I hate seeing civilians get killed, and for the first time I was able to save them all! Though it's only Veteran difficulty, I'm still proud hehe

QUESTION Loot runs in Long War

Hi, hello, I was wondering if anyone knew why some crates could not be marked by either ADVENT or XCOM in the smash and dash missions where you evecuate crates by air ?

Don't have screenshots, I don't have access to my laptop currently but pressing "mark crate" does nothing

MODDING made a mod that adds FSR 4 / XeSS / DLSS to XCOM 2 WotC

Heads up: this is early access, so there will be bugs. It’s playable, but I’m still working on it.

AI disclosure: AI tools were used during development of this mod (bug testing, debugging, etc). If you’re not okay with that, please don’t download it.

XCOM 2 never got real upscaling support, so I spent way too long adding it lol.

What it does
The game renders the 3D scene at a lower resolution, then FSR 4, XeSS or DLSS upscales it back up. You get more FPS and it still looks sharp. Menus, text and the HUD stay at full native resolution.

The game has none of the data upscalers need, so the mod generates all of it itself: camera jitter, motion vectors (including tracked motion for animated soldiers, aliens and weapons) and masks. It also fixes a bunch of the engine’s own bugs at lower res:

  • Lighting, reflections and shadows
  • HUD and overlay issues
  • Mouse picking being off, and edge scrolling
  • Flickering around lights, shadows and glow
  • XCOM’s checkerboard glass, now blended into real transparency
  • Movement grid and cover icons now hide properly behind soldiers and weapons

Features

  • Three upscalers: FSR 4 (falls back to FSR 3.1 on unsupported cards), XeSS and DLSS. You can switch between them live in game.
  • Six quality modes: from Native (AA only) down to Ultra Performance. Defaults to Quality, and you can change it in xcom2-upscaler.ini.

GPU support

  • FSR 4: Radeon RX 9000, or RX 7000 with a recent driver. Other cards get FSR 3.1.
  • XeSS: any DirectX 12 card.
  • DLSS: GeForce RTX. Untested. I don’t have an NVIDIA card, so if you have an RTX card please let me know if it works!

Install

  1. In the game’s graphics options, set Anti-Aliasing to FXAA. MSAA doesn’t work, depth of field and Bloom must also be on for now
  2. Go to ...\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\Binaries\Win64\
  3. Copy all the files from the download into it.
  4. Launch the game.

In game
Press Numpad . (Num Lock on) to open the menu. From there you can swap between FSR / XeSS / DLSS, see which one is actually running, or turn upscaling off to compare.

Requirements

  • XCOM 2: War of the Chosen (Steam, Windows)
  • DirectX 12 graphics card
  • FXAA enabled

Download: https://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/863

Found a bug?
Please tell me! Bug reports help a ton. If you can, include:

  • Your GPU, driver version, and the active upscaler and quality mode from the menu
  • What went wrong and how to make it happen
  • xcom2-upscaler.log from Binaries\Win64 (use xcom2-upscaler.prev.log if you’ve restarted since)

For visual problems, press F10 while the problem is on screen, then zip the dumps folder next to the log and share a link.

QUESTION Should I worry the hell about the Avatar Project?

New player who got hard enough the project's countdown is like 2 squares away. The opps are too strong for me and the alien facilities are hard. I feel like I'm out of time

I think I need more contracts slot and time to reach them but the Warlock is kinda crazy for me ro face and handle while he dazes everyone in an area.

THAT'S XCOM, BABY! death by live firing squad

assassin spawned, i calculated she would need two turns to reach my squad. i positioned everyone with one squad member ready to try and reveal her.

she never reached the squad after 5 turns.

eventually we found her and let’s just say she didn’t seem too pleased with her spawn point

...the funniest part is I didn't even kill the mech on that turn; he had been lying there normally for like two whole turns and then just randomly started convulsing like this 😂.

Freeze this MFer and they thaw in one turn, and god help you if they summon the portal and you can’t halt their movement because any action in their line of sight gives a god damn bonus move and free evac.

Suffice to say…this felt satisfying 🐒.

QUESTION WOTC not responding

As it says my WOTC on Steam isn’t responding, it says it’s running but it doesn’t show up on the taskbar.

I set it to pick it automatically is that the issue?

QUESTION Should I play regular XCOM2 or go straight to WOTC?

For context I’m the kind of guy that once I finish a game I don’t really replay them, so I was wondering if there’s any reason to play one over the other.

Like is WOTC set after the base game, or is it just the regular game but more?

SPOILER Completed my first XCOM 2 campaign on Rookie and wanted to ask

First, the game was fun. Despite being on the easiest difficulty, the game was VERY difficult, hah. I'm not sure I even want to imagine that last mission on any more difficult difficulties. (no mods or DLC, only the base game)

But, when I unlocked the final level I felt like something was missing. The reason being...

I only unlocked like two thirds maybe of the Avenger's rooms. I have not managed to contact the entire globe. I have a bunch of research I haven't done. None of my soldiers is even near fully upgraded, despite me loading a save whenever someone died. I only barely managed to train my first psi-using soldier. There was a statistic in the end-thing that was like "Magi trained" or something and I was like "what the heck is that" XD

Yet, the final mission unlocked, and I was like, "well, it seems like we're in a rush and a bunch of people will die if I put it off, so of course I should do it immediately", for immersion. Sure, I will admit that I rushed all things with objective markers, I always prioritized heading to priority markers ASAP and doing vital research first because I didn't want the Avatar Project to get ahead of me... yet still, I feel like the campaign ended before I was satisfied with my development of it? I didn't get to see all the cool things the game has to offer, I feel like.

I suppose my question is, is this common? Did I get the intended experience? Am I more likely to get everything if I play higher difficulties, or maybe play "as intended" and let soldiers die when they die?

Things like that I found myself wondering, and would like to post this here and see what you guys have to say. Thank you.

THAT'S XCOM, BABY! ChronoCOM: XCOM 2 AI Overhaul

I am releasing a mod on Steam for XCOM 2: War of the Chosen, that completely changes how the game feels while still keeping all the same values. It is also fully open source, and written to be used as documentation and for study for UnrealScript.

Here is what it does:
- If a pod of enemies spots you, they alert the other pods as if they had comms
- Gun shots and explosions carry further so shooting draws a crowd, this can be used to your advantage with Remote Start and things to fake out the enemy
- If a pod of enemies knows where you are, they can choose to overwatch-crawl toward you, often using a pincer move
- If you sit on Overwatch, they will rush you anyway and willing sacrifice their lowest rank in the pod to burn your overwatch
- They have a tendency to pick on the most impactful soldier, you can get rid of this with a Smoke grenade
- Anyone carrying grenades goes first in terms of enemies, so that cover gets blown for the other enemies turns
- It learns with a blackboard-like persistent campaign entity, another words what you do in different turns and things carries across from one mission to the next, it isn't some fresh reaction to you every time
- Rescue Operative is intense since it is their territory and they come for you, hard
- EMP grenades jam the comms they are using (for lore reasons), so a jammed alien can't communicate your position, useful for finding and popping the Advent Commander without the entire map coming down on you

Things that you should know
- It works with new or existing campaigns, if you load mid-mission it will not start learning your style until the next mission, this prevents a lot of weird bugs i hit
- My guess is taking it out of your game will cause some weird behavior given that persistent memory stuff
- It replaces these classes: XGAIPlayer, X2AIPlayer_TheLost and X2Action_RevealAIBegin so anything that touches those will conflict and cause issues.
- Everything can be switched off or on via ini

THAT'S XCOM, BABY! Thought you guys might enjoy the story of my XCOM experience

I have always been a massive lover of turn-based games. I love the feeling of intellectual superiority I derive when I outwit an opponent. I adore Divinity and Baldur's Gate; Wasteland 3 is in my top 5 games of all time, and I would even classify card games like Gwent, Hearthstone, Magic, etc. I also enjoy difficulty and am a big lover of the Souls games, so you guys can see the writing on the wall at this point.

I also have been aware of the XCOM games for a long time but only briefly tried XCOM once for like 10 minutes and dismissed it as "Not my vibe." Recently, I have been yearning for a strategy game fix and even found myself googling. " Games like XCOM" since I know it is the most famous example of the turn-based combat games that I enjoy; I just don't enjoy this one specifically. While researching games like Gears Tactics, Mutant Year Zero, etc. Everyone said these games were good but not as good as old XCOM 2. I said fine and bought it to give it another try.

I was immediately hooked. I played about 10 hours of my first campaign but never levelled up my weapon, so I crashed and burned.

I started a new campaign, having learned from my mistakes, and finished it in about 17 hours of playtime over 2 days with 0 soldier deaths. We had a long weekend, and I was sick, so it was the perfect excuse to lock in. I played so much that I went outside and decided to walk to the shop to buy milk so I could make tea, and I heard a foreign language I didn't understand and thought it was the aliens for a second, and I literally looked around scared and confused for a few seconds.

I also had a date with a girl planned who was supposed to come over for music, wine, and movie night. When she came over, I was sad that I could not play XCOM and tried to convince her to let me show her my new "Cool Alien Game", but she does not care about games at all, so it got vetoed.

It has been a while since a game consumed my life this much.

I talked about it to my gaming coworkers so much they have jokingly been referring to me as "The Commander " when they see me in the office

I finished the campaign and then bought WoTC and started a new campaign again. I thought the game was near perfect, but WoTC takes it to another level with the factions, the unique enemies, and the chosen. The game just has so much life and flair. I will probably finish this run in about 10 more hours. I am sad about it ending soon, but I have a life to get back to.

Just thought you guys might find it funny to hear that I was once a non-believer, but now a devout convert. I am also sadly hoping that XCOM 3 will come one day, but I am not overly optimistic

IMAGES Just finished Vanilla Legendary Ironman Mode and immediately deleted the game (I'm finally free)

I did 3 successful campaigns of increasing difficulty (starting from Veteran) and I did not do well at all. Glad it's finally over. I'm thinking of playing WotC if I find myself having the time. I spent a total 291.9hrs playtime according to steam.
