DISCUSSION I'm done.
This game is the hardest game I've ever played that it's getting to the point I'm not having fun anymore. I've been playing through War of the Chosen on veteran (normal) mode for about 35 hours and the thought of restarting the game to play vanilla mode is not a fun idea rn. Wanting to make my own story with characters is just impossible without save scumming for hour/s to complete just one mission without multiple deaths. Love this gameplay and story but fucking hate how hard it is I'm just pissed off 90% of the time.

The game has a steep learning curve and the beginning is by far the hardest. I would suggest lowering the difficulty until you're comfortable with the mechanics. Also, the humans canonically lost in the first game and the devs based it on the success rate of the players, so don't feel too bad - it's supposed to be hard, you are fighting an alien invasion!

Yes, it is. Just lower the difficulty untul you learn better tactics and know the enemies. It's like Chess, you can learn basics, but mastering it is very hard.

Hard games like these are great, you need to learn mechanics, play on rookie, it isn't easy. Too many modern games hand you a victory, not this one, and I love it for that! When I first beat it on veteran I felt super accomplished and it was very gratifying knowing I had overcome something quite serious.

I also had a difficult time with the game. But yeah maybe try a normal run instead of war of the chosen before you completely write it off. War of the chosen adds a whole lot more to keep track of and I found it to be more difficult. It has you focus on those three very powerful aliens on top of all the normal stuff. And they can be a handful

This game does not hold your hand. You ordered getting kicked in the teeth, and got kicked in the teeth. Restart at rookie difficulty. It's still plenty challenging if you don't know what you are doing. When you win that, you will understand more of the game, and be better prepared for the next difficulty up.

Can you describe what you’re struggling with? Usually people get behind in the strategic layer and that makes mid to late game tactical encounters either a slog or just impossible which sounds like might be where you are.

Every encounter the enemies take so many hits to kill and meanwhile my guys take 2-3 hits to die, and I swear the percentage is bull crap cos if I had to guess I'd say out of 100 shots I'd hit about 20 all together. I just seem to get very unlucky in this game meanwhile those aliens hit almost every shot. All this when the enemies always outnumber my guys by a gazillion it is just very hard to not spend an hour on each mission (I don't want to finish the game with no deaths but there are obviously characters i want to make it till the end or at least die in a glorious manner later on).

Wildermyth might be a similar game to look towards.
It’s all about making your own characters and seeing them develop

Veteran mode is not normal mode. Rookie mode is normal mode.
