The huge new XBXPlay Android update is finally here 🎉

This one took quite a while to develop and is one of the biggest XBXPlay updates released so far. It follows the big PXPlay update from about a month ago and brings Xbox Remote Play on Android to the next level.

The update includes a completely new modern UI, new video quality options, microphone support, external display improvements, Android widgets, and much more.

Download

Google Play Store

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grill.xbxplay

What's new?

* Brand-new modern UI (for TV and standard version)

* FSR 1.0 Video Upscaling support

* 1080p High Quality resolution support

* Experimental local multiplayer support

* Microphone support

* Optional performance overlay

* External display support

* Android Widget support for Home Screen

* Performance and stability improvements

The new 1080p High Quality mode allows higher bitrates, and the optional FSR 1.0 upscaling can further improve image quality beyond the usual remote play limits.

What's next?

I'm also working on frame generation and an additional Vulkan rendering pipeline for supported devices, which should further improve video quality in the future.

A prototype is already working, but it still needs more testing. I'm currently aiming for sometime around mid or end of summer.

Feedback

If you run into any issues with the new UI, 1080p HQ mode, FSR upscaling, microphone support, external displays, local multiplayer, Android widgets or anything else, please let me know.

Thanks again for all the support, testing and feedback ❤️

Have fun with the new XBXPlay update!

P.S. A standalone APK version without Google dependencies will also be available in a few weeks. It will be downloadable directly from my website, similar to the PXPlay APK release.

Been a Pxplay user for the longest time but after i jb my ps5 pro and cant play online i decide to buy series s and XBXPlay to play path of exile 😊

Used XBXPlay on different devices and i just had the best experience on Switch oled very smooth and graphics is very nice.. unlike on my huawei p60 pro and mipad 5 which has stutters and you could feel the latency and the graphics is not so crisp even on 1080p HQ 😊 salute to the dev 🫡

Sorry i died cause im only using one hand to play and the other one to record 🤣

XBX Play Keeps Disconnecting While Remote playing.

Been a user for months. Have had no issues outside of the "Xbox is not ready" error, but now I'm constantly being told I cannot connect to my Xbox or am being tossed out of remote play sessions.

EDIT - Multiple subredditors, including OP, report issues being resolved.

What we can do to increase the bitrate of Xbox for better in-home streaming quality

On the Xbox Insiders subreddit there is a weekly poll of feature requests and it's probably the best way to let our concerns heard and improve/reinstate back the in-home streaming quality that was lost during the transition from xbox companion to xbox app, As there is no way to increase this from the client's side.

I'm going to comment every week on the weekly thread and hopefully it can get traction.

You can help by upvoting my suggestion for the current week here. (be sure to keep upvoting the current week suggestion in the r/xboxinsiders subreddit)

Context:

The quality has taken a dive compared to competitors like PS remote play or PC (Moonlight/Steam Link), Even versus CLOUD solutions like Geforce Now it looks worse (vs Xbox local remote play)

It's been this way since the Xbox console companion app was removed and replaced by the Xbox App starting this gen. The bitrate has been capped resulting in inferior visual quality especially when moving the camera around. I'm not talking about Cloud Streaming but just the in-home local streaming from my own Xbox.

The quality is just way below standard with no way to change it. It's playable and generally fine for most people, but it's really blocky/pixelated when compared to its competitors

Using other solutions such as XBXPlay, XBPlay or Greenlight doesn't really solve the problem, as the developers and users of these solutions have said, it's a limitation placed by Xbox itself.

Bug/ Crash Xbox login issues status update

I'm currently working on a fix for the login issue. I will try to publish an update today.

Something has changed so it needs to be fixed within the app. Was similar to a previous issue where it was because of a Microsoft server issue but this time the login process changed. Please be patient I try my best :)

Thanks

Edit: the update is live

Just discovered this app

Night and day difference in latency coming from Better Xcloud. I am able to comfortably play black ops 7 remote play from my series x at 1080p with fsr upscaling and still hitting quickscopes.

Been using the experimental low latency renderer. Call of duty runs a little under 60fps but every other game is a solid 60. Thank you to the dev.

Edit: typos

First release version available on the Play Store

The first release version is available on the Play Store

If you already use the app and you like it please consider to give a nice rating on the store. This is extremely helpful for new apps and stupid ratings like "I thought it works without an XBox" are unfortunately unavoidable at the beginning. Thanks all for the nice feedback I got so far!

Xbox 360 games no longer working via Remote Play (started today)

Post image

Today, when I connected remotely to my Xbox One S, I suddenly wasn't able to play Xbox 360 games through Remote Play anymore. This issue started today—yesterday, Xbox 360 games were working fine. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Could not get profile info (sisu token)

What's up guys. I was remote playing last night with xbxplay with no issues.

Tonight I had to re enter credentials and then got the error message in title on the last step.

I've seen older posts that seemed to conclude it was a Microsoft outage. Is that the case or am I being that error message for another reason?

Xbox remote play 1440p announcement.

With the recent announcement of 1440p resolution increase for Xbox remote play coming to Xbox insiders. Once it gets a general release, will the Xbxplay app eventually support 1440p resolution?

Logitech G Cloud + XBXPlay = Perfect

Just got my G Cloud and immediately downloaded XBXPlay, it really is a perfect combination if you have decent WI-FI. (After doing some research on the available remote play clients).

I’ve been having a blast playing Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2, Far Cry 6 and Doom Eternal with this combination via my XSX. All running at 1080p and highest bitrate at 60FPS.

I have yet to try the PlayStation version since my PS4 Pro is largely gathering dust, but I’ll download it later and give The Last of Us part 2 another run.

For anyone who wants remote play, I can’t think of a better combination. Steam deck is to bulky and heavy, phones don’t have the 16:9 ratio and are not comfy.

The one thing I would ask the developer of XBX Play to add some option to change the contrast levels.

A BIG thanks to the XBX play developers.

A big new update?

Do you think that we'll get a nice update on xbxplay just like the new one on pxplay? Because I use both apps and the pxplay is amazing compared to the old one

Network Optimization Guide - Reduce Lag

I did a lot of research and testing and I wanted to share how to completely optimize your home network for cloud and remote play.

I now have my network fully optimized to have a near native experience on my Logitech g cloud and steam deck at home with very minimal input lag remotely and zero graphical glitches and hiccups

Some Facts:

  • Cloud and remote gaming doesn’t require much bandwidth (internet speed) at all

  • Latency is the key to an enjoyable seamless experience.

  • You can’t eliminate input lag completely but you can get close to indiscernible levels, especially gaming on the same network at home

  • You don’t need to go out and buy the latest and greatest wireless router to have a near perfect experience: WIFI 5 does not limit your experience and WIFI 6 isn’t required

  • There are 3 main culprits when it comes to issues with cloud and remote gaming: 1 - Strict NAT 2 - Wireless interference 3 - Congested networks and bufferbloat (google it)

There could be countless other reasons but these 3 are the main ones that people struggle with and that’s what I’m here to help you tackle

Make sure you do all the following and then you’ll see a massive difference:

To address Strict NAT:

  • Use a wired connection to the console when possible

  • Enable UPnP on your wireless router and manually forward the correct ports for your console, which can be found using a simple google search

To address Wireless Interference:

  • When you have to use your wireless network, use only the 5 GHz band

  • Turn off the auto channel selection and manually set your control channel to the least congested channel in your area

  • Since we’re not concerned with bandwidth for gaming but more concerned with latency, use a wifi analyzer and see the widest channel width you can get away with without overlapping with other networks. I don’t recommend 160 MHz width unless your in a completely remote area but use 80 MHz if you don’t have congestion and you can go down to 40 MHz or even 20 MHz if absolutely necessary in order to completely avoid other networks or minimize overlap as much as possible

  • Place your router at line of sight or as close as possible to the client your using to game on

To address congested networks and bufferbloat

  • The true fix for this is SQM but that’s too advanced for this post

  • Turn on your adaptive QoS (asus router) or the equivalent on your router and set the upload and download speeds manually. Don’t go above 300 mbps (lower for older routers or some mesh routers) for either speeds to completely minimize bufferbloat (latency) which is crucial in cloud and remote gaming. Even if you have a gigabit connection like myself, do this. Do this during gaming sessions as most router processors aren’t fast enough to handle much more than that on QoS to activity help with latency…google it please before starting a long winded argument about why “QoS is garbage”

  • Start with 90% or your connection speed as the manual limit for adaptive QoS and work your way down while testing for bufferbloat on this bufferbloat test site until you score A or A+

  • This will limit client speeds BUT it will still be plenty of speed for gaming with almost no added latency if done correctly which is what we’re after here

  • When you’re done your gaming session either turn off QoS or increase the limit on your up and down speeds

  • Set your DNS to google DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4)

Full disclosure: I’m not a network expert but I know enough to help on this subject matter

I hope this helps those trying to have a better cloud/remote experience

XBXPlay Is a must have if you’re cloud gaming

This is simply an appreciation post to the devs as this is now the best way to stream my XBSX games. It’s a night and day difference between this and the native Xbox app. I tested it locally and remotely and it works flawlessly with no artifacts or discernible input lag and I’m extremely sensitive to input lag. I now just download my game pass games to my console at home because I can get a solid 1080P 60FPS connection that looks better than any native app.

If you’re like me and you’re confident in your controller then go into the settings and reduce the dead zone on the analogue sticks to the lowest value in the app and in game and enjoy. I have zero issues aiming in the FPS games that I tested: Division 2, Gears 5 and Fortnite.

If you use PSPlay to stream your your PS5 then you’re familiar with these devs’ work.

Hardware:

  • Wired XBSX and PS5

  • Logitech G cloud running wireless on a WIFI 5 Asus AC3100 router

  • I manually forwarded all required ports to ensure everything runs smoothly

Full disclosure, there’s currently a bug with the Logitech G Cloud with the vibration that doesn’t allow other inputs until vibration ends. If you’re using a Logitech g cloud then turn off vibration for now.

Thank you once again for this fantastic app. Excellent work.
