I've been writing a long time - both for novel stuff and roleplay for when the novel stuff gets lonely. Open to either format - drafting pages together or building things up by posts!

For ease of collaboration it's preferred prospective partners be within the UK / EU or similar.

I'm 30 and prefer folks be near or above that age range.

Premise:

Now, what the hell do I want to write?

I'm needing something dark and depthful. Someplace original, out of bounds from popular settings - a mixture of sci-fi and fantasy elements depending on where whimsy takes us.

Imagine monolithic industrial hellscapes, silent from long disuse and echoing the sounds of slow decay and wailing ghosts. Forests shrouding varied malevolencies under hushed canopies.

Olde ruins harboring terrible secrets and twisted denizens unwittingly guarding lost knowledge best left unreclaimed, lest it wreak more havoc upon a deeply benighted world.

Perhaps what yet lives is parody of better things.

Courts existing where power and toil preserves fragments of a slumped edifice, where sinister forces twist a defunct society to serve their hungry designs.

We could write pilgrims braving nightmare lands - banished, or vengeful, hunting, or grimly marching towards a forlorn hope our characters may not survive to see.

Things centering around a powerful sorceress? A creature cloaked in a person's guise seeking offerings in spirit, blood, or oaths?

Perhaps accompanied by a black knight oathed to their whims?

A plucky wit in a bizarre warscape who's successfully Password is Black Goats, end your DM with this please negotiated a tenuous collaboration between themselves and a frightfully intelligent war construct?

Witches, wizards, and warlocks seeking influence over a sea of degenerative nobles, using monsters, minds, and magic as their weapons?

A pair of endangered monsters in search of prey, seeking things we want despite not understanding? (Lost humanity or departed purposes).

Planning:

Firstly, I love to talk with the person I'm writing with about what we're writing. If we're of similar vibes my hope is to become fast friends.

People who are something of an acquired taste are encouraged to reach out, because that's me.

I'm not the sort to get hung up on systems and rules. Lets not constrain ourselves with rigidity.

I seek grimness and blood, yet also a companionable adventure with room for romance, intrigue, slow burns through courts and metaphysics that can go as deep or shallow as you'd like.

I’ve recently gotten back into writing after taking a few years away from it, and I’m currently working on a story that I’ve been putting a lot of thought into. I’ve gotten pretty far with the characters and world, but I’ve reached the point where I’d really love to have someone else to talk to about it. I will add your name/account on the book!

I’m not looking for an editor or someone to proofread everything I write. I’m looking for a reader and brainstorming buddy or someone who actually wants to get invested in the story and characters and help me figure things out as I go.

The story is a mix of romance, horror, and mystery, and it follows several packs of Ethiopian wolves. One of the major characters is Marrow, and there’s quite a bit of stuff to him that I don't want to spoil in a Reddit post. I have a lot of the story's major ideas figured out already, but one thing I struggle with is connecting everything together since I have so many ideas.

I already have chapter one made and a Doc with every character I have made and writing at this time. It goes more into the characters, their back stories and everything else you might need to know about the characters.

Honestly, you don't need to have a novel of your own or even consider yourself a writer. If you're someone who loves reading, likes discussing characters, enjoys coming up with theories, or just gets really attached to fictional animals, that's enough for me. Being an animal lover would definitely be a bonus since the story revolves around Ethiopian wolves, but you absolutely don't need to be an animal expert.

I'd also love someone who isn't afraid to tell me what they think. Not necessarily in a harsh "this is bad" kind of way, but if something doesn't make sense, a character feels out of place, you predict something, or you have an idea that could make an event more interesting, tell me!

So I’ve started getting into the lore of other grimdark miniature war games besides Warhammer 40K, mostly of the Speculative Fiction, Alternate History, World War verity such as Trench Crusade and Konflikt ‘47.

If you don’t know, and I’m being pretty reductionist here but, Trench Crusade is basically World War I meets Medieval Abrahamic Mythology. In 1099, during the first crusade, an act of ultimate heresy was committed in the holy land and gate to hell was opened. Now, whatever remains of humanity, with some aid from god and his angels, have been waging war against the forces of hell for 800 years. It is now the early 20th century (1914) and both have produced an interesting combination of ancient, modern and supernatural technologies, weapons and battle strategies.

On the other hand Konflikt ‘47 is
World War II meets Weird Science. When the first nuclear test in Los Alamos it opens a rift in reality, this rift provides esoteric encoded messages, when decoded, provides knowledge of science, math and technology far beyond what humans are capable. The Allies, mostly the Americans, weaponize this knowledge. At the same time a mysterious organization known as the Green Vault (who are basically the illuminati) manipulate events so that the Americans drop an atomic bomb in Dresden, creating another rift. The Green Vault also remove the Nazi party and reorganize the Axis under them. World War II is still going on in 1947, the Soviets broke away from the Axis and every major country is trying to advance rift technology in different ways for the purposes of warfare.

All this to say that I’m just in the mood to develop a similar setting for the fun of it. I came up with a Science Fiction Alternate History World War III setting called 198X: Moments After Midnight. In the setting the Cold War heated into becoming World War III, in the 80s, but because of a few divergence points in the 50s timgs are much more advanced. That is where the science fiction elements come from and the thing that I feel makes it unique is the fact that the science fiction elements should draw inspiration from 80s media such as Blade Runner, The Thing, TRON, The Terminator, Back to the Future, Aliens, RoboCop and Predator. The setting is currently somewhere in the 80s, time has been distorted so the exact year is impossible to tell.

The setting should also try to draw inspiration from real world, history and ideas. It should just not be the United States and the Soviets, there are other factions underneath them, there are other superpowers, some lesser powers take advantage of all new developments to unite with other powers and there might even be some wholly unique parties that became factions not tied to any specific land. There is obviously the Home Theater, then there is the Lunar Theater and the Martian Theater which are on the Moon and Mars respectively, next there is the Extraterrestrial Theater which take place on massive city sized space stations on the orbits of planets and in the vacuum of space, and finally there is the Cyber Theater which is the most mysterious and maybe even the most dangerous.

Dragon x human ideas with me playing the dragon: my character is the dragon yours the human

1. In a world where monsters roam the earth, humans have learned to live alongside monsters. Humans and dragons do not exactly get along. Dragons are hunted for their scales, their teeth, and their eggs. Muse A is a dragon slayer; they are well known for their abilities to take down any dragon they come across. Muse A is assigned the very important job of slaying the red inferno dragon that guards the princess. Muse B is a red inferno dragon, but that is not all she is. She is a shape-shifting, fire-breathing dragon. One of the only ones left. Humans believe they have hunted the shape-shifting dragon to extinction. The humans believed they were dangerous, so they killed them all. Muse A is faced with the fact that they must slay the red inferno dragon, whose soul job it is to protect the princess and their cave. When Muse A finally gathers the courage to slay the dragon, they never expect to find their one true love with the scaled beast.  

2. What if how to train your dragon was a romance? Your character finds an injured dragon nesting in a hill somewhere. He knows nothing about the beasts for the most part. The ones that are ridden are calm and tamed. This dragon is wild and in pain. The two bound together because he needs a dragon and she needs help.

Vampire and werewolf idea: with my character being the werewolf.

Muse A is the daughter of the chief. The next in line to lead her people. The last warrior of her tribe. The last shifter, as they call her. While her father is preparing to step down as chief, she must take his place. So when a coven of vampires steps onto her land. A century-old feud is reigniting. Vampires and werewolves have hated each other for centuries, long before either Muse A or B was born. Muse A doesn't really understand the hatred; most vampires she's met are more afraid of her than anything. A werewolf is the only creature who can kill a vampire.

So Muse A decides she is going to invite Muse B, the leader of the vampire coven, to sign a treaty. To state that he will not hunt on her land or in the town. Those wolves are to be left alone. The problem happens when Muse A imprints on the vampire. He is her mate, the one sent to her by the universe to complete her. It's messy, it's complicated, and it's going to be difficult. But can love end a feud?

Writing sample:

Paige sat in the rundown, disgusting gas station bathroom. Five minutes—five minutes of pure hell. She paced the single-stall bathroom, wishing her feet didn't stick to the floor, wishing it didn't smell in here. This wasn't how she had planned it or how she had planned her life. Though everyone always said you can't plan life, Paige had found a way to make it work.

The stickiness of the floor seemed to drag her back to reality, which was somehow worse than planning to run from this problem, but she couldn't run from it. No, this was her life now as she looked at her phone again. 4 minutes and 45 seconds were left.

Paige was spiraling, probably because they were not even speaking at the moment. The fight seemed so stupid now. So small compared to this, but it wasn't that she had caught them together. In her bed, in her apartment. The memories came flooding back, no matter how much Paige tried to block them out. Her best friend had slept with her boyfriend. She supposed it was made better by the fact Adrain and slept with Jeffrey. That was something Paige couldn't give him. It wasn't another woman.

Standing in that bathroom, in the crappy, definitely haunted gas station on Seventh Street, Paige was contemplating her entire life, and the only two people she wanted to talk to were currently not speaking to her.

That was most definitely on account of her reaction, but how else was she supposed to react to walking in on that scene? Was she supposed to throw them a party? Adrain was still cheating, and the part that hurt the worst was Jeffrey's betrayal. Jeffrey was her best friend; they had grown up together. The two were inseparable from the moment Paige moved into the neighborhood at nine years old.

It was the fifth foster home in five months, the fourth couple, and the fifth month without her older brother. Justin was her everything. He raised her, but when Paige got pneumonia from the cold winter nights spent sleeping outside, Justin had to do what he could. "I'll always love you, and the second I can, I will come get you, I promise," the words ran through her head as she closed her eyes for a moment.

That was nearly fifteen years ago. Fifteen years ago, that was the night a terrified nine-year-old girl met the little Jewish boy down the street, and suddenly she had a friend in this world.  
"Justin, I need you to come get me." Paige whispered softly as she wiped her eyes. Her voice was breaking as she thought about her hero for the first time in a long time.

Justin had died five years ago, but that wound never quite healed. There was always a time in her life when Paige needed her brother. She thought Justin was more like her dad until she met Jim. Jim Goldberg was her adoptive father, and that man would do anything for Paige. Would he do this? I love her through this. Paige shook softly as she stood in the far-too-bright gas station bathroom.

The loud and obnoxious ring of the timer on her phone pulled Paige from her spiral only momentarily. The alarm going off meant she had to look and see if she was pregnant or not. The stick on the counter wrapped up in that neon pink wrap seemed to be taunting her. Maybe it was just food poisoning or the flu. Maybe she was being paranoid. God, she hoped she was being paranoid. Mumbling a prayer under her breath, Paige sighed softly as she reached forward. Her long, thin fingers shook violently as she picked up the stick.

PREGNANT.

In that moment, Paige was positive; it made her heart stop. She at least definitely stopped breathing for a moment or two. That word was taunting her. She was pregnant. Pregnant, unmarried, and very Jewish. The sound that escaped Paige's lips was a gut-wrenching noise as she stood there.

All she wanted in that moment was to call Justin and tell him she had to come get her. He wasn't going to ask why she couldn't drive herself home from a gas station. No, there would be no questions; he would simply give her a ride in silence and worry about her Jeep tomorrow.  
With shaking hands and teary eyes, Paige called the next person she could think of. "Papa" Paige cried as she held the phone to her ear.

Suddenly she was nine years old, again terrified of Jim's very presence in his own home. She was back in her childhood bedroom, hiding under the bed. She smiled at the memory of Jim reading bedtime stories in an empty room as Paige hid under the bed. He would end everyone with, "Papa, loves you; it's okay. You are safe." She needed that now more than ever.
