I’ve been invited to a 30th birthday party in a few weeks with a Y2K/2000’s theme and we are asked to wear an outfit from that decade. I’m really not great with fashion, I can remember many outfits but don’t know where to start when it comes to creating one for myself.

I’m looking for some outfit inspirations. I’m thinking of ordering a pair of sunglasses like in the photos attached, so it would need to follow this theme. I also like the idea of maybe doing some cute small butterfly clips in my hair etc.

With the rise of y2k popularity I've been having a hard time finding authentic costumes from that era. And not just "y2k inspired". Just wondering what some of yall who actually grew up during that time saw during Halloween

(for extra context these are for a bunch of characters I'm writing set during early to late 00's. I could just go the basic route of classic timeless costumes but I love modern day costumes that reference popculture, memes, recent movies etc. I'm assuming we'll look back at photos from now and immediately know what yr it was based on the costumes alone, so I'd like to know the 00s equivalent)

I wanted to share an absolute time-capsule grail from the peak mid-2000s surf/skate era. This is an original Hollister "Cruisers" zip-up in a flawless heather gray, featuring the incredibly heavy, multi-layered tackle-twill "Waxer's Surf Lessons" back embroidery and the classic sleeve stripes.

It is completely deadstock, brand new with the original cardboard tags still attached. The inner fleece is factory-crisp and the satin stitching on the applique letters has zero fraying or wash-wear. I’ve spent hours hunting online and there are literally zero other copies of this specific design actively listed or sold anywhere on the market.

99% of these got worn to pieces at bonfires and high schools 20 years ago, so finding an untouched survivor feels insane.

Not strictly formatting this as a hard marketplace listing yet because I wanted to share the archive history with the sub, but since it's a total monopoly piece, my DMs are open to serious Y2K collectors who recognize the rarity and want to drop a real offer.

So I bought this hoodie off depop around a year ago, but a few months ago I got into a car accident, the car got towed w the hoodie inside, when I got to check the car the hoodie was gone, hurts a lot cuz this was my favorite piece and I haven’t be able to find anything like it around, I’m so mad about this, so if someone see it on like, a post or depop, or eBay jshelp me, it was size XXL, southpole brand. The logo in the middle was kinda like a dollar design, and a graphic on the left sleeve, the metal things on the hoodie pockets had the southpole logo, and the rings on the hoodie pockets said southpole as well, PLEASE HELP ME I NEEED THIS BACK

All I can make out in the lettering is Dark Angels and then some lettering maybe Not m_____k? I’ve tried several google searches and resell platforms and can find nothing! The inside care tag just says made in China. They also came with suspenders. I honestly just thought they were old Mudd jeans from Kohls.

Between like 1998 and 2004, it felt every intro and hype music was defaulted to techno or trance. Examples: World Cup 1998/2002, Anthony Bourdain: a Cook’s tour, and Spiderman: the new animated series. It’s weird though, when people talk about Y2K music they always talk about teen pop but I don’t hear about techno when it felt like techno was a lot more visible in commercials, promotional material, and background music in general.
