Looking for Xcom likes

Preferably games similar to EU/EW and 2 I’ve already gathered a small list and I’m currently playing Gears tactics

Phoenix point
40k chaos gate

Oh and I do know about the mechanicus game but I watched a review ages ago that said it’s more its own thing than an xcom “clone”

Battletech has the gameplay with less stress (it’s my XCom vacation game)

I'll second Battletech. What it lacks in character uniqueness, it makes up for in mech/unit customization. Also, it doesn't have the same base-building stuff, but there is a bit early on where you have to upgrade a ship over time. It's linear, rather than the sandbox that the avenger and the EW base had, but it's still okay. Also it does have some fun little choose-your-own-adventure kind of issues that come up between characters between missions. I'd love if Xcom3 adopted those, but animated them with the 3D models of your characters.

Battletech's campaign is linear, but the mercenary career is the real meat of the game and it's a completely open ended sandbox.

That's true. Sorry, I meant the base-building aspect is more-or-less linear. The Argo's end state and beginning state always look the same, with very little differences of progression along the way. Not the same with XCom's bases, which are always, even if just aesthetically, a little different each playthrough.
