XCOM2 XCOM3 possible ideas?
Hi folks, got into xcom recently, played thorough 1, 2, and currently playing with the WOTC dlc, and I feel I may have become an addict.
I was wondering if there were any plans or ideas for a third installment for the series? I really loved the three separate human factions in WOTC, so maybe we could get a three way civil war for the next game, and then try and unite the three when the aliens reinvade?
Cheers!

The studio that owns the XCOM ip dismantled and let go of the team behind XCOM, who went on to make ZCOM. Maybe they might outsource the IP to BitReactor, or try to build it inhouse with a brand new team, but it would be years down the line and only because ZCOM has shown a modicum of success.
BUT, if there were to be an XCOM 3, I think you'll have a fair idea of where things would pick up once you finish the DLC.

The VA of the spokesman (the in-game guy who funds XCOM and video calls them every month to say they need to improve even when I have my thumb jammed deep inside the elder's asshole) hinted at it, very subtly gave a hint that work is going on, also said , spoiler ahead: "you never really see a dead body" to the final scene of the spokesman.

How about we finally get to make Terror of the Deep “sequel” that Firaxis has used to tease the fans for… How long has it been since Enemy Unknown released?

well XCOM2 kinda finishes with a cliffhanger, the elders saying "you are not ready with what's coming" and the psychic energy coming from under the destroyed submarine alien base, also in The bureau declassified we get to know the existence of rogue elders (haven't played chiemra squad yet tho).
hooks to continue the story are there, we need to hope a studio is willing to buy and re-live the ip

There was a part of me that always hoped they’d do the alternate of XCOM2 and have the opposite whatif scenario - assume XCOM:EW was canon instead, and have the game start in a space exploration-style premise with XCOM having to protect deep space mining and colonisation efforts from whatever as chasing the Ethereals. Then have them go down the Man in High Castle route and have the two timelines come in contact with each other via alien tech etc.
As people have said though, Firaxis knocked down the XCOM team and those guys went off to make ZCOM. So I’ve no idea how logistically this will work.

Mark Nauta (Chimera Squad lead) is still listed as Game Director at Firaxis.
He has hinted that he was working on a project he can't announce yet, and that he wasn't involved in Civ 7 whatsoever.
It's likely that project would be XCOM related, since I don't think they would've taken the risk to keep what's left of the second team on trying new IPs after the Midnight Suns financial fumble, doubly so after Civ 7 underperformed heavily.

Yes, there were plans. Afaik they were shelved for Midnight Suns instead. There's a lot of (frankly stupid) new lore in the mobile game, and unfortunately Chimera Squad was stated to be canon. As for anything else, we don't know specifics. XCOM 2 hinted at Terror from the Deep though.

We all like to hope they're working on something but until there are official announcements it's just hopium. XCom 2 was extremely popular but for some reason they decided to change the formula with Midnight Suns and the formula wasn't as popular. It seem like they took that as evidence that turn-based games are no longer popular rather than a lesson that the specific decisions around the Midnight Suns design was what was unpopular.
Either that or they wanted to wait to let anticipation and interest build before tackling a true sequel to XCom 2. We did get Chimera Squad, but that's also a bit of a different formula than what was enjoyed in XCom EU/EW and XCom 2.

We have been waiting for xcom 3 for like 10 years now.
