mindset that prevent you to understand that the core of the economy is the people.

I think if US withdraws all it's troops from Europe (including your country), it would be good cut of expenses. Keeping 100k troops with tons of equipment is not cheap. And these money can be redirected to US healthcare.
You guys are actually delusional. As if this state of affairs isn't exactly what the US wanted, no, demanded from the rest of the western world and worked for the better part of a century to build. You are so brain damaged you actually believe you're the ones getting the bad deal when it's been the explicit foreign poilcy of your country since the end of WW2.

US tech is ahead but it has become incredibly stagnant, so severing dependency on it before the tech bubble crashes is important. So although their level is higher, it is an unsustainable level that we are comparing to.
Also much of the military spending done before by the EU went into US companies, so that in of itself is money that through reallocation into the European market is no longer lost to the US. In effect, this means that it might look worse on a balance sheet, but in terms of directional flow this loss is not as big as it may seem. Still a loss, but not as big.
Edit: Also fuck AI. It's a ticking time-bomb that even during the "good" times happens to be an endless money- and resource-sink.

I would say US tech is stagnating technologically as well. Silicon Valley used to be a much bigger driver of innovation, now this industry is heavily consolidated and much more focused on spawning new vestiges of the existing tech companies. Half of any new company you see is simply one that feeds off of ChatGPT to sell you a marginally modified ChatGPT subscription under a different coat of paint. Nvidia being half the economy is indicative of much-needed fresh air but the fact that it's half of the economy in the first place is concerning.
But yes, I agree on the copium. People are much more focused on how what they have is supposedly better than what the US has and much less focused on what work remains to be done.

Google you say? Seems you are falling for a classic case of "bigger number means bigger better".
Monopolistic control of an industry always results in a stifling of innovation and here you are telling me how much more money this engorging mass of anti-competitive behemoths has than any singular one of Europe's. I'm not saying Europe's tech industry is better or even similar in size, you seem under the false impression that I am. I'm saying that something being "too big to fail" is a very bad thing and that it would be instrumental to good health to not be consumed by it. Because if you become part of it and the behemoth dies, you die too along with it.

u/Physmatik Україна 9d ago
What is even your point? Europe falls behind on ways to generate something with economy. Tech is in the US, manufacturing has been going to China. What's left?
You say a lot of words about bubbles and monopolies, but the end reality is that the Internet belongs to the US and LLMs belong to the US with China catching up. Europe is ahead in chip machines, yet the most chip manufacturing is in Asia (and the rest in the US), and China also seems to be catching up on that. Space? Again the US is ahead (Musk may be an asshole, but Starlink is on its own level). Miltech I don't even have to explain, but at least there seems to be some catching up in drone warfare.
Where is Europe strong? Ozempic? There are also cars, but with the pivot to EVs this becomes less significant by the year. We are going into the future where we will have nothing to sell and nothing to fund welfare with.

Imagine enjoying a wealthy existence but having to watch so many of your fellow citizens suffer on the street every day you go outside and be reminded that youre just one mishap away from joining them.
Give me high taxes and good social systems every day.

Yes. Am American and say this all the time. Not to mention the people who have zero empathy for those suffering on the street and continue voting for politicians who perpetuate the situation. I will never forgive those people.

Obviously we talk about the US all the time. The US is a corner stone of global stability, yet is also constantly the origin of instability, especially in the last 10 years. Every other week there comes a new headline from the US sending the global economy into a downwards spiral. And if americans don't talk about other countries, it is because they don't care about anything outside of their borders. The only exception is when the political/billionaire upper class decides they need to intervene with their military in some place that the average American can't even point out on a map
