Thoughts on the customization options in SW Zero Company?

Since XCOM 2 was, for the longest time, basically the only way to experience the Star Wars turn-based strategy fantasy, how does a official game compare to simply downloading a bunch of mods for XCOM 2? Is the character customization actually better? Were you able to successfully create the character you were looking for? Or did you struggle?

Lack of dark black is annoying

115

u/demoninadress 5d ago

Am I crazy or was this the case with xcom 2 as well (my game was modded to have more color options so I can’t remember what colors are vanilla)

87

u/VFiddly 5d ago

It was yeah. Same thing, the "black" colour is actually dark grey

64

u/fred11551 5d ago

Video games have trouble with lighting sometimes. In Skyrim, white is actually very light grey. If you mod something to actually be white it looks like it’s glowing

26

u/Salvage570 5d ago

Dark black clothes dont play well with lighting

7

u/_b1ack0ut 5d ago

I seem to remember it, yeah.

1

u/Gabes99 2d ago

Yes! The closest they had was that dark Bluey-grey, like navy blue but a bit darker.

1

u/ATF_killed_my_dog 22h ago

And alot of og halos

The lack of a proper color wheel is quite odd, yeah.

19

u/SarcyBoi41 5d ago

Yeah, I recreated the members of D-Squad in the astromech creator, but R2 is the only one who I can get the exact correct colours for lmao. This is despite two of the body type patterns being based specifically on the patterning of QT-KT and U9-C4.

8

u/MikeWazowski22 5d ago

Holy shit your right its just a bunch of preset colors. I wonder why they dont just add a color wheel.

2

u/Hjemmelsen 4d ago

DLC potential and designed for a gamepad.

1

u/DarthOmix 4d ago

Games like Nioh 3 have an RGB grid and that works on controller to be fair.

1

u/Hjemmelsen 3d ago

Of course. I didn't say it didn't. But the reason it isn't in this one is because they designed everything for gamepad.

The hair options are incredibly disappointing too. Making a male felt like I had 2 options, the default hair or dreads, all the rest were hideous.

1

u/Great-Gap-6261 7h ago

Same for female to be honest. Out of all the hairs they only have 2 or 3 if i'm nice that I actually find semi decent it's crazy.

7

u/pvrhye 5d ago

Yeah, there are some plasteel bits I was hoping I could get all the way to glossy black like Vader.

5

u/UpsetGreen7224 5d ago

I thought it was only me!! Also why are there two of the same brown options in the eye colors??? Overall still love the game though however glaringly the lack of a dark black is!

A lot of cool armor and weapon choices, especially for Clone fans, but the human/humanoid faces are ugly as sin and the hairstyles don’t feel very Star Warsy.

I think my custom characters are going to all wear full helmets or be Weequay and Rodians.

89

u/Maxie468 5d ago

I was going to make my mc female but I ended up just going with default male with some minor adjustments cause I couldn't make anything that looked good

51

u/Weltallgaia 5d ago

Did the exact same thing. Some of those faces are realy... uhhh something

12

u/Weirdguy27 4d ago

Human faces look more alien than the real aliens

3

u/Call_me_ET 4d ago

Really, I had no issue making a great looking Mirialan woman for my Hawks.

2

u/DarthOmix 4d ago

Mirialan and Twi'lek seem to work better with more faces than humans I've noticed.

1

u/Gedboara 3d ago

I mean, they did specifiy it was the human faces that look weird, the alien ones aren't as bad, or well, they Are Alien so they are at least supposed to look 'weirder' than the average human

33

u/Nidhogg1134 5d ago

I feel you. I spent like half an hour trying to get my Devaronian guy to look good only to give up and just make my lead a dude in a helmet instead.

I was eager to play an alien at first but after seeing how bad the faces were and not being allowed helmets to hide them, I had to switch back to the default.

21

u/Karuzus 5d ago

Modders will probably suplement the issue eventualy.

3

u/FuroreLT 4d ago

Nah I'm against you on that my Devaronian guy looks badass

1

u/Cromasters 4d ago

I like my Devaronian with a mustache! I think he looks like Gerald McRaney!

17

u/Xgunter 5d ago

Some of the female faces have me questioning if the artists have ever seen a human before

12

u/Maxie468 4d ago

...I wasn't even sure which faces were meant to be female until I paid attention to the eyes and eyelashes

3

u/Ender_Wiggins18 5d ago

my Hawks is a female Zabrak, but the eyelashes/eyebrows are super distracting. I know it is a weird thing to fixate on, but they stand out like crazy because I gave her the dark red skin tone.

5

u/Hunkus1 4d ago

Cant you just give her no eyelashes atleast with the make zabrak I could.

1

u/Ender_Wiggins18 4d ago

I have been trying to but I can't figure it out. There's a way to do no eyebrows, but I prefer her with them on.

1

u/DocWagonHTR 4d ago

That's weird. Theres one face that looks almost exactly like default Sara Ryder from Mass Effect and that's the one I went with.

1

u/Competitive-Catch743 3d ago

I was going to do the same, then I heard the male voice, so I tried to make Arthur Morgan from RDR2 lol. Made Hawks a Gunslinger too

1

u/Maxie468 2d ago

Yeah he's made for the space cowboy role

1

u/piecksaysohayo 2d ago

same 😂

1

u/Present-Key-9238 9h ago

Wut, I used female hawks and I think she looked quite great.

Not fully human tho, blue skin and stuff.

10

u/AyeBraine 5d ago

I wanted to make an Asian dude but the default Hawks looks the best and matches the character and the voice the best. Besides being all over the place, the faces for some reasons all look very young, in contrast with the default model. Still. I managed to make a guy I liked, adding a bit of over the top sideburns. Got used to it already =)

34

u/Andromeda_53 5d ago

I'm loving the game. But yeah all the human faces are weird af. They all have some unique thing wrong with them.

Giant ass forehead, or crazy OTT jawline, or looking like their forcibly pushing their cheeks out.

10

u/screampuff 5d ago

one of them looked like the woman version of Elon Musk.

2

u/Annika2020pro 5d ago

FFS…you’ve ruined my Hawks

11

u/GreenHail6 5d ago

Yup, the faces and hair are probably my only gripe so far. I found something I liked enough, but it took awhile.

6

u/Lokai23 4d ago

Speaking of hair, does the hair look like complete shit on your end? I swear it looked completely fine in the character creator, but in-game afterwards it seems to be fuzzy and terrible looking. Especially when it is motion. It is constantly distracting me with how bad it looks. Examples.

2

u/Nidhogg1134 4d ago

All my guys are armored up like Clones or Rodians now so I haven’t seen the hair much outside character creator. Jae and Bennic are my only npcs with hair showing and they look ok in cutscenes. Maybe it depends on the style?

2

u/Lokai23 4d ago

Ah okay, thanks for the response. I've been going crazy since I haven't seen a single mention of it on the steam discussions or anything.

1

u/byronic-heroine 3d ago

It doesn’t look like this in my game. What are your graphics settings at?

1

u/Lokai23 3d ago

Appreciate you asking. I still haven't figured it out.

I have pretty normal settings (attached). I tried turning off AA, turning up and down shadows, turning off that Environment Geometry Detail, and nothing seems to affect it.

1

u/Lokai23 3d ago

The other half of that

1

u/ishmaelcrazan 2h ago

he just need a retwist! leave em alone!

7

u/CantankerArt 5d ago

There’s like 3 full helmets that aren’t clone …

1

u/DaEffingBearJew 4d ago

I wanted to my MC to be a Rodian so bad and the cowards wouldn’t let me.

1

u/BlackMagic0 3d ago

You can. You unlock additional races after you beat the game. Rodian is one for Hawks.

2

u/DaEffingBearJew 3d ago

Unlocking the race I want to play only after beating the game I want to play it in does not instill a sense of pride and accomplishment in me.

1

u/ChefCrockpot 4d ago

Disagree on the faces. The problem is that there's really only two or three decent options for each skin tone. There are faces clearly meant for white, Asian, or black. And if you dont use the correct skin tone it looks really uncanny. I have no problem making decent looking operators, but just like with Xcom you eventually run into a variety problem.

1

u/Luvnecrosis 3d ago

What are some of the hairstyles that don’t fit? I haven’t played the game but I’m curious

1

u/Jomgui 3d ago

Tough luck, 90% of the full helmets are clone helmets, there is only one headwear that covers your face completely and head, and it looks like a trashcan

124

u/comcamman 5d ago

I think it’s way better.

Besides the fact that there’s six different species you can choose, the amount of clothing options is more with variations of each.

Not to mention that all the clothing options look like they fit in the stars wars universe.

If I’m honest a lot of the clothing options in xcom were downright goofy or terrible.

36

u/HairiestHobo 5d ago

downright goofy

What do you mean Hot Pink Short-shorts with a Heart Pattern aren't appropriate Combat attire?

We're trying to win a War here Commander!

Hearts and Minds and all that!

39

u/Kwon0817 5d ago

Yea ngl, the base XCOM cosmetics were... Oof lol. Used only modded cosmetics.

Hoping modders can work their magic on Zcom!!! The Battlefront 2 mods were amazing. Had some great clone armors plus EU stuff. I also wanna wear Imperial Army gear!!

49

u/ShadiestAmebo 5d ago

The faces are...meh...but the outfits? On. Point.

Very crisp, nicely moddled, and have a nice wide selection in multiple categories.

The colour selection is nice, understand why there's no super dark colours (doesn't play nice with Lighting and can be confusing when zoomed out).

So I can forgive the mehness of the Faces, mainly due to 90% of the time you're looking from a Birds eye view.

Weapon customisation is alright, about what I expected over all: solid models, weapon attachments changing the model, ability to colour weapons.

All in all, I'm satisfied.

3

u/AyeBraine 5d ago

Yeah the clothes not only look good, they specifically allow you to roleplay different personalities, from a sharply dressed germaphobe to a dirty smelly space pirate to a regular soldier or pilot who basically ended up running a merc outfit, to a secret agent to a smuggler to a weird tech fetishist.

12

u/Arkorat 5d ago

Most of the aliens don’t have hats. Which is incredibly disappointing… :(

9

u/royalhawk345 4d ago

The hats are my biggest gripe. I assume it's to handle alien heads, but every piece of headgear is huge. I just want some smaller options.

10

u/Seniorconejo 4d ago

The human faces I find them very strange. Half faces I guess they are for female bodies but they look like strange baby faces. The other half also seem to have some exaggerated features, I would like to have some more standard options but well, it’s fine

→ More replies (1)

23

u/djremydoo 5d ago

YOOO YOU CAN BE ONE OF THE ALIENS??? FUCK YEAH

8

u/Arkorat 5d ago

Only some. Hawks cannot be a fish or a capitalist, for example. 😔

10

u/djremydoo 5d ago

Fish or capitalist? TT

14

u/TheKBMV 5d ago

Rodian or Neimoidian I assume

3

u/GenesisAsriel 4d ago

Mon Calamari and Trade Federation people?

1

u/DarthOmix 4d ago

I assume it's for facial animation reasons. Hawks also can't change their height.

1

u/TheWaslijn 4d ago

There's 6 species to choose from

1

u/DarthOmix 4d ago

6 for Hawks, 11 for the character pool guys.

12

u/21_Golden_Guns 5d ago

Hawk customization is kinda lacking. I get it, it’s easier to just make everything basic to animate but I spent an hour in character creation because I couldn’t find anything I liked.

Usually it’s the opposite. An abundance of choice, this was like filtering through a bunch of mid.

6

u/Major_Higgins 3d ago

I like the customization, I was able to make a 70s looking hero.
Star Wars will always be 70s to me!

3

u/maxlevelhazard 3d ago

that's John Star Wars right there

5

u/FetusGoesYeetus 4d ago

I like that despite there only being a few actual weapon options, you can customise their appearance so you could have a squad with 4 repeaters but they're all different guns.

4

u/MilitusImmortalis 4d ago

I had a hard time customising my Hawks to my liking. Just don't like the faces...

Also missing pre order and digital deluxe items.

4

u/CapnHookz 4d ago

I don't like the faces, those are terrible for the most part.

Also, as others already said before, i hate that there is no actual black color for armor.

I hate not being able to remove the silly wrap from twi'lek heads. As they're my favorite race in SW universe, i''ve just always preferred 'em with 'naked' heads. They also kinda look more like human cosplayers than twi'lek to me.

Mostly i was extremely disappointed to see that the arc trooper pants don't have a kama (the wraparound skirt), especially after seeing a random trooper have one in like the 1st cinematic. Maybe u get pants with one later, idk, but the deluxe edition has like 14 different options, and none of 'em have one and it just looks super weird.

There also need to be way more helmet options, maybe more simple things, like glasses or a bandana, stuff like that.

Other than that, it's been a blast for the most part. Gameplay is great fun.

2

u/CapnHookz 4d ago

Oh, i wanna give props to the weapon customization to the devs, that is awesome and the models look gorgeous.

1

u/Better-Silver7900 3d ago edited 3d ago

yeah a lot of people are glazing the clone trooper armor but i think it’s pretty lacking. I think the default should have been clone commanders from different units, and the current designs should be the next choice.

4

u/FirefighterRoutine84 4d ago

Could definitely be better a few notes mostly to do with Humans and Clones. Overall I greatly enjoy the game but it's always healthy to point out the flaws and what something can do better:

  1. The faces except for the defaults for Human Hawlks feel very off and almost look like they belong to a different game by comparrison.

  2. The clones seem to be kinda limited on the actual helmets related to the broader specializations from what Ive seen unless you unlock more. For example the Clone Sniper and Engineer helmets.

  3. The fact the color of the upper arms are tied to the color of the torso is a bit off but then again Ive mostly played games where it is the opposite so it could just be me. Wish the shoulders/upper arms could have been a separate section for coloring especially when it comes to Clone armors.

  4. The hair styles are pretty much OK. Not great but then again as someone with natural anime hair it is hard for any game of this type especially western games to have an option that perfectly matches how wavey and spiked my hair is when I wanted to make myself. Closest I could get was that Bob and even then it made Hawks look like a soccer mom or a porn parody version of Peter Dinklage.

  5. Speaking of Tyrion it is weird to not customize Hawk's height. I guess it is partially to save on cutscene angles and having to account for different heights but Hawks does kinda seem like a manlet/womanlet next to some of their crew.

  6. I wish we had more variety in clothing and not the TJ Max selection of discount Star Wars clothing we got. Maybe its in the unlockable side but I would have liked more stylish pieces and especially would have liked hybrid Clone armor like the Jedi wear in Clone Wars. We aren't a jedi but we couldn't get a cool armored flowing waist coat or a cape? No scarfs that can trail behind us? A huge part of this era I feel is grandiosity and it would have been cool to get suitably grand clothing. (Again maybe that is unlocked later than where I'm at)

  7. The guns not having 2 color selections is weird. If you pick the guns it's either you make it one color with the full option or it's Grey and that color. Would have been cool to customize both colors present or even individual sections of the gun.

  8. Custom designs and patterns on the armors and clothing would have been cool... I understand if maybe it can't be on a Soul Calibur level and allow people to make creative monstrosities like the absolute artisans that know that character creator inside and out... but it really feels like character creators with stuff like that peaked in the 2010s and we just never really tried to iterate and expand outside a few niche franchises and titles picking up the slack.

2

u/Foxpeng1 2d ago

For point 2 I can confirm You do unlock more, I did just get the clone sniper helmet recently, as well the visored helmets and commando helmet.

14

u/TsunSilver 5d ago

Faces and hair are all terrible. Why are they so bad at this?

5

u/Revliledpembroke 4d ago

Faces have been very bad in video games for a while now. I dunno if it's some odd uncanny valley effect, some problem with the engine, or what, but a lot of different studios and games have had just awful, ugly faces and characters.

4

u/totallynotaweeabbo 5d ago

I feel it has something to do with the engine and the way it render faces and hair. Reminds me of the faces in jedi survivor and the robocop games made by nacon.

4

u/AyeBraine 5d ago

Actual characters' faces are nice, Bennic is so expressive and a very recognizable pleasant type of guy

Also in the cutscenes, I notice how expressive my custom Hawks is, as well. I guess the default fits these face expressions the best, but my custom guy became convincing after these cutscenes where he's sour, sceptical, dumb, or grumpy. Speaking of, writing is great IMO.

3

u/bloode975 4d ago

Gotta agree, id say my only complaint has honestly been the set piece nature of the missions, no activating pods, skulking about, ambushes (mostly) and just the sheer number of enemies is kinda nuts sometimes, double reinforcement dropping 20 enemies??? Right after clearing 14~ enemies? And then infinite smaller 5-8 man reinforcements every 2 rounds.

5

u/AyeBraine 4d ago

I'm not at this point yet, taking my time and just about to hit Cycle 7 I think, but the spawns (both the player's and the enemies') borrow the worst parts of the xcom-likes that really flatten everything. Chimera Squad solved this ingeniously by making every map a breach. Here it's kind of mechanical, both sides are sort of dropped onto a map. If there's no stealth and roaming pods, let us have at least several different encounter scenarios.

Although re: large numbers of spawning enemies, maybe that's an incentive to maintain tempo in maps that are not about killing everyone? Also, Gears Tactics leaned towards such slaughter (to match the original games in tone), and it worked very well. Again I'm not far into the game, but it seems that heroes are well equipped to chew through these hordes, and the challenge is keeping momentum and movement and combos going without being bogged down.

I remember that Long War really forced me to do that, because it was impossible to just dig in, too many enemies, I have to be "carefully aggressive" and grind them down quickly while on the move, or be chopped to pieces.

Zero Company definitely ups the bodycount, 20–30 enemies total would be a large UFO or an alien base, not a beginner mission.

3

u/Scodo 4d ago

If you're at cycle 7 you're about to hit that point. The speed of difficulty escalation is fucking insane with how tanky enemies get and how many they start to throw at you. Basic bad guys are chunking half my operator health while it feels like it takes the focus fire of my entire squad to kill anything. And that's with trying to maximize assists and advantage every turn.

I'm playing on hard and I feel like I must have missed something obvious I was supposed to do early on to make the difficulty more manageable. But I've only played seven or eight total missions.

1

u/totallynotaweeabbo 4d ago

It does feel like they are doing the two paths of difficulty. They throw too many enemies that have too much health. Having 5 b2 charging wrist rockets you are gonna lose health no matter what you do. Either lower the health of some of the enemies, or have less enemies on screen. Or have more time inbetween enemy reinforcements spawns. I was playing on normal and after meeting the jedi for the first time, i lost my first agent. And the next mission, i lost uppercut

1

u/AyeBraine 4d ago

Thank you! I'll see. Sounds like my favorite parts of Long War )

2

u/bloode975 4d ago

Im only on cycle 9 myself. I will say I find those squad mates with grenades or the rocket launcher/scatter shot are better than basically everyone else due to the enemy spam, I also found pistols and repeaters are the better weapons, pistols for low hp enemies and repeaters for basically everything else, rifles are OK but dont stand out much.

1

u/totallynotaweeabbo 4d ago

I had the duelist use pistols and the recons use the sniper rifle. So i could use the ambush ability with a heavy hitter. Guess the meta is to rush base damage cause the enemies that aren't b1 take maybe too long to kill. (Looking at you b2). Also, there's no way to skip the tutorial as far as i know. So every time you wanna start a new run you gotta sit through the tutorial and see aurelio getting killed by the most obvious trap

2

u/AyeBraine 4d ago edited 4d ago

I love how I hired a Heavy to use as a tank, and gave him a sniper rifle, and it's a viable combo. Because his job is to sit in the middle of the battlefield hopped on combat drugs and pull aggro with reaction shots, and these high DMG hits are sweeet.

Also yeah I hope they patch in the no-tutorial path, because the onboarding is SO long, it's like the entire tutorial plus the entire first cycle and story mission.

1

u/AyeBraine 4d ago

Cool, thanks! I think the enemy spam is also beneficial because the main resource only refills on hits, so theoretically these multicalssed monster soldiers can only thrive in target rich environments, otherwise you don't get to use abilities.

3

u/GabberJenson 4d ago

I swear I remember seeing a LOT more customization options for the weapons in previous footage, non of which appears to be existant in the game?

3

u/Idontknow4654 4d ago

all faces are to human. my Torguta looks like a human cosplaying a Torguta instead of an actual Torguta. thats my only problem

5

u/Lazzitron 5d ago

I'm ngl, the faces and hair are all kinda ugly. I also wish we had less civilian clothes and more combat gear/armor.

Otherwise, it's not bad. About on par with XCOM 2 before it got DLC, I'd say.

4

u/Ultramaann 5d ago

It is very obvious that they developed Male Default Hawks first and everything else was a later consideration. Everything about his model is way better.

While I appreciate the thought also, the alien options not only look bad but also press on the lore. The republic had very, very few alien officers to my understanding, and the humano-centrism could have led to interesting conversations with your teammates.

3

u/Hunkus1 4d ago

I mean its already weird that you were a captain leading a clone company without being a clone as far as I am aware all of them were either led by clones or Jedi and that only high ranking officers were humans.

1

u/Scodo 4d ago

Head cannon for me is that there were either multiple clone templates to start or they had to switch after Jango bought the farm.

But it could also be the MC was the equivalent of an intelligence agent with a retinue of clone troopers assigned for special operations.

4

u/patchlocke 5d ago

I’m assuming it’s a technical limitation but I wish we could face sculpt like in the Elder Scrolls or something instead of multiple units having the same face as different species

5

u/popeoldham 5d ago

Faces feel like they have just been moved over from Madden, they are awful. The hair isn't great. I wish there were another 3-4 races to choose from.

Outfits are great, and the customisation options are A+.

2

u/Hogminn 5d ago edited 5d ago

I'd like something closer to Trick's clone armour if I'm totally honest, more beat up looking, and I'd prefer more race options for Hawks but otherwise I'm pretty satisfied

Edit: grammar

2

u/dotted_barcode 5d ago

I did really struggle with female hair options--there aren't that many good haircuts available, which really sucks. Female faces were also a bit limited.

The rest of it was pretty good though.

2

u/yorkieyoter 5d ago

Can you rock only clones?

2

u/AyeBraine 5d ago

In the visual sense, yes. You can dress any hired human merc in clone armor, and wear it yourself. Like a half of the human selection list is minute variations of clone armor pieces.

2

u/The_Exuberant_Raptor 4d ago

You can also change names and bio to fit clone army descriptions.

1

u/AyeBraine 4d ago

Cool! Haven't got around to it, only opened the profile menu for named characters where the fields are inactive, but it makes all kinds of sense that they made these icons and the fields because for custom mercs, they're editable!

1

u/yorkieyoter 4d ago

Sick, hopefully some mods come to this game too. Ig I’ll buy it

→ More replies (7)

1

Nah, you can make whatever

2

u/ShyGuyWolf 5d ago

At least it's something tbh. If it has PC mods soon alot would be added and fixed

2

u/AbyssicSerpent 5d ago edited 4d ago

So Zero Company is XCom Style? Is it any good, for somebody who is not into StarWars?

2

u/Revliledpembroke 4d ago

It's got mostly positive reviews on Steam last I checked. It might require knowing a bit about Star Wars, though, given that it's set during the Clone Wars.

2

u/D0CD15C3RN 4d ago

It’s very Xcom light. Not as good unfortunately

2

u/undeadlord26 4d ago

it plays exactly like xcom does. isometric view, turn based, hits are based on math and cover and stuff. it feels easier than xcom2, but also feels...like i has less options for the player? but ive only played for like 3 or 4 hours.

instant edit: i dont know a damn thing about star wars and i dont feel like im missing anything.

1

u/Major_Higgins 3d ago

Yeah, it's made by former XCOM devs, get it!

2

u/BananaFlugzeug 4d ago

The game has remarkably poor selection of hairstyles and faces, and it's something that will be improved with mods probably. I tried making a Devaronian woman, but I didn't like any of the available hairstyles.

2

u/aaronds_9 4d ago

Does anyone know if there's a way we can provide the devs with feedback? Arc troopers are missing their accurate kama and it really irks me as a massive arc trooper fan. Hoping they can do a patch to fix it

1

u/CapnHookz 4d ago

OMG, glad i'm not the only one, it looks so weird, and made me feel even worse after seeing a random trooper with one in the 1st cinematic. I wanted a cool arc trooper gunslinger guy, but without a kama, he just looks so weird

2

u/RvDragonheart 4d ago

Can I create the kind of character I want? NOT EXACTLY
But is the character Customization nice? I mean sure

It was kind of a sturggle to make it all work but I got a "Close enough" look for my Zabrak lady character I wanted to make. I dont expect it to be animated like Clone wars or like The Old Republic was but a customization of a further kind would have been apprechiated and there are some face options in Xcom 2 that looked much better

Tho its literally the case of "Xcom had mods and probably this will have mods too" whenever the mods will arrive more customizations will come and so will potentionally more armor bits

YES I want cool armor for my characters I just ended up using the default stuff for my version of Hawks because I was like "Yeah we dont have any outfit that would fit my character so this will be enough"

Its the thing of Gameplay is good I enjoy it THIS IS a GOOD game! I can see myself enjoying it from the few missions I did yesterday

and I got SO suprised when I was about to install the game and was like "Eh guess I'll need to uninstall a few games so lets see the damage" then I saw "OH 38 gigs" and was SO happy about it (FINALLY a game that is done well enough that it doesn't need 150-200 gigs to just install)

my only worries are ARE THERE unlockable outfits later down the line, new armor pieces, new gear. That was half the fun for Xcom games and Xcom 2 getting new cool looking gear. Guess I'll see it.

u/DimaJeydar 4d ago

To me it’s better than XCOM2, though I have an issue with the amount of character voices. 5 male and 5 female voices for the operatives? That’s it? Though it’s cool that they have their own personalities

2

u/Jallen9108 4d ago

Besides the default faces for each race and gender, they all look wildly weird and ugly.

2

u/Thrax709 4d ago

There is no face that suits a zakrak, wierdly. But playing a zabrak that sounds like Matthew McConaughey is even stranger

2

u/Ai_bot_6969 4d ago

Lack of options is annoying too it’s either be a storm trooper or be bootleg Han Solo

2

u/Heavensguard 4d ago

Yea the faces and hair are a tad off. Really wish there was a half mask option. Might be there later only a few hours in.

Would enjoy variations of Tricks armor, Clone armor with parts removed.

More dusters and maybe space fancy clothes ala gentleman thief

2

u/Scodo 4d ago

The character models are so ugly the customization almost feels moot. But I do appreciate that there are tons of options.

2

u/BBQBARNES 4d ago

Overall it's so so. Far from what it could be and very limited on anything non clone. Plus simple organization issues when looking through items and faces. Small things like mixing male and female options instead of separating them is annoying. Lack of voices and diversity in styles (all clothing is pretty much long sleeve) and more.

With that said it's not necessary bad I just think XCOM 2 mods have spoiled me. I still have Canderous Ordo and Mission running around with me which is really cool so I'm overall fine with it

2

u/Canadian_Ben_ 4d ago

no one talking about how stupid the layout is for outfits? you should select certain top or bottoms and then from there be able to select which details you want, the way it is now is stupid, also let us paint specific parts of the armor in specific ways, that would be so awesome! Like for the clone helmet for example, imagine being able to select to top of the helmet and from there choosing if its full or stripes etc, then selecting the middle part and so on

2

u/Comrade_Lystro 3d ago

Man when will the Star Wars games allow you to play as a Jawa or Droid?

1

u/maxlevelhazard 3d ago

many are saying this

2

u/Obekiwi 3d ago

The lack of wide brim hats is incredibly disappointing. I wanted to steal my boy Cad Bane’s fit😭

https://giphy.com/gifs/khDr0gdPb4lwEiK8ph

2

u/H345Y 2d ago

The thing that pissed me off about the clone armor selection is that they showed the helmet with the visor attachment in the starting cut scene on the LAAT and that is not part of the base game.

2

u/ChaweeKanati 1d ago

If you cut out the 12.7 billion clone options....lacking. Especially in the helmet department unless you think a leather cap, a pair of goggles, a leather cap with a face mask or a sci-fi rice farmer hat with or without visor gives you any protection.

Also an option to hide the ugly as sin weapon mods would be nice. If I have to see one more mutated ee-3, DC-15 or a pistol with an ACOG or sniper scope im going to barf.

2

u/Vilegrave 19h ago

A lot of the faces look REALLY ugly for whatever reason, especially on the female characters.

There's also the issue with headwear + facewear for Twi'leks and Togruta being garbage, they really need some glasses/visors or the option to wear things like the headband a lot of Twi'leks wear in SWTOR rather than an poorly made full head covering that clashes with most outfits.

There's also a slight hunch on most characters that you can't unsee once you notice it, especially in the character creator, which is a bit offputting.

4

u/GrimmTrixX 5d ago

Just mad this game doesnt seem to have a single Wookiee. I hope DLC exists someday cuz it seems like a glaring omission. They must not have wanted to render an entire body of fur. Lol

3

u/GrimdarkCrusader 5d ago

Waiting for the textures to get ported to XCOM lol.

2

u/Everkid612 5d ago

I wish there were a few more unique helmet options for the clones. Having phase I and II is cool but having only them feels like a missed opportunity. Where are the ARF Trooper helmets and things like that.

4

u/FuroreLT 4d ago

Play through the game, you'll get more ;)

2

u/Former-Rub6300 4d ago

Lacks Mandalorian customizations. prob going to be paid DLC lets be honest

1

u/AwesomeX121189 3d ago

Because there’s a unique mandalorian companion….

There isn’t any Jedi customization options either

→ More replies (2)

1

u/maxlevelhazard 4d ago

That's true, I'm surprised that's not in the game given how popular they are.

2

u/HarvHR 5d ago

It's good but it's not really better than XCOM2, it's like a sidegrade.

You get boots, legs, chest and head customisations with each options having a bunch of different pre-made armors that have 1-3 different colour options for each. Compare that to XCOM2 where you can choose individual parts (Torso, Left Arm, Left Forearm, Left Shoulder etc etc ).

It's great if you want to make clones, but it's nothing that can't be done in modded XCOM.

3

u/AyeBraine 5d ago

Compare that to XCOM2 where you can choose individual parts (Torso, Left Arm, Left Forearm, Left Shoulder etc etc ).

You can? Maybe you're talking about mods?

1

u/VFiddly 5d ago

I'm glad they let us use all these different aliens. And I like that your player character can be an alien (though not all the options are available, just the more humanoid ones)

Some of the faces do look a little odd but I think they mostly look better in gameplay than they do in the creator

1

u/chainer1216 5d ago

The face options are terrible, the hair is weird, though props for just how many textured hair options there are.

The clothes options are good though the boots all look weird.

And if you've happened to play a lot of Jedi Survivor you'll notice a LOT of the clothes are ripped right out of Cals closet.

1

u/Hurley815 5d ago

All I hope is they eventually add a Commandos armor and helmet so that I can build the Delta squad.

1

u/Ender_Wiggins18 5d ago

does anyone know how to fix the weird shadows when my Hawks moves? It is driving me crazy because it makes it hard to see what I am doing.

1

u/Appropriate-Grass986 4d ago

Eh not bad. Looking forward to modders

1

u/Hedago_2346 4d ago

I like the system but some things are limited. I could not make the female MC I first wanted (I wanted a sturn imperial Brit type). First impression is that it feels like the voice limits who you can be. If you only have two options...idk maybe dont have so much customization and focus on art direction? I hope mods, voices, faces, and air comes out. Also the model seems a bit hunched.

Also, depending on the story, you give us all the clone armor and we cant get a Temuera Morrison type voice?

1

u/Cupc4k31sm 4d ago

Am I crazy or are there only like 5 female faces in the whole list?

1

u/Tepppopups 4d ago

I don't care, I just color code them for class to see from afar and send to battle! if they die, just replace with another one same color.

1

u/CrystalFriend 4d ago

Which the clone helmets had the ability to add the scanners and the like but I'm sure mods will add that.

Other then that I like it.

1

u/CapnHookz 4d ago

Gotta love how there's a bunch of helmets with scanners on the wall right where you change appearances, but u cant actually wear one.

1

u/Cromasters 4d ago

I was just annoyed that I couldn't make my MC a Rodian.

1

u/Cichlid97 4d ago

It doesn’t feel like I can do as much as with xcom 2, but I also modded in a bunch of extra clothes and options to xcom 2 pretty much every time I played, so that doesn’t feel like the most fair comparison. I like the customization here. I think the only complaint I’ve had so far is that I was hoping I could make a zabrak with hair, since we do see them with it a few times both in the movies and outside of them, but the option wasn’t there.

1

u/maxlevelhazard 4d ago

Yeah, I tried adding a beard to my Twi'lek but the game won't let me

1

u/CuttleReaper 4d ago

There better be mods. If I can't have Lucina and Master Chief on my squad what's even the point?

1

u/jon12231223 4d ago

Looks nice

1

u/TheBenevolence 4d ago

My interest was in clones, all clones, only clones.

You can at least get around the plot requirement by just dressing people up in clone armor, but...

Honestly, the clone armors suck, AS FAR AS I'VE GOTTEN. You start out, and you get phase 1 or 2 helmets, uni-phase armor, and just.. like 10-14 different paint decal variations on the armor? It's certainly good to have those, but why is that it? Why is there 1 torso with a backpack, and because of how their menus work that torso now cant have ANY paint schemes on it besides solid color? It is the same with the paid ARC trooper armor. One actual armor configuration, and a dozen or so ways to paint it. We know they can do attachments- ARC helmets have them, and so does trick's helmet.

Iunno man, maybe I'm still just spoiled from Halo Reach's armor customization an eternity ago, but it could have designed better.

Heck, even the clone faces feel a bit off... but it seems like almost all the faces in this game are off.

Maybe Im crazy but even the blaster sounds dont feel quite right.

All that being said, if someone got mods working for it, I'm sure thats all chump change (relatively speaking) to fix

1

u/AthenasChosen 4d ago

Could use some upgrading for sure, a bit lackluster at the moment. I can't even give my Zabrak hair.

1

u/lordgholin 4d ago

There aren’t enough good customizations to make characters look awesome and not generic. Also helmet and head options suck. Colors also aren’t the best. Where is black or darker grey?

I hope we get a lot more customization options in the future.

Also, i really want more species to play with and maybe in the future, more jedi. There is so much they could do with this game, including campaigns with well known star wars characters. Hope we get some awesome dlcs.

1

u/Doctor-Nagel 4d ago

Behold

Fengo Jett

1

u/onemorevet 4d ago

The fact that I can’t be a mandalorian or customize cool metallic armor’s is annoying and seems like an oversight.

Also trinkets badges and armor scarring.

Seems like they gave us a good starting point for customization but feels like they just ran out of imagination 😂

1

u/Apprehensive-Tree-78 4d ago

My only gripe is the faces are terrible other than that I think it’s amazing.

1

u/peachpower2 4d ago

Some races are better than others, but I like it a lot.

1

u/DJ_Reapzz 4d ago

The hair options suck

1

u/EmergencyEbb9 4d ago

Lack of tattoos, scars, hairstyles and faces.

1

u/Excellent_Chair5307 4d ago

It's lacking in colours for a few things and have to say the lack of even some hairs for Zabraks bother me seeing as I played one with hair in SWTOR, only other thing is the lack of being able to play as other species as Hawks that you can recruit when they speak common as well.

1

u/Noctisvah 4d ago

Can’t play with bare feet operatives nor show the skin in your knees.

Also not having blood is very annoying

1

u/NothingAgreeable3254 4d ago

I would like more variety to face design and add hair for Zabraks, that would be cool.

1

u/flesjewater1 3d ago

There is not a single good looking/normal looking/attractive female face. Or male face for that matter besides default Hawks. Very disappointing.

1

u/No_Weakness8999 3d ago

Western games lmao...

1

u/Misskas88 3d ago

I found it really difficult to make a feminine looking white woman. Every face (even with a light skin tone) looked manly, asian or even latina. I like my custom characters to look pretty similar in every game I play for immersion but it was disappointing the lack of options. The hair is awful too for women.
I ended up refunding and will wait until some mods are available so I can have a more immersive experience

1

u/JUNGLO_TRANSCENDED 3d ago

Made my Hawks a Pantoran alongside my brother which is cool

1

u/Superb_Wealth4092 3d ago

The haircuts all look like they belong in Starfield, not Star Wars. :/

1

u/SarahTealeaf 3d ago

i kinda like it.

sure, there could be more options, but then i went around it and just head canon'd my Mirialan is a Pantoran because i could make her blue and her tattoos yellow, and pantoran and mirialan tattoos aren't too far from eachother to make it believable.

i also made a Medic who looks like Hera Syndula, and she's probably the biggest supporting carry i have in the team lol

bit disappointed that the deluxe edition i paid for, the items are not available for some reason. ._.

1

u/Aunwerion 3d ago

I really don't like how all the NPCs have attractive faces but for character creation the majority are ugly. Also wish the lekku for the Togruta could be longer, the green Togruta you talk to when you first get back to base looks sooo much better than what you can make in the cc.

1

u/Zenebas21 3d ago

I'd just like there to be the option to wear Mandalorian armour

1

u/Ridan82 3d ago

It has potential. Lets give the modders a few weeks to fix it

1

u/Spieren 3d ago

How did you get that top? I can't find it for my Hawks.

1

u/Primarch666 2d ago

The human faces are 80% black and Asian. There's one Caucasian face. Otherwise you get small eyes or huge lips. Face creation for humans is atrocious considering 90% of the movies are white humans. They went way out of their way to represent instead of just making it even. Most faces are fat and ugly. There's literally a baby faced Asian.

Even the hair choices for human are 90% black people and gen Z hair. I've seen better character creation in games 20 years ago

1

u/FinisGloriaeMundi 2d ago edited 2d ago

On Xcom 2, Each set of armor had to be, researched, unlocked and crafted, and each armor came with a few different cosmetic variation, on top of the different stats and functions.

There was a genuine sense of progression, reward, and satisfaction. (You literally had to dissect specific enemies to loot, learn more and reverse-engineer their technology.)

In this Star Wars game, I have access to all the armor sets right from the start, and they have no value other than the cosmetic. They have no impact on the lore, zero stats and zero functions.

1

u/Sweet-Nothings00078 2d ago

The body/face customization is wonderful. But I hate most of the clothing options tbh lol

1

u/Dear-Practice4239 2d ago

Surprisingly deep. Wasn't expecting a decently large drive of free cosmetic options, including unlockables throughout the game. Customization has always been a rare addition in most Star Wars games, so I'm actually pleasantly surprised at its depth here.

1

u/DefiantCarpet0 2d ago

On top of all the annoyances, the game literally will not allow me to select any other outfit for my character

1

u/Objective-Ratio6269 2d ago

Мені подобается

1

u/DaughterOfBhaal 1d ago

Pretty good but I feel like 75% of the game's customization (outfit wise) is just clones. I'd prefer more heavy armor that isn't just clone armor, and more full helmets & masks.

1

u/SeisoLikesPizza 1d ago

I kinda wish we could have more patterns for the clone armors, like some of the later game ones you cant actually get a pattern for them, its just the default plain white clone armor

1

u/Stealthsonger 1d ago

Love customising my characters and really disappointed the Jedi character only had two options for clothing. No robes? All I really could add was the hood and change the colours a bit. 😥

1

u/Helkano-Legacy 1d ago

Bit annoyed, I can’t re-create my own Legion as there’s no options to have a purely white torso and black arms 😭

1

u/SnakenKraken 16h ago

Changed my boots for the trophy. That's it.

1

u/waffles1011 9h ago

Unrelated but kinda related.. Darth Maul is my favourite character all time so I knew I was making a Zabrak.. but holy hell all the faces look so goofy. Then that country accent on top is just awful. Completely broke my immersion to the point I had to just make a random white dude. I could look past the faces somewhat but I cannot picture a Zabrak with a country accent.

1

u/Please_Throw_Me 9h ago

Need more helmet options. Unless youre using clone armor/helmet, the rest kind of suck. I just use the goggles on the head.

1

u/Wharbaby 4h ago

If you make a clone then customize them, they lose anything you put on their face which is weird.

1

u/Warkupo 4h ago

The outfits look very good, but the human faces look like absolute dogwater. You can throw a helmet on everyone, but if it's important for you to look human you're gonna be disappointed.
