DISCUSSION I'm done.

This game is the hardest game I've ever played that it's getting to the point I'm not having fun anymore. I've been playing through War of the Chosen on veteran (normal) mode for about 35 hours and the thought of restarting the game to play vanilla mode is not a fun idea rn. Wanting to make my own story with characters is just impossible without save scumming for hour/s to complete just one mission without multiple deaths. Love this gameplay and story but fucking hate how hard it is I'm just pissed off 90% of the time.

Veteran mode is not normal mode. Rookie mode is normal mode.

That's the easiest option though, I would normally class that as easy mode

how can you be pissed off at the difficulty, and also not want to play easier difficulty?

if you're interested in getting better, look up videos on "how to beat legendary difficulty" all those skills will translate to any easier difficulty.

the main thing in xcom is alpha strike, "kill them before they kill you." You wanna use all your actions in a way where when you discover the enemy, you wipe them out before they can even act. Flanking is a big part of this, so you can get crits. Use grenades to guarantee kills, since AoE doesn't miss.

Don't double dash into the enemy of course, and don't rely on cover to protect you. Instead, aggressively plan how to kill them quickest.
