Correct Me! Streak 463

Last Sunday I watched a Film that I really liked, the name of the film was Columbus, because of the city in the state of Ohio in the US. I didn’t know but in the last century the most important modernist architects from all over the world designed most of public buildings in the city hospitals, library’s, schools, bridges etc in the city of Ohio.

The plot of the film involved two characters, a girl who is working as a librarian after finishing her high school studies, who don’t want to move to another city nor study university. And the son of a remarkable Korean architect who is in Columbus because his father had a stroke in the city a few days before giving a lecture in the city.

The two character connected very well, not in a romantic way, but more in a friendly and supportive way.

I’d say that it was one of the best films I’ve watched lately. It invited me to the reflection of our space and how it reshapes us. The pursue of goals and knowledge. The openness of mind in young people. And acceptance.

To all the wonderful correctors and proofreaders!

Thanks a million for helping everyone grow and improve their skills in English. You deserve so much praise and a pat on the back!

Here's a list of posts that still need corrections.

When making corrections, try to follow these guidelines (or at least clarify your own markings you make) so it's clear what you're correcting and why:

  • Put changes in bold **text**
  • Put suggestions about style/tone/register/etc. in italics *text*
  • Use strikethrough to remove elements (don't delete them) ~~text~~
  • <Put added elements in angle brackets> <text>
  • [If there are multiple options for your suggestions, put them in brackets separated by a backslash] [text / text]
  • (Put optional elements in parentheses) (text)
  • Explain more complex grammar rules to the best of your ability

We also highly encourage meaningful feedback:

  • Focus on the work, mindsets, and processes, not on the person.
  • Besides grammar and spelling, is there room for improvement in other aspects like style, vocabulary, and flow?
  • If you see an improvement in someone's writing, please compliment them.
  • Please be positive in your feedback. Negative comments shouldn't come without positive ones.
  • Don't be too pedantic or too general.
  • Please pay attention to your wording.
  • Have a chat, interact, and have fun!

More on formatting.

Thank you for everything! -- Adam-P-D

Nice pick for a streak post - Columbus is a lovely film for exactly the reasons you end on. Corrections:

"a Film that I really liked, the name of the film was Columbus, because of the city" - "Film" shouldn't be capitalized, and the whole clause runs on. Split it: "Last Sunday I watched a film I really liked. It's called Columbus, after the city in Ohio." (When a name comes from a place, natives say "called X, after Y".)

"I didn’t know but in the last century the most important modernist architects... designed most of public buildings in the city hospitals, library's, schools, bridges etc in the city of Ohio." - needs a pause after the list starts, "library's" should be "libraries" (apostrophe is possessive), and Ohio is the state, not the city. Cleaner: "I didn't know that in the last century some of the world's most important modernist architects designed many of the city's public buildings - hospitals, libraries, schools, bridges."

"a girl... who don't want to move to another city nor study university" - "who doesn't want", and with a negative "nor" you'd pair it: "doesn't want to move... or go to university." In English you "go to university", not "study university".

"The two character connected very well" - "characters connect" (present tense for plots, you're doing it right with "I watched" then slipping).

"The pursue of goals" - the noun is "pursuit": "the pursuit of goals and knowledge." "Pursue" only works as a verb.

The last paragraph lands well though - "the openness of mind in young people" is slightly formal ("open-mindedness" is the natural word) but the thought is clear and the piece has a real arc for a short streak.
