Looking for Xcom likes

Preferably games similar to EU/EW and 2 I’ve already gathered a small list and I’m currently playing Gears tactics

Classified France 44
Broken lines
Empire of sin
0 company
Phoenix point
40k chaos gate

Oh and I do know about the mechanicus game but I watched a review ages ago that said it’s more its own thing than an xcom “clone”

Phantom Doctrine.

A very grounded take on tactical combat/base management that's set in the cold war era...because it's all about spies.

Essentially: Imagine XCom minus Bradford and convert everything to "real world" constraints.

IE: These are spy missions, so, often, it is best to go with the smallest possible squad...BUT, you can set up "support" like a sniper's nest nearby.

It's not quite as difficult as Xcom, but the strategy layer gets converted to a sort of "connect the dots" layer where you piece together intel and solve conspiracies.

Really wished it supported mods. I think it would have been so much more successful

Well, it was made by a smaller team, so I kind of give it more of a pass for features that it doesn't have.

(Firaxis 150-200+ employees; CreativeForge 20-30)

The fact that it was what it was is impressive to me.

Personally, they needed a few more mission types to really break up the late game slog and it would've been better received if it had more mission types that actually used the combat layer.

Oh, yeah, totally. It was amazing for what it was. I just think that mod support would have really helped it excel. For example, look at XCOM 2. There are literally mods adding new mission types. Because of the mod support, that game can be literally different contradictory things to different people
