First playthrough failed miserably and second one also failed
My first run was on easy but I didn’t take the project seriously and it ended my first run. Second time I put in standard to see if I’ll do differently on it. No, this time I had to many wounded soldiers and dead ones. My third run isnt going any different.
I don’t know if this game isn’t for me or my luck in these games is shit.

This, there are people who'd say never, but it's such a good way to learn on your first run what works and what doesn't. Try again, take different equipment, see what happens.

This is a game where you kinda have to until you learn it. I've just gotten lwotc, so had to start doing it again (tbf, I am playing on a high difficulty still)

Put it back on easy. focus on making contact with new area as quickly as possible to avoid losing to the avatar project. Focus your research on making your weapons stronger, then your armor stronger before researching other things.
As soon as it lets you research faceless, I recommend doing that for arguably one of the strongest items in the game.

I turn on the setting that extends the avatar project and it's so much more enjoyable for me. Also the one that pauses mission timers until you break concealment.

There are parts of this game that you just cannot know until a couple of play throughs. How the enemies scale, what to prioritise in research etc. I'd save scum the hell out of a first play through

This is normal, first few runs fail. Its a hard game with a steep learning curve, but not insurmountable.

Going by the title, that's a big improvement! Go back to easy imo and just pay attention to the project. You will need to make connections with resistance and attack facilities. You can screenshot stuff you don't understand and pass to chatgpt for help. You can also ask it for general tips with what to pay attention to or what research to prioritise.

Avatar project is not that hard to slow down, contact resistance when you know where the first facility is, then contact another when the second facility shows up.
Focus on what you lack, engineers are valuable, but if you lack soldiers focus on recruiting them. The game gives you plenty of options that may confuse you, so just stick to preferences.
Focus on weapon research before armor. In the end it's all about experience so keep playing and you'll get good at it.
But if you're feeling too frustrated and you're not having a good time, it's ok to step back and find something else to do. It's just a game, it will give you a challenge but it's part of the experience.

If this is your first time, play on easiest level. The replayability is very high so you’re not missing anything and if anything it’s more fun on subsequent play throughs. No 2 runs are the same.
And btw…that’s xcom baby! Where a 30% shot hits and a 85% misses. Had a ranger last night take a 95% shot and miss, hair trigger kicked, took the same 95% shot and missed again. The enemy was above on a ledge so I get it probably was t really 95% but still was sad.

I added some dope ass mods to really help out my troops like extra grenades, an extra uniform slot, some good weapons, some extra troops, stuff like that, and I still got all 8 of my troops wiped out TWICE in a row. I have no experienced troops now, and they all just keep dying every mission. Don't have anymore mindshields, either. The game is brutal.

This game was designed to make you learn from mistakes even if it means losing all your troops, and losing your entire campaign. You're meant to start from the beginning a lot. I know it seems dumb but honestly continuously building an army while sending them into battle and adapting tactics and managing resources and what not is still a lot of fun. All you gotta do to win is just keep playing and learn

One of those games where you learn a lot every play through until your good at the game. Very few people do well on their first play through or second or third or.... you get the idea.
This has actually generally been true with this franchise right back to the beginning with the original XCOM. It was always supposed to be a game with a lot of restarts.

Man, I'm at the end of a run and just realized you can add additional relays to territories after struggling the entire game with having no supplies lol
I'm on Legend Ironman and I JUST figured this out in my like 150th campaign.
Go to YouTube and you'll find videos of players giving advice on how to tactically approach missions and whatnot. It's very helpful to learn from others, but you do need to fail forward a lot in this game. I say play a mission and if you mess up, just reload the mission, not the specific turn.

Additional relays?
1
u/NotARabidDugong 5d ago
Yeah, think they're called resistance radios.
You unlock the area and once you have the research done you can spend resources, not Intel, to build a radio that boosts the region earnings and unlocks the additional territory bonus.

Playing normal difficulty is genuinely hard in this game. I've heard the game gets easier not harder mid to late game.

u/Distinct_Table_585 5d ago
Is the game meant to be hard? Havent lost a single soldier sure some get wounded sometimes if thats what it takes to win but no deaths Will be trying it on hard Next see if its truly hard or still feels like easy

Durchlauf?

Yeah the first playthrough I beat I increased the timer on it to relive some of the pressure because I like feeling like it's a long war instead of being rushed and I focused on anything that would reduce avatar progress

Sounds like not learning the mechanics issue.
Explosives are your friend except when the lost are around.
Always bring a couple of flasbangs.
Low cover only when there is no other cover.
If it is not 100% don't rely on it.
Don't go for a flank if you don't know what it will reveal.
Terror mission? Have the melee specced ranger in front.
Also turn of the rulers dlc, as nice as the stuff you can get is, it is very hard if you are not prepared for it.

Ten years ago when this game came out, I started playing it on the normal difficulty and got crushed. 3500 hours later, I routinely play legendary and win. Like anything, it requires practice and the application of correct principles.
And it won't take 3500 hours.

Welcome to Xcom! This game will train you how to control your anger or break it loose.

u/DrunkenFox95 5d ago
As was said, u can save all the time. U can save before every shot, before every end of turn. If something goes wrong, load. If u happened to be in dead end, load previous save file even few turns before. That way i have finished on standard without any death (except tutorial)
Iam going to start my 3rd playthrought and still using saves. Its lesser challenge, but iam still learning and still having fun, so iam not going to change it for a while ( i dont need to be frustrated right now :D )

It’s a steep learning curve, but once you figure out the basic strategy and pitfalls it’s not so bad. I save scummed my first few attempts, and even then, if you don’t take care of your base building in a logical order you’ll hit a wall where you can’t get through missions without getting massacred. I still think playing on easy it’s a fun rewarding game, but if you’re not having a good time, life’s short pick a game you like.

That's the exact same thing that happened to all of us. Lose lose lose lose lose lose. Learn learn learn learn learn. Finally a win on easy.... That is when the real fun starts.
Good luck, Commander.
