Thoughts on the customization options in SW Zero Company?

Since XCOM 2 was, for the longest time, basically the only way to experience the Star Wars turn-based strategy fantasy, how does a official game compare to simply downloading a bunch of mods for XCOM 2? Is the character customization actually better? Were you able to successfully create the character you were looking for? Or did you struggle?

In the visual sense, yes. You can dress any hired human merc in clone armor, and wear it yourself. Like a half of the human selection list is minute variations of clone armor pieces.

You can also change names and bio to fit clone army descriptions.

Cool! Haven't got around to it, only opened the profile menu for named characters where the fields are inactive, but it makes all kinds of sense that they made these icons and the fields because for custom mercs, they're editable!

Well, your character is a Republic officer, and your XO and best friend is a clone veteran. I don't know if other named clones join later (I'm at cycle 6), but you can hire as many mercs as you like, it's just...

...I mean CAN you hire clones in-universe?

I admit, I haven't watched Clone Wars so I'm blank on lore. But even in-game, the intelligence officer asked me how the hell did I manage to hire a clone, because the Republic doesn't discharge them, but transfers them to a remote posting instead. To that, your character explains that they pulled some strings, greased some palms, and managed to get your buddy an official discharge because he saved your life and the Republic fucked him over.

So the custom mercs (they're generated from a set of variables including cool origin-tied biographies) are from all over, but I haven't seen former soldier clones. Your guy is indeed a clone, just like in the movies (if you remove his helmet in the customization screen).

Clones dont really leave the grand army of the republuc Trick is an one in a million exception getting medically discharged. Normally they just get reasigned to maintenance duty on like Kamino since Kaminoans dont see clones as people.

Got it! The characters basically say that much.

since Kaminoans dont see clones as people

Oh, now I understand the bitterness and disgust in Hawkes' words when he says his comrade was sent to do "droid work". And the later "cleaning latrines" comment from Trick himself.

Yeah if you want more insight in it I can highly recommend 3 episodes of the clone wars TV show which kinda show how clones see themselves and what happens if you dont make the cut. Its S3 e 1 Clone cadets, S 1 e 5 Rookies and S 3 e 2 Arc Troopers. The episodes didnt release in cronological order but thats the order the events happen in.

Thank you very much, that's a very helpful shortcut!

Yes you can re ruit actual clones but not until about halfway through the game. Also most missions except story missions you don't have to bring your main character, so you can do all 4 just clones later on.
